Best and worst place you have been on holiday to?!

My best was definitely Canada. Driving through the Rockies was an unforgettable experience and we got perfect weather and lots of lovely food and hotel stops along the way.

The worst has to be Dublin. I was really underwhelmed by it and found it crazy expensive.

Best ever was the Whitsunday Isles and worst Tangier, a total shithole.

ddodprob · 26/01/2019 18:45

I think it does depend on expectations. Worst for me were New York (though may have been as went for Christmas). Though worst ever holiday was torremelenos - what a dump!

Best holiday really Mexico (have been five times), but also had a fantastically great time in Portugal which I dint expect much of.

Some of my best holidays have been in places that I didn’t expect - though Italy will always be my favourite place

CherryBlossom23 · 26/01/2019 18:45

Dublin ALWAYS takes a hammering in these threads 🙄 most people probably didn't stray far outside of Temple Bar. There's loads of (free!) museums, exhibitions and cultural stuff to do in Dublin, don't know you can say there's "bugger all to do". Yes it is expensive, life in Ireland is expensive but not worse than London.

LoniceraJaponica · 26/01/2019 18:49

"Yorkshire - sorry, it’s cold and it rained a lot."

I think crap weather always spoils a holiday. I live in South Yorkshire, and last summer was brilliant. By the time we went abroad for our holiday I already had a suntan.

I must admit I was underwhelmed by Dublin. I didn't hate it but expected more from it.

Whatdoiwanttohear · 26/01/2019 18:49

Hated Vegas with a passion but knew I would in same way as I know I'd hate Dubai etc. That said, brilliant access to gorgeous national parks of Zion, Arches etc.

Absolutely loved Yosemite and Sequoia. On a similar theme New Zealand is totally stunning, I'm a real tree, river and mountain person though.

Love SE Asia, Bali, oh the people are wonderful. Nepalese people similarly amazing.

Peru is incredible, I like places that are quite different to home.

Loathe British seaside town type place.

TSSDNCOP · 26/01/2019 18:52

Best: Barbados
Worst: Pontins, Camber Sands

CherryBlossom23 · 26/01/2019 18:53

What exactly are people expecting from Dublin? London 2.0? Genuinely curious to know why people are so underwhelmed. It's not a huge city, it's small, compact, but absolutely full of history and culture.

Believability · 26/01/2019 18:53

Best: Thailand or Mallorca. I’m also very partial to NYC

Worst: Orlando. Found the theme parks tedious and not at all magical, hated the crowds, Orlando is horrible, food was awful even in recommended places. Kids refused to go to parls after a couple of days. Other parts of Florida are breathtaking though

Cheerymom · 26/01/2019 18:56

Best Israel and Mongolia
Worse Tenerife and Birmingham

TSSDNCOP · 26/01/2019 18:58

Dammit, Israel!! Worse than Pontins, Camber Sands.

Unihorn · 26/01/2019 18:58

@CherryBlossom23 as does Wales, usually with comments like 'it rained' or 'it was dark.'

maloofhoof · 26/01/2019 18:59

Best either New York or Margarita

Worst Lanzarote

maloofhoof · 26/01/2019 19:01

I forgot, also hated Dubai and Magaluf

ShatnersBassoon · 26/01/2019 19:02

Best: Kauai. Amazingly fancy hotel, wonderful people and food, and truly magnificent scenery.
Worst: Cornwall. So far to go to get rained on.

I'll defend Dublin. It's not spectacular, but it's a pleasant enough city away from Temple Bar.
Also Tunisia. Carthage is one of the few places I've ever been genuinely awestruck. Away from the tourist resorts and all inclusive hotels, it has plenty to offer.

nameuseroriginal · 26/01/2019 19:05

Best - Seychelles & South Africa
Worst- Tunisia

Cozytoesandtoast00 · 26/01/2019 19:08

Clionba? Really?
I'm mixed race and my husband has been trying to convince me to go to Poland with him as he's often there on business. I've heard there's a lot of racism. He says this is not the case in cities. Specially student cities like Posnan. He is white though!

thegreenlight · 26/01/2019 19:17

Skegness is a total hole but my little boy cries every now and then because we went there on a cheap holiday in the summer and he loved it so much he constantly wants to go back! We are off to Florida this year in the Animal Kingdom lodge, have paid a fortune and I’m terrified that it won’t measure up to Skegness in his 5 year old eyes! What makes a good holiday is very independent on the individual!

jacksonmaine · 26/01/2019 19:20

Edinburgh is dull, grey and filthy, puke on the pavements, got told to fuck off by a disgusting drunk.

Yes I loved Edinburgh. I found it beautiful and clean apart from sick everywhere and not the watery type more like what my dog leaves behind after a hearty meal. I can't help thinking there is a problem with alcoholism there.

Charmatt · 26/01/2019 19:22

Best: The Outer Hebrides
Worst: Disneyland Paris

BlueSlipperSocks · 26/01/2019 19:23

Best - Carribean Cruise. Relaxing, friendly, fabulous ship, great nightly entertainment, plenty of carribean islands to explore, lovely people (adults only 😉) .....
Worst - Lanzarote. I suffered too many asthma attacks because of the smouldering volcano, and spent most of the holiday at the doctors on a nebulizer. Plus the weather was extremely windy. Too windy to spend much time outside. Sunbed and chairs kept blowing into the pool. It was also too cold to use the pool - in July! Cockroaches galore! 😱

We went for 2 weeks. Returned home shortly after the first week. Lanzarote is well and truly scrubbed off our future holiday destinations.

Clionba · 26/01/2019 19:34

cozytoes I'm white, my husband is black - on my own I thought it was ok, but it really isn't.
I felt like I'd gone back in time to the 70s and not in a good way. He said never again.

greendale17 · 26/01/2019 19:40

Best- Maldives
Worst- Lanzarote

nicoala1 · 26/01/2019 19:45

The reality is, our choices and experiences are reflective of us as individuals and our likes and dislikes.

Some might love somewhere, others might hate it.

So I will keep my favourite and worst places to myself for now.

I agree with many posts but not all. It is an individual thing.

Interesting thread thanks OP.

Rezie · 26/01/2019 19:56

Worst: Belgium. It was boring.
Best: UK roadtrip

RedDwarves · 26/01/2019 19:58

Best USA.

Worst... there isn't one. But I was massively underwhelmed by Bath in the UK. Wouldn't waste time going there again. Bland, dreary, cold feeling place.
