To hate Family Guy?

Dh is watching family guy and I hate the programme. It’s often sick and crosses that time in what I find funny, but this episode in particular is the one where the baby is pregnant by the dog! The dog hits the baby in the stomach when he’s told.

Just had a row with dh as I told him to turn it off, he was laughing at the ‘jokes’ and I don’t know I just find it all so distasteful.

Waiting to be told I’m a prude and need to get a sense of humour as I’m sure I will do.

O.H & I love family guy! UABVVVU!

It's not to you're taste, fair enough, but clearly your dh likes it, so if he's watching it, leave the room? If you were watching tv & you dh told you to turn over, everyone would be calling him abusive for trying to police what you watch!

WaterOffaDucksCrack · 01/02/2019 19:25

I love things like American dad, South pak, Archer etc though.

lotusbell · 01/02/2019 19:26

I've not watched enough of it to comment really but thanks for the heads up as my 12 year old wants to watch it. My favourite comedy of all time is Bottom, so very puerile, sorry!

Patroclus · 01/02/2019 19:26

I agree with you. If Seth whatshisface( the writer) wasnt undeniably good at jokes hed be treated as a nasty piece of work.

Patroclus · 01/02/2019 19:29

You cant cmpare it to the Simpsons. It may be complete crap now but it was glorious in the 90s, so clever, could be watched by any age and Moe is still my hero.

BrilliantDarling · 01/02/2019 19:30

YANBU for not liking it, you are entitled to your opinion.
YABVU for telling your DH to turn it off and causing a row with him because he wanted to watch it!

IamFrauBlucher · 01/02/2019 19:31

I love it. They aren't afraid to tackle any subject and make fun of it, and as a fan of black humour it really resonates with me.

The writers knowledge of pop culture is incredible too, which is something I really appreciate.

ShatnersBassoon · 01/02/2019 19:32

I think it's often very funny. It's very near the knuckle a lot of the time but usually in a calculated and knowing way, with lots of clever satire mixed in with the puerile comedy (which I also enjoy a lot). Peter Griffin singing is a wonderful thing.

BartonHollow · 01/02/2019 19:32

Another voice saying that is overrated, terminally unfunny and has distasteful jokes.

The creator was also extremely distasteful when he hosted the Oscars YANBU OP

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 01/02/2019 19:33

Some above asked me if I liked Simpson’s?

I’m not usually one to tell dh to turn the tv over/off but I am a bit fed up of his endless tv hogging. He’s home from work early most days usually before me. He’s gone around 2pm and so the dc never seem to have been able to watch their own programmes downstairs. I have fond memories of coming home from school watching blue Peter, neighbours etc but mine come home to dad already lying on the sofa watching his programmes.

Ok. Stop over thinking it. I maybe am just having a bad day. At this rate I’ll be divorcing him if I think about it too much and why it annoyed me so much today of all days.

You can dislike whatever you like OP, but you are being very unreasonable to make your DH turn it off. Just go into another room??

IamFrauBlucher · 01/02/2019 19:34

Maybe you married Peter Griffin, OP?

Shock
UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 01/02/2019 19:35

And also it is gross! Another episode that stands out is the dog having a blind girlfriend?

The son having a doll for a girlfriend? Lots more I’m sure but as I say I usually leave the room or put y headphones in.

I love all Seth McFarlanes work including the Oscars 😂

YANBU to not like it, it’s personal choice- I hate football when DH watches it BUT I just watch something else, I don’t argue why I don’t understand the fascination of grown men trying to kick a ball into a net 🤷‍♀️😂

BirthdayKake · 01/02/2019 19:36

I like it. The episode with the fire engine documentary is hilarious

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 01/02/2019 19:36

I would definitely divorce him Frau.

Also I don’t really have another room to go to. Unless I bugger off to the kitchen and iron or cook like a good wife!

Some of it is distasteful but still funny, not so much now actually as think it’s run it’s course .
If family guy offends you DO NOT watch Rick and Morty

Greensleeves · 01/02/2019 19:36

I love it, but it's late night adult viewing imo. Totally unsuitable for kids.

Surfin' Bird episode. Cheers me up every time.

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 01/02/2019 19:37

I don’t even know what rick and morty is? I’ll make sure I avoid it though. Thanks. Smile

Patroclus · 01/02/2019 19:40

I will say actually although I dont like it personally, it shouldnt be censored. People say offensive things like that in real life, and whether I'm happy about that or not it shouldnt be that we just pretend those attitudes dont exist and shouldnt be depicted. Is a depiction of murder on screen an endorsement?

Patroclus · 01/02/2019 19:42

Rick and Morty is for the people who want to look clever after the Big Bang Theory was shot down as dumb and terrible.

greendale17 · 01/02/2019 19:42

I don’t like it. Don’t get Seth Mcfarlane either

Greensleeves · 01/02/2019 19:43

Rick and Morty is just not funny.

TrackerBar · 01/02/2019 19:45

Love Family Guy. Fave episodes are when Quagmire and Peter form a band and the one where Peter steals a parrot - Adrian Beaky.

glenthebattleostrich · 01/02/2019 19:49

I'm not keen on family guy or American dad but love Seth Mcfarlaine.

He's one of the few people in Hollywood who called out Spacey and Winestein before the Me Too movement.

And the Orville is genius
