Cancelling plans because of a cold pathetic?

sallybeer · 30/01/2019 15:26

Had plans to go to the theatre tonight with my friend (both 31)
She texts me this morning cancelling as she is full of cold.
All day on Facebook it's been
"Poorly bad in bed ill with cold"
"Came to mums for her to look after me"
She has 3 kids too so it's not like she's not used to a few germs.
I mean I can understand the flu or sickness bug but a snotty nose? And a sore throat.

I don't like being dropped in it at the last minute no.
Especially when I know she won't be cancelling her plans tomorrow.
I know the reason she cancelled tonight and it's nothing to do with a runny nose.
That's why I'm annoyed.

I wouldn’t put up with “friends” like this. She could easily take some cold and flu capsules to get through the evening, but instead she’s choosing to let you down. I’d be furious too.

NutElla5x · 30/01/2019 16:34

She does seem a bit of a drama queen/attention seeker, but better that than a unsympathetic person who slags off their poorly friend on social media.

WildfirePonie · 30/01/2019 16:35

I'm sure I read a post a few weeks ago about going to work with a cold and everyone pretty much said "it's just a cold, no reason to be off work"....

U2HasTheEdge · 30/01/2019 16:35

I have a cold now. I feel like crap. My eyes hurt, I ache and I feel really run down and tired.

Some people get awful colds. Those who can't understand why someone would cancel plans clearly only get mild colds.

You clearly don't like her.

emilybrontescorsett · 30/01/2019 16:36

The last cold I had was awful. Totally wiped me out and I'm no wimp.
To be fair I hate going anywhere like the theatre if I'm going to be coughing and blindingly nose.
The last time I had a cold I had uncontrollable coughing fits. Everyone was asking if I was ok it was so bad, my eyes were streaming food and actually stinging.
Having said that I do sympathise if she is flakey.
Hi alone and enjoy it.

onalongsabbatical · 30/01/2019 16:37

I know the reason she cancelled tonight and it's nothing to do with a runny nose. So your OP is a pile of shite then?

sallybeer · 30/01/2019 16:38

I'm not doubting she has a runny nose and a sore throat but it's not enough to make her bed bound ..perfect excuse

OP posts:
U2HasTheEdge · 30/01/2019 16:39

The flu you can't lift your head off the pillow.

Not always true by the way.

sallybeer · 30/01/2019 16:39

Apparently going to work with a cold is fine ..but dropping your friend in it 5 hours before a event is a ok...

OP posts:
bringincrazyback · 30/01/2019 16:40

YABU. If this is indicative of your usual levels of sympathy, I wouldn't be at all surprised if your friend isn't all that keen to see you regardless of whether she really has a cold or not.

chemenger · 30/01/2019 16:40

What was the point of your OP. Why come on here whining about something untrue? You don't like your "friend" obviously or she doesn't like you so the simple solution is to not be friends.

sallybeer · 30/01/2019 16:40

@U2HasTheEdge really ? Every time I've had the flu my head has been that heavy I couldn't ..
Couldn't exactly eat a Big Mac and do a Tesco shop with the flu ..you can when you've got a "minor" illness like a cold

OP posts:
sallybeer · 30/01/2019 16:41

I've got loads of sympathy for actual issues ...
Not a runny nose no.

OP posts:
sallybeer · 30/01/2019 16:42

Where exactly did I say I didn't like her?
I wouldn't be friends if I didn't like her
I don't like being took for a fool ..big difference

OP posts:
chemenger · 30/01/2019 16:42

Going to work with a cold - irritating for people who have to sit next to you but at least they are being paid.

Going to the theatre with a cold - irritating for tens if not hundreds of people who have paid to be there, not the same thing at all.

EduCated · 30/01/2019 16:44

You sound delightful.

I didn’t realise the ability to eat a Big Mac is such an important diagnostic measure.

Would you really want to be sat next to her sniffling and coughing all through the show?

sallybeer · 30/01/2019 16:47

You don't see many people who are so ill on deathbed eating a Big Mac do you?

OP posts:
paintinmyhairAgain · 30/01/2019 16:48

wildpony i seem to recall something like that - double standards or what ? op so where was she eating the mcdonalds ? home delivery or in the restaurant obviously not that poorly if she went out for it.
don't know about pearl clutching but some knickers are certainly getting in a twist on this thread.

MeadowHay · 30/01/2019 16:49

I think I've only had flu once or maybe twice in my life. I'm only mid-twenties. I remember I had swine flu as a teen, that was probably the worst, I spent a week of it just laying on the sofa feeling awful, barely being able to move. I still would have been able to eat a big mac at various points during that period of illness. Grin

sallybeer · 30/01/2019 16:49

@paintinmyhairAgain McDonald's with her kids.
After being looked after on the sofa at her mums she made a miraculous recovery to get down to the local retail park for a cheeky Big Mac

OP posts:
EduCated · 30/01/2019 16:49

She hasn’t said she’s on her deathbed Confused She’s said she doesn’t feel well enough to sit in a theatre for the evening.

sallybeer · 30/01/2019 16:50

I guess she drove tho so she didn't have to walk

OP posts:
sallybeer · 30/01/2019 16:50

Doesn't mind sitting in McDonald's tho.

lmusic87 · 30/01/2019 16:52

Why be her friend, sounds like you dislike her.
