To hate Family Guy?

Dh is watching family guy and I hate the programme. It’s often sick and crosses that time in what I find funny, but this episode in particular is the one where the baby is pregnant by the dog! The dog hits the baby in the stomach when he’s told.

Just had a row with dh as I told him to turn it off, he was laughing at the ‘jokes’ and I don’t know I just find it all so distasteful.

Waiting to be told I’m a prude and need to get a sense of humour as I’m sure I will do.

I hate it with a passion and cannot understand why it's so popular. Or used to be.

BertieBotts · 01/02/2019 19:12

I don't like it either, I have often felt similarly. It has occasional funny moments but a lot goes too far.

BananasAreTheSourceOfEvil · 01/02/2019 19:13

Cannot stand it. I think its crass, crude and not funny at all.

MuddyMoose · 01/02/2019 19:14

I hate it. Find it very distasteful. DH watches it very occasionally but I wouldn't argue with him over it. Just busy !myself doing something else.

Brandnewshit · 01/02/2019 19:15

I've never found it funny. And I'm a huge Southpark fan. So it's not like I get all offended.
It's just not funny.
Give me bobs burgers anyway over family guy

Highonthehill · 01/02/2019 19:16

Think it's hilarious. Yeah there are some oooooo moments but alot of it is funny because it gets close to that like and in real life you couldn't justify laughing at a joke like that.

Also it's American... American humour is different to uk.

Do you like Simpson's or American dad?

halfwitpicker · 01/02/2019 19:16

Not unreasonable at all

Ribbonsonabox · 01/02/2019 19:16

YABU! I dont have a serious argument for why it's funny though.... well I do... but I think it would render it unfunny... and also humour is pretty personal... no amount of explanation is going to make it funny for you if it's just not up your street!

My husband also says he dislikes it... but I've caught him laughing hysterically at it before!!

SisterOfDonFrancisco · 01/02/2019 19:17

It's easy watching mindless humour. I like it.

Bigonesmallone3 · 01/02/2019 19:17

I don't mind a bit of family guy..

Governoress86 · 01/02/2019 19:19

Me and my partner find it hilarious, we also love American dad and the Simpsons .

badreams · 01/02/2019 19:19

YABU

family guy is awesome

StreetwiseHercules · 01/02/2019 19:20

I like it, always have but even with that sense of humour it crosses the line from time to time and I wince.

Seth McFarlane is pretty talented though. His space dramedy, “The Orville” is excellent.

DoneLikeAKipper · 01/02/2019 19:20

If it’s not to your taste, fair enough, but I doubt you were being forced to sit and watch it. Why not do something else?

Family Guy is of the same generation as South Park, it seems crass on the surface but often has deeper social commentary underneath. Seth MacFarlane called out Kein Spacey’s well known (in the industry) behaviour on his show years before it all ‘came out’, for example. It may have gone down hill in the last few years, but just because you don’t enjoy something, doesn’t mean you’re either right or have the right to dictate others enjoyment of it (or I would have long banned The Big Bang Theory from my house for being utter drivel).

KlutzyDraconequus · 01/02/2019 19:22

You're entitled to your opinion, but so is your OH.

You can't really police what your OH likes or doesn't. If he tried that on you, he'd be called abusive.

newnameforthis7 · 01/02/2019 19:22

I dislike it too.

Yet I love Seth McFarlane. The 'Ted' films are amazing, and so it his new TV series 'The Orville' - a very good Star Trek spoof.

Family guy is not great IMO. I have seen a few decent episodes, but not many.

WaterOffaDucksCrack · 01/02/2019 19:22

Yabu I love it! But I like humour that crosses the line. They joke about everything and everyone.

Animations can get away with a lot more than programs with real people.

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 01/02/2019 19:23

I know some of the Simpson’s humour is close to the wire but in a slightly less adult theme. I wouldn’t say I enjoy simpsons but don’t hate it.

Don’t think I’ve ever watched the other one? American dad.

I would normally go and do something else or put my headphones in and carry on mumsnetting or watching something online but a bit fed up of dh hogging the tv and often watching programmes not entirely suitable for when young teens around. Although admittedly she’s usually in her bedroom playing games online or watching Harry Potter (13 in a couple of weeks) but just feel that it’s not a good programme in any way.

I love Family Guy and South Park. I like humour that crosses the line. To annoy my husband I do the Peter Griffin laugh.

newnameforthis7 · 01/02/2019 19:23

Ooops, not sure what happened there. Posted twice sorry!

newnameforthis7 · 01/02/2019 19:24

Didn't think much of South Park either. Hugely overrated IMO.

ABigBraclet · 01/02/2019 19:25

We are Family Guy fans but didn't get on with American Dad and lost interest after the third episode.
It makes me laugh out loud.
