My best was definitely Canada. Driving through the Rockies was an unforgettable experience and we got perfect weather and lots of lovely food and hotel stops along the way.

The worst has to be Dublin. I was really underwhelmed by it and found it crazy expensive.

We usually go to Brittany every summer, it's just so scenic and beautiful.

Worst: Gran Canaria. Grim.

Lanzarote and Tenerife are supposed to be beautiful, but I'm too afraid of a repeat experience

Longdistance · 26/01/2019 20:46

Best- all our Caribbean holidays

Worst - Tunisia

Vagndidit · 26/01/2019 20:52

Best: Too many to name, but absolutely love London, Rome, Athens, Prague, Valencia, Chicago, NYC, San Diego, and most of Ireland.

Worst: Edinburgh. Grey, wet, miserable, DH was mugged on the Royal Mile in broad daylight

pinkmagic1 · 26/01/2019 20:53

Loved Marrakech and also had a fabulous time in Kos, Greece, and enjoyed Turkey too.
Despite what others are saying have had a couple of good ones in Tunisia. Away from the main touristy bits it is an interesting country. I do realise my views may be a bit skewed as we are a mixed English/Arab family so the locals tend to leave us alone.
Worst holiday was Blanes in Spain. End of season and most things were closed. Hotel was dire, like something from the 70's and the food was inedible. We did make the most of it though and had a fabulous day out in Barcelona.
Prague was meh.

AlmostGrockle · 26/01/2019 20:56

Best: St Aubin Sur Mer, France

Worst: Lloret De Mar, Spain

BeachtheButler · 26/01/2019 20:57

Best. Norway - amazing scenery, nice people, Bergen is a great city, viking ships in Oslo are amazing.

Worst. Cornwall. Some of the smaller towns are total tips and the whole place is just meh (love Devon though).

hammeringinmyhead · 26/01/2019 20:57

Best - Orlando honeymoon, Boston, Gran Canaria as a teenager, San Francisco, New York (apart from the hurricane), Belfast, Bruges, Vienna, Prague and a recent spa break in Newquay.

Worst - Greece, Madrid - so rough and threatening as a woman on your own, LA - great time but what a weird place, a week in Saundersfoot in Wales. In fact Wales full stop. Llandudno - why?!

I live 20 minutes from Bath and it's mega overrated.

Lollicent · 26/01/2019 21:01

Worst was Jamaica. Constantly being hassled to buy drugs, armed guard on the beach.
Best was the island Rodrigues. Stunningly beautiful and unspoilt.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 26/01/2019 21:01

Best: Slovenia and Kefalonia.

Can't really think of a worst...

KirstyAllsoppsFatterTwin · 26/01/2019 21:01

Everyone seems to love Kefalonia

MintyCedric · 26/01/2019 21:02

Best: Australia, Yorkshire (Bronte Country) and Vienna

Worst: Scotland.

Tequilamockinbird · 26/01/2019 21:02

Best with DC - Florida.

Best without DC - Vegas.

Worst - Morocco.

MiceSqueakCatsMeow · 26/01/2019 21:05

Best: Pompeii. Much bigger and more preserved than I was expecting. I also loved New York. The architecture, food no mud or rubbish.

Worst: Lefkas in Greece. The smell of full Grundons while eating in a restaurant outside and toilet paper bins. 🤮

Dapplegrey · 26/01/2019 21:08

Best - Barbados & Costa Rica

Worst - I didn’t really like New York. I don’t know why, the people were nice and the museums fantastic but I’ve got no desire to return.

user1479305498 · 26/01/2019 21:11

I live in Bath, I think it's a great place to live but not necessarily best place for a holiday.

Best places, Majorca (but choose carefully and stay somwhere really good) I love Palma too. Smaller Greek islands but with a bit of life, Hydra (a favourite of ours, , Paros, milos) , never had a bad holiday on them. I liked Marrakech and Istanbul, Istanbul I thought was terrific. Also really like Kraków, California and love Copenhagen and Stockholm and always enjoy New York.

Worst
Got to be Egypt, all family chronically ill the whole holiday, even at 4 star iberotel. Thought Dubai was a bit boring but I'm not a huge shopping fan or water parks etc and was 50 degrees too. Didn't like the Algarve at all and although I do like Cornish resorts like st Ives, it's only enjoyable in good weather and a real fag to get to, why not just go to somewhere like Weymouth , bridport etc and get the same feel? Dublin is perfectly ok but ludicrously expensive (more so than Copenhagen) same goes for Paris.

JayeAshe · 26/01/2019 21:14

Our experience of St Lucia was beautiful deserted beaches and lovely scenery, great snorkelling and diving. Also rum punch, daiquiris etc two for one at sunset - happy hour. On the other hand (we were s/c at Marigot Bay) in spring there was no fruit except bananas and eating out was London prices for average food.
This was 14 yrs ago and things might have changed tho everyone was after you for money, they saw you as rich even tho (as we were) on a tight budget.
Wouldn't go back to the Caribbean except to a French dependency.

KirstyAllsoppsFatterTwin · 26/01/2019 21:15

I’ve not been to Morocco or Tunisia (and I’m not likely to after this thread) but I’ve been to Turkey and Egypt. Egypt was a fucking hole, I hated it with a passion. The men were leery and revolting. Everything felt seedy, dirty and slightly threatening. Women were invisible. There just weren’t any. Confused

Turkey I have enjoyed, but I did get sick of the constant pushiness in shops and outside restaurants. They’ll practically chase you down the street, It’s incredibly intimidating.

m0therofdragons · 26/01/2019 21:16

Well I'm loving this thread. I've been slightly stressing about the amount we're spending to take our 3 dds on holiday this summer but looks like our Vancouver to Calgary through the Rockies trip will be good. We've been to Calgary before when it's been snowy so can't wait to return.

Best: Kenya (but I think it's less safe now); Lake Garda; Florida (pre dc); Loire Valley, Calgary

Worst: Paris - first time was just me and Dh and we liked it but second was with 3dc and we didn't feel safe at all.

Dublin was just a weekend in Dh and my first year together so we enjoyed ourselves but it was so wet and kids from the local school were spitting at and throwing stones at the penguins in the zoo.

m0therofdragons · 26/01/2019 21:20

Failed to mention we loved NYC and Chicago.

SpeedyBojangles · 26/01/2019 21:28

Best:
New York
Mauritius
South Africa
Dubrovnik

Worst:
Malta
Dublin

Cheerymom · 26/01/2019 21:31

Poor Dublin.

Having lived there I understand, it does not have the expectations of a city, I think its fine as a gateway to the rest of Ireland, more a big town really.

SpeedyBojangles · 26/01/2019 21:32

Tunisia has been mentioned a few times on this thread. I went when I was 15 and went to some amazing places on trips but I was constantly harassed by men of all ages.

partofthewind · 26/01/2019 21:35

Edinburgh is my bestest place, BUT..... I am one of the festival wankers and go every August.

Worst - Benidorm.

tillytrotter1 · 26/01/2019 21:35

Butlins at Ayr!
Earlier in the year we had been queuing at Manchester Airport to board our flight to the USA again. One of the girls said Wish we could go to Butlins, so later in the year we took them, .Luckily it was only for a long weekend, getting in and out was like Colditz and the food wasn't much different. At least it cured the girls of their wish to go to Butlins though!

tablelegs · 26/01/2019 21:36

@tillytrotter1 that's a haven site now. The swimming is great and plenty of options for food.
