Would you be offended or flattered if a man wolf whistled at you?

"I have always just given 'em a big old smile and flirted back. It's never bothered me."

"However, I also don't have a giant stick up my ass, and I try not to take things like this so seriously. Lighten up."

?

I'm just reading what you wrote.

Yabbers · 03/02/2019 19:50

It’s been a while but I used to just ask if they had a better looking mate? When I was in my early twenties I still looked much younger (mainly because I’m a short arse) and really enjoyed their faces when I told them I was only 14.

It neither offends or flatters me, but I do wonder why they feel the need.

A very young man leaned out and asked very politely if I needed my bush trimming
This would make me laugh too.

SparkiePolastri · 03/02/2019 19:50

If not wanting to flirt with ugly, beer-bloated, priapic buttheads means I have a 'stick up my arse' then bring it.

Seriously. In my younger days, I'd be more than happy to flirt with men not at the bottom of the barrel.

If you're happy with the bottom of the barrel MissLanes, then knock yourself out.

And do try not to get deleted. WinkWink

gordan · 03/02/2019 19:51

Lol he said that to your hubby😂

NannyRed · 03/02/2019 19:53

I’m 55 and overweight, men stopped wolf whistling a long time ago. I didn’t think any men still dared wolf whistle in the 21st century. Id not be offended. If anything, I’d smile at hearing such a relic from a bygone era.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 03/02/2019 19:55

I‘d think the man involved was an immmature idiot.

Which would also be my assessment of any woman daft enough to think it is flattering.

MrsLow10 · 03/02/2019 19:57

I need some advice. DH has a son with another woman, this woman is threatening me and my kids, (we have 2 together) and telling me she's still in love with him. AIBU to ask him to cut all ties with her, and go through court to see his son? As she says he can't see him without her there. There is no supervision issues, she just thinks if she forces him to see her then he will go back to her.

cheval · 03/02/2019 19:58

Used to hate it when young and got uncomfortable. Now it doesn’t happen any more cos I’m old, I’d probably go and follow them for more! You think I’m pretty! Do it again! Which would freak them out more than they ever freaked out my young self!

JustOneShadeOfGrey · 03/02/2019 19:58

My BFF once told me that an uncle of mine (by marriage) did this to her out of his van window. He was mortified when she turned and he recognised her. Never did understand what my beautiful aunt (I look like her 😂!!) saw in that twat.

MrsLow10 · 03/02/2019 19:58

Sorry put this in the wrong place 🤦‍♀️

NothingOnTellyAgain · 03/02/2019 19:59

MrsLove you need to start a new thread. There's a button at the top somewhere.

Im not sure AIBU is the best topic for your query, maybe try relationships .

NothingOnTellyAgain · 03/02/2019 20:00

xposts mrslow!

Eightmagpies · 03/02/2019 20:03

It makes me cross. It's done to belittle and intimidate women.

When I was about 20, I once retorted that I was 15 and that the heckler (a building site bloke) was a pervert. His mates started heckling him as a result. Hope he thought twice the next time.

Singsomethingsimple · 03/02/2019 20:17

I used to dread the first warm day of the year when I could guarantee that groups of men in vans would shout stuff out of their window whilst driving past as I walked along the pavement. The years when I wore school uniform were the worst. I don't miss it in my 40's. It was aggressive and nasty.

DeniseRoyal · 03/02/2019 20:17

I would honestly assume they were taking the piss, otherwise i wouldn't care.

morningconstitutional2017 · 03/02/2019 20:18

I wouldn't use the word 'offended' but I would be pissed off about it. We had to put up with this sort of crap in the 70's - I didn't like it then and I don't like it now.
I think it's about time men grew up instead of behaving like sex-starved teenagers. If they realised how tiresome many of us find it they'd soon stop. Or would they?

Magenta46 · 03/02/2019 20:35

I'd be flattered. It's an old fashioned thing, yet not at all creepy. Met plenty of suave sophisticated creepy blokes.

emilybrontescorsett · 03/02/2019 20:44

I don't like anyone who whistles at me, I am not a dog.

Airbiscuits · 03/02/2019 20:47

I'd be somewhat amazed at my age, being 46 and all.

When I was young and women said it stopped when they got older, I daftly assumed it was because older women were insufficiently attractive to merit attention.

I'm pretty sure it's not that. It's because the men who do it know older women are not going to be intimidated as easily.

Vivianebrezilletbrooks · 03/02/2019 21:03

I have no issue with it and I like it and have even said "Thank you!" on the odd occasion. I don't have validation or self esteem issues. If it's something obscene it's different. Yes I'd find that too much but i wouldn't call it violation! If it's just a whistle it's nothing. This is the other side of the 'metoo' campaign, feminism and snowflakes. I think any woman so offended and can't just ignore just a whistle has issues or is a feminist. For the record I'm not a feminist.
I know I'll get flamed for saying this but whatever.
Hmm

FitMum87 · 03/02/2019 21:19

I wouldn't be offended but wouldn't respect that person either.
Loads of men in vans used to wolf whistle at us when we were at school which we found hilarious at the time. Looking back it's just sick. I was 13!

AssassinatedBeauty · 03/02/2019 21:24

I'd be irritated and annoyed, and wonder why some random man thinks he's entitled to treat me like an object for his approval. If he was working for a reputable company at the time (on a building site or driving a worker's vehicle for example) I'd try to take details and contact the company to point out the bad impression their worker was giving.

MostlyBoastly · 03/02/2019 21:26

Vivian Wait, you’re not a feminist?

ShortandSweet96 · 03/02/2019 21:32

It makes every part of my skin and my hole body tenses up like I'm trying to fold into myself and disappear.

Although I have found flipping the finger at them and making a remark about how little a package they have quite satisfying when their smug smirk is swiftly wiped from their face. It's almost like they don't expect you to speak up against them?

Dita73 · 03/02/2019 21:45

I’d probably feel sorry for the bloke and think he must be desperate!
