Cancelling plans because of a cold pathetic?

Had plans to go to the theatre tonight with my friend (both 31)
She texts me this morning cancelling as she is full of cold.
All day on Facebook it's been
"Poorly bad in bed ill with cold"
"Came to mums for her to look after me"
She has 3 kids too so it's not like she's not used to a few germs.
I mean I can understand the flu or sickness bug but a snotty nose? And a sore throat.

"minor" illness like a cold

You should know, that according to people on here, a cold is not a minor illness. A cold leaves you wanting to stay in bed for days, do nothing, miss work and can last for weeks. They also think that anyone with a cold must stay home and never go out for fear of spreading germs.

Normal people think a cold is minor and carry on with their life as normal.

RomanyRoots · 30/01/2019 17:30

YABU I've had colds that have floored me and others where they really hardly bothered me.
at least she's not spreading her germs around unnecessarily.

sallybeer · 30/01/2019 17:30

It's pointless me telling you the reason I think she isn't coming as I would only get arsey "drip feed" replies
I should have put it all in my initial post

If everyone stayed home every time they had a runny nose can you imagine?

Having McDonald's doesn't mean she sat in the restaurant, she could have gone through the drive-thru.

it was so bad, my eyes were streaming food and actually stinging I didn't even know that could actually happen Shock

ShadyLady53 · 30/01/2019 17:37

Yeah, me and my mother (both of us neutropenic) would never have to worry about getting pneumonia again because of some selfish twat who came to the theatre and sat beside us full of a cold Hmm.

iklboo · 30/01/2019 17:37

She's cried off going to theatre for a leisure activity, not performing life saving surgery. If she doesn't feel up to it she doesn't feel up to it.

Rachelle3211 · 30/01/2019 17:38

You minds well explain more at this point because people already think you're unreasonable.
I'm curious why you think you've been made to look like a fool? It's an interesting reaction. Can't you just go by yourself? How have you been made to look foolish because she cancelled?

planespotting · 30/01/2019 17:44

Just find a new friend. I can't stand people that complain about their friends all the time. You asked a questioned, most people said YABU
Time to move on

SoyDora · 30/01/2019 17:49

I dislke being took for a fool

Then maybe she dislikes you? Sounds like she’s had a better offer.

Foxandthehound · 30/01/2019 17:51

You should just accept her answer and move on. She didn't want to go, for whatever reason. Maybe she didn't feel comfortable telling you the real reason.

sallybeer · 30/01/2019 17:52

She made the plans ....

OP posts:
iklboo · 30/01/2019 17:56

And now she's cancelling them because she doesn't feel up to going tonight.

AnneLovesGilbert · 30/01/2019 18:01

She’s got a hot date hasn’t she?

Juniejunoji · 30/01/2019 18:03

My last cold had me in tears I felt so awful, took two days off work and I haven't had a day off for years! Was so shocked when I found out it was just a bad cold! Honestly in so much pain.

SoyDora · 30/01/2019 18:04

She may well have made the plans, but she’s obviously decided that this other thing she’s doing (which you know about but won’t tell us) is more interesting/important.

sallybeer · 30/01/2019 18:07

I bought the tickets before Christmas.
She was giving me the cash tonight ..obviously now she's not going she isn't paying me.
That's why I'm annoyed
I'm not saying she doesn't have a cold but i know it isn't the reason.
I still don't think a runny nose is a good enough reason to drop your friend in it.
So now I'm taking my aunt but I'm not going to get the money for the ticket so I've paid double.

Why are you just ignoring everyone that is telling you a cold is more than just a runny nose? I have a cold and wouldn't want to go anywhere tonight, I feel like crap

sallybeer · 30/01/2019 18:11

If she's sat in McDonald's she isn't exactly that ill she can't go out.

OP posts:
iklboo · 30/01/2019 18:14

Have you read any of the replies on here?

sallybeer · 30/01/2019 18:15

Yes ..and shock horror I also know what a cold is.
Also I know she's perfectly fine leaving the house so a mild cold isn't stopping her.

OP posts:
TheFuckfaceWhisperer · 30/01/2019 18:16

Drive-thru? Which you also ignored. Still got to eat and feed the kids, and if you don't feel up to eating should she just starve?

TheFuckfaceWhisperer · 30/01/2019 18:16

*up to cooking

Santaclarita · 30/01/2019 18:18

I've been off for 2 days because of 'just a cold'. Woke up today with such a sore throat I couldn't talk.

But no doubt my boss will be like you tomorrow and questioning why I wasn't in. Yabu.

iklboo · 30/01/2019 18:19

20 minutes in McDonalds is nothing like 2-3 hours out of the house at the theatre though, is it?
