Best and worst place you have been on holiday to?!

My best was definitely Canada. Driving through the Rockies was an unforgettable experience and we got perfect weather and lots of lovely food and hotel stops along the way.

The worst has to be Dublin. I was really underwhelmed by it and found it crazy expensive.

Best : London to Scotland road trip
Worst: will have a think!

Frosty66611 · 26/01/2019 20:12

St Lucia is getting a few negatives. Has anyone been and really enjoyed it? Found what I thought was the perfect resort for us to go to there this year and it has great reviews. Bit worried now though as don’t want to spend a lot of money on a holiday if it could be really disappointing

Dublin is underwhelming I think because of the drab impression it gives.
It's just not pretty. The buildings are dull and dirty. There are no nice vistas or pretty squares or parks. Phoenix Park is so far out of the city that most people don't go there but it's rather flat and bland anyway. St Stephens Green is small, crowded and a bit twee.

There are some great restaurants and eateries. But the Guinness Storehouse, despite the hype, is one of the worst tourist experiences I've ever done.

ModernStoneAgeFamily · 26/01/2019 20:12

I have lots of bests: Italy, Cornwall, France

One worst: Gran Canaria. It’s a barren rock with a million hotels and tiresome pushy people.

BriennetheBeauty · 26/01/2019 20:14

Best: East coast USA for the solar eclipse or Sri Lanka
Worst: 18-30 type holiday when I was about 26 and the oldest by some distance in Crete. Shame coz Crete was lovely just the resort was god awful!

alphajuliet123 · 26/01/2019 20:15

I've never had a bad holiday, but having spent a few months travelling around Thailand I thought Phuket was utter shite compared to the rest of it.

I once asked the same question of a very well travelled friend (so far he's spent 20 years on the road and been to 150 countries) and he reckoned the only two he would never go back to are Pakistan and Jamaica.

Somewhereovertheroad · 26/01/2019 20:18

Can I just say I love Dublin Smile

Worst place by a long shot was the Isle of Man but to be fair we were skint and it was expensive. We were hungry and cold.

I also hated Vancouver ...I just found it really dodgy.

Love Seattle actually pretty much most of the Pacific Northwest.

Also love Rome and Paris.

CornishYarg · 26/01/2019 20:20

Best - Seychelles
Worst - Tunisia as a teenager. The constant hassle from men was tiresome. Mum and I couldn't go anywhere outside the hotel without Dad; the one time we went in the sea without him, we were surrounded by men and one of them fondled my thigh Angry

Somewhereovertheroad · 26/01/2019 20:22

I also really love Bath!

Deadringer · 26/01/2019 20:25

I loved Bath too!

Geneswoman · 26/01/2019 20:25

Best, Butlins in UK when a kid in the '70's. As an adult, Crete, Sydney, Northumberland. Another positive vote for Dublin too. Also reading replies can't help thinking its not always the place but who you are with surely impacts your experience too?

Geneswoman · 26/01/2019 20:27

Worst, another vote for Tenerife and Venice.

Ifonlyiweretaller · 26/01/2019 20:28

Best - any road trip we've done: San Francisco to LA; Boston to Tornoto; North Coast 500 (Scotland) and around the coastline of Wales.

Worst: Dubai. Stayed as a stopover and opted for 3 nights to see what all the fuss was about. And I truly dont know what it IS all about. Grim.

Dinosforall · 26/01/2019 20:29

Best: Japan, Denmark

Worst: Morocco, Egypt

AngeloMysterioso · 26/01/2019 20:31

Best- Philippines with DH last year. Absolute heaven, I cried on our last day because I didn’t want to come home! Croatia is a close second, Dubrovnik and Brâc.

Worst- Tunisia. Went as a group of girls when I was 26, we were harassed every time we left the resort, my blonde friend had the worst of it. They are awful to women in general, and obviously-western women in particular.

alltheusernames · 26/01/2019 20:33

@Geneswoman Venice was a thumbs down for us also, it was a beautiful place but the sheer amount of tourists make the visit insufferable, we won't be going back sadly (unless they change the rules on cruise ships!)

SabineUndine · 26/01/2019 20:34

Worst: Tunisia and Malta. Tunisia dull, horrible food, grubby. Malta polluted and the guys are utter pests.

Best: the south of France, especially Cap Ferrat, Hyeres and St Remy. Venice and Rome.

KirstyAllsoppsFatterTwin · 26/01/2019 20:36

This is so interesting. The best places mentioned are very diverse but the with the worst places we are seeing the same ones mentioned over and over.

Egypt, Dublin, St Lucia, Tunisia, Morocco and most of the Canary Islands are not faring well at all.

KirstyAllsoppsFatterTwin · 26/01/2019 20:37

Or Paris.

Cozytoesandtoast00 · 26/01/2019 20:37

Clionba Thanks..
Maybe I'll give Poland a miss then!

thenightsky · 26/01/2019 20:39

Best: Tanzania. Organised for me by my best friend who lives there and runs a safari company with her husband who is a local.

Worst: Mallorca all inclusive - DS broke his leg on the 3rd day and we all got food poisoning so bad we still had green poo 2 weeks after we got home.

MissMarplesKnitting · 26/01/2019 20:40

Er, Dublin has Merrion Square and a gorgeous Georgian quarter?!! Temple Bar is rough as, mind. You have to get out of Dublin and see the rest of Ireland. It's magic.

Best place....Jamaica (Negril) or maybe the Bahamas.

Worst: Orlando. Overpriced, overcrowded, the Blackpool of the USA.

And I'm from Blackpool so…

Escapenextyear · 26/01/2019 20:41

There’s nowhere I’d say I truly hated except for maybe Magaluf many years ago on a girls holiday. Horrible hotel, horrible food , I got awful sunstroke. But saying that I knew it’d be tacky and you just go along with it.

I’ve been to Tenerife a couple of times and it’s not paradise by any stretch, and some of the resorts are very brits abroad, the beaches aren’t amazing, but surely everyone who goes , knows that ? We go for winter sun and it’s very easy.

So far my favourite holiday is probably Cavtat in Croatia.

Somewhereovertheroad · 26/01/2019 20:42

who you are with surely impacts your experience too?

I would agree with this but also how much money you spent/ had to spend. If you have ever stayed in a five star resort in Tenerife I suspect you view it differently to an apartment with noisy neighbours in Los Christanios.

cjpark · 26/01/2019 20:44

Best : Iceland or Tanzania

Worst : Orlando - Overcrowded, commercial, overdeveloped . Grim
