Recently got into reading again and want to ask for suggestions!

I've just finished The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena after it being recommended by a friend.

Needless to say I was so disappointed with the ending Sad

TIA

Outlander - Diana Gabaldon

I really enjoy the TV show too. even though they don't stick to the book

There are currently 8 books in the series, so plenty to read.

The early Jeffrey Deaver's are good thrillers always have a twist you're not expecting.

TheOrangeOwl · 03/02/2019 18:21

The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield. Very twist-and-turn-y and written beautifully.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 03/02/2019 18:22

Shogun, by James Clavell. Epic.

sproutsandparsnips · 03/02/2019 18:22

An officer and a spy by Robert Harris
The Kite Runner Khalid Hoseini
The Casual Vacancy JK Rowling
All contenders for me.

Ooh yes and Noble House (iirc) James Cleveland

PRoseLegend · 03/02/2019 18:23

Robin Hobb's Elderlings series.
I love her world building and the way she develops characters. Her characters are all believable and flawed and beautifully written (even the really bad guys).
I loved The Liveship Traders set best, but to really appreciate the world she's building you need to read the Assassin's Apprentice set first.
Genre is fantasy, but it's more like interpersonal drama and political intrigue with dragons and magic.
Similar to Game of Thrones, but much better, less obnoxiously violent, and better written.

Clavell stupid autocorrect

yearinyearout · 03/02/2019 18:24

A thousand splendid suns by Khaled Hosseini. Totally absorbing and I just couldn’t put it down. Then I felt so sad it was over and wished I’d taken more time over it so I’m thinking I might read it again!

Biancadelriosback · 03/02/2019 18:24

No Time For Goodbye - Lynwood Barclay

AnaVanda · 03/02/2019 18:26

The Stand by Stephen King

IceIceCoffee · 03/02/2019 18:28

Patricia Cornwells Scarpetta series first got me into crime fiction , it does have its flaws in places but I still love it.

LMBad · 03/02/2019 18:29

The Shadow of the Wind, The Lovely Bones, The Book Theif.

Seniorcitizen1 · 03/02/2019 18:29

The old testament - full of cracking good yarns, some excellent songs/poems. Will keep you going for ages

HouseyMcHouseFace · 03/02/2019 18:30

100 Years of Solitude. I’ve read it so many times and each time it seems different.

alibongo5 · 03/02/2019 18:39

Fatherland by Robert Harris - really good thriller set in an alternative Europe where Hitler won the war
The Once and Future King by T H White - beautiful Arthur legends
Testament of Youth by Vera Brittain - heartbreaking true story of coming to age as the First World War breaks out
Behind the Scenes of the Museum - Kate Atkinson - absorbing tale of family, couldn't put it down
Love the Robert Galbraith (JK Rowling) detective books
The Girl with the dragon Tattoo

  1. Pillars of the earth, world without end and column of fire. Amazing books!!
  1. Game of thrones series.
  1. Bernard cornwalls Saxon books
  1. Robin hobb, the whole series from assassins apprentice to assassins fate. Including the live ship books and the rain wild chronicles. You have to read them all as they're so cleverly interlinked.
DontFundHate · 03/02/2019 18:42

@Gudgyx have you read the Tom Douglas series by Rachel abbott? They're very good and on Kindle unlimited. The first one is quite slow but the rest are brilliant. You don't need to read them in order but you can as it follows Tom Douglas the detective's private life too

nauticant · 03/02/2019 18:43

Cold Comfort Farm.
