To think this is so sad

Newborn baby found in a park last night, my heart breaks for both mother and baby.

I know I would not wanted to give birth alone (I presume mum was alone) and without pain relief and medical help.

Baby found abandoned in freezing East Ham park

Some people are going to look pretty daft if the heartless cow scenario turns out to be true

And some are going to look pretty nasty, cold and callous when the story of a really vulnerable woman with an horrific life and no hope of being able to keep the baby. Thinking that the baby would have more chance of a good life being found than living in the hell they are enduring. Or when the woman is found dead, having bled to death or dies from infection, she clearly didn't have medical help whilst giving birth.

Highly unlikely she gave birth in the park, unless she carries Sainsbury's carrier bags and a towel with her 🙄

JacquesHammer · 01/02/2019 16:32

Highly unlikely she gave birth in the park, unless she carries Sainsbury's carrier bags and a towel with her

So within 30 minutes of giving birth she was on her feet and made her way to the park. So she's pretty much going to need medical help.

Have you given birth? I have, in a warm, safe hospital surrounding by caring professionals and with my partner beside me. I still felt vulnerable in the moments straight after birth.

picklemepopcorn · 01/02/2019 16:35

No pregnant woman freely chooses to give birth without any medical help and stagger to the park within 30mins of the birth to abandon the baby.

No matter what the circumstances.

TacoLover · 01/02/2019 16:35

implies a reasonable degree of care taken

That's ridiculous. There is literally nothing reasonable about leaving a baby in a carrier bag on a bench in freezing temperatures.

I think most people's opinions about this woman would be very different if the baby had died, even though it changes nothing about the woman's actions.

Charlie97 · 01/02/2019 16:36

@thatsmyspace do you think she knew she was in labour and took towels to clean herself and wrap the baby? Do you not think if was feasible that she had been having labour pains and was trying to deal with the horror that was giving birth without medical help and she picked up a towel and a bag? It may be further towels are found where she actually gave birth? You really can't believe that anyone could be in such a desperate situation can you?

@JacquesHammer yes my lovely I've got 5 children. Which is why I sympathise with that baby so much. You wouldn't leave a dog out in the snow let alone a baby.

winsinbin · 01/02/2019 16:37

Someone asked ‘when did a little baby become so throwaway’. Since time immemorial that’s when. Desperate women (or bullying men) have been abandoning babies forever and probably always will. Moses was left in the bull rushes, Romulus and Remus were rescued by wolves and it was such a problem in Victorian times that there were hospitals and orphanages established for the care of ‘foundlings’.

People who are judging mothers who do this should remember these are the babies that are found and rescued. I am sure many more over have been hidden so well that the bodies were never recovered.

JacquesHammer · 01/02/2019 16:38

No, I would still feel desperately sorry for the poor woman and the baby.

Redglitter · 01/02/2019 16:38

Unfortunately that's not why they want to find the mother, they are seeking to prosecute

Rubbish. The immediate priority is concern about the mothers welfare. Noone makes a decision to dump a baby without there being some issue. Theyll want to check if she needs medical attention and find out what circumstances led to her decision. Since the baby is safe and well i doubt theyd prosecute her for anything

She needs help. Thats their concern just now

TacoLover · 01/02/2019 16:38

Simply not true. My mother tried to abandon me in a public place(shopping centre) after giving birth alone in her house. Because I'm female and she felt too ashamed for any of her family to know. So yeah, try again.

JacquesHammer · 01/02/2019 16:39

God it's like a Groundhog Day of stupidity

yes my lovely I've got 5 children

how did you feel 30 mins post-partum?

ILoveMaxiBondi · 01/02/2019 16:39

30 minutes! Christ! Some women haven’t even delivered the placenta 30 mjnues afee delivering the child. I’m even more convinced now that it wasn’t the mother that left the baby.

Owwlie · 01/02/2019 16:42

She could have realised she was in labour and taken those with her to the park.

I don't think it's fair to pass judgement until the truth is known. What if it is a young girl? Or someone living in domestic violence? It may have been a situation where if she had given birth at home or in a hospital or taken the baby home it may have been harmed by the father or her family. Its impossible to know, but not impossible to imagine how appalling her life may be.

thatsmyspace · 01/02/2019 16:42

@JacquesHammer why are you so desperate to defend this person that you know nothing about? Stop trying to justify other people's actions. It's embarrassing. Wait until you know facts because you might end up looking the fool.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 01/02/2019 16:42

I think most people's opinions about this woman would be very different if the baby had died, even though it changes nothing about the woman's actions.

When I was 13 the body of a newborn was found in a local park by some children. I felt exactly the same at age 13 about whoever that baby’s mother was as I feel about this- I just don’t know the circumstances enough to judge. It could have been any of the scenarios suggested on this thread.

TacoLover · 01/02/2019 16:43

No, I would still feel desperately sorry for the poor woman and the baby.

Well that's where we have different opinions. As someone who was in the same position as the baby, I don't have sympathy for a woman who caused a baby to die by leaving it in freezing temperatures(assuming it's actually the mother who left the baby obviously). If they were 'caring' enough to leave them in a towel and near a play area, then they had the brain capacity to realise that it was incredibly dangerous and could easily result in death. I think it's interesting that you accuse others of assuming the woman's situation yet you automatically call her a 'poor' woman without knowing why she did it(my mother was certainly not a victim when she abandoned me).

thatsmyspace · 01/02/2019 16:44

@Owwlie I get that. I just don't understand people justifying other people's actions when they know nothing.

MarshaBradyo · 01/02/2019 16:44

It is so sad

I also had to turn the radio news off with another awful story about a child

I can’t bear the news sometimes

Charlie97 · 01/02/2019 16:44

@thatsmyspace we're you surrounded by love and care when you gave birth five times? Or were you in a freezing cold park in January? Did you have any pain relief?

OP posts:
JacquesHammer · 01/02/2019 16:44

Wait until you know facts because you might end up looking the fool

Cutting, from the person who thinks The Sun is a reputable news source Grin

NotACleverName · 01/02/2019 16:45

One could ask you why you’re so desperate to stick the knife into and pass judgment on someone you know nothing about, @thatsmyspace

JacquesHammer · 01/02/2019 16:46

I think it's interesting that you accuse others of assuming the woman's situation yet you automatically call her a 'poor' woman without knowing why she did it

Poor woman either way to be without her baby 30 mins after birth for whatever reason.

I agree it could be that she was malicious. As I said I work on the basis of innocent until proven guilty.

Flowers I’m sorry for your experience

thatsmyspace · 01/02/2019 16:46

I haven't passed judgement once, I don't know the story unlike some on here that think they do!

ILoveMaxiBondi · 01/02/2019 16:47

There was a baby born in December to a woman in a vegetative state in a care facility in the US. This baby could be the child of a disabled woman who was/is being raped by a carer at home. We just don’t know.
