My best was definitely Canada. Driving through the Rockies was an unforgettable experience and we got perfect weather and lots of lovely food and hotel stops along the way.

The worst has to be Dublin. I was really underwhelmed by it and found it crazy expensive.

We were in Vienna in the June when we went, and didn't find it devoid of atmosphere at all. There were some street performers and various other things going on. I also felt very safe. (This was in 1992)

jarviscockatiel · 28/01/2019 18:45

Best: Costa Rica, Borneo and maybe somewhat strangely, Syria. We went there 10 months before the war began and what a wonderful place it was. So sad to see all the places we went to so devastated.

Not really had a bad holiday but didn't really feel the love for Bucharest

GrumpyMummy123 · 28/01/2019 19:06

Best - Corfu (villa on waters edge in quiet cove!) or Crete in an apartment with the most amazing views.

Worst - Tunisia - crap hotel with crap food, constantly being hassled....

Fulltimemummy85 · 28/01/2019 21:18

Best

Camp America in Illinois. Staying in wooden lodges, seeing the wildlife, horse riding and eating proper American Food, Puppy chow, Smores by the camp fire amazing. The best bit was the parties at the weekend at the Americans houses . Definitely an amazing experience.

Florida was also amazing, we swam with Manatees, in aligator infested water 😳 Kennedy Space Center was amazing! Which suprised me as I hate space!

Valencia was beautiful, very relaxed and had a lovely atmosphere.

Also loved Berlin, Barcelona, London, St Louis and New York

Hated

Malia 18-30. At 19 I felt too old, awful.

Sri Lanka we were only staying over a night and got harrassed by sleazy men. The beach was also gross although probably just where we were staying.

Bulgaria, only place I have got food poisoning and had a dodgy excursion.

Worst of all was Cambodia, we got chased by a very scary looking man. My sister got serious food poisoning, definitely would not go back!

Fluffypot333 · 28/01/2019 21:48

Favourite Singapore ,the people ,the food and how easy it was to get around and spotlessly clean
Worst limassol in Cyprus, dirty and constant harassment at night .

Best St Lucia, Worst Calella (Costa Brava)

CherryPavlova · 28/01/2019 22:10

Truly worst a night camping in a new motorhome with two little ones when eight months pregnant. It should have been longer but we nearly divorced.
Other worst was Zakinthos when we were courting. Ghastly place was half built, flooded, closed and my husband had to give me a piggy back through rat infested flood water to get any food. Plus our silly mopeds ran out of fuel on mountainous road miles from where we were staying.

Best hard to say. Evolveback resorts on the Kabini delta and at Hampi in India. Truly amazing.

Otherwise maybe Iceland and swimming in a mountain pool with a blizzard blowing, snowmobiling on a glacier and seeing the Aurora.
Or the Lakes when the children were younger with picnics, paddling, wild swimming and reaching summits.

Slightly concerned that we have just booked a few days in Paris in the summer, after seeing some the comments on here. We went a couple of times pre DC but this will be their first time. Am now a bit worried that we won't feel very safe...Sad

Best holidays have been New Zealand, Italy and Greece (all pre DC Grin). In the UK I really like the Peak District and Northumberland. Also love Edinburgh, but perhaps because I lived there as a student.

Struggling to think of a worst place. I don't think we've ever had any disastrous holidays (perhaps it will be Paris!). Rather underwhelmed by the resorts in Tenerife and Lanzarote but I enjoyed exploring both places and they did the job in terms of a reasonably cheap week in the sun.

MrsWicket · 28/01/2019 22:20

Poor old Malta! It really is a Marmite island! We love it - off there for our 6th time this year. The Inland Sea, Gozo my absolute fave place. First went on our honeymoon 27 years ago, and fell in love with place.

Siameasy · 28/01/2019 23:06

Egypt. Was in my teens and I dressed appropriately-still got physically harassed. Got sunstroke and the food was shit. Too hot and everything seemed dirty and crumbling.
Came back a lot thinner which was a bonus

PurpleRobe · 28/01/2019 23:41

Best = St Lucia and Bermuda

Worst = Northern France

LakeIsle48 · 29/01/2019 01:41

Sing Margaret River!!! I spent time there 27 years ago. It was such a special time, place, everything. It my version of heaven on earth. Thanks for taking me back in time.

ShanghaiDiva · 29/01/2019 02:43

I love Margaret River too!

SimplySteve · 29/01/2019 04:02

Kairouan and El Djem (Tunisia), the best by miles. I'd add Poland but considering Auschwitz was the reason for going I'm uncomfortable labelling it such.

Worst would be Turkey, west coast.

KirstyAllsoppsFatterTwin · 29/01/2019 04:10

Simply you can’t say Tunisia is the best - haven’t you read the thread? 😂😱

SimplySteve · 29/01/2019 04:45

Hah. Have been many times, and love the culture. It's not somewhere to go if you want a pure beach holiday. Sadly the terrorism incidents have had a substantial impact. Remember the shooting incident a few years ago? We were staying in the next hotel at the time.

SimplySteve · 29/01/2019 04:52

Given the way the threads gone, I'd like to confirm the Tunisian president isn't paying me to promote the country. I mean what's not to like, even Star Wars has been filmed there. Fucking Star Wars!!

JenniferJareau · 29/01/2019 04:59

Best - USA
Worst - Dominican Republic. Complete shithole.

pollyglot · 29/01/2019 05:25

We LOVED Malta, and plan on going back soon. However, we are staid and middle-aged, love history, and both have family connections with the island - DH stationed there in the Navy in the '70s, my granny nursing as a VAD at the Valletta Hospital of St John during WWI. The Valletta cityscape is pure poetry from Silema Creek, Mdina is amazing, Gozo and the Neolithic temples are just fantastic. The food is a bit dull, the atmosphere very "British" - lunch at the Silema Wanderers club, anyone? Public transport was cheap and easy to use, so a car is not essential. The Maltese were friendly and polite. What's not to like?

Donna1001 · 29/01/2019 06:04

Best : WDW in Florida, Cuba, every time I’ve been to anywhere in Italy

Worst : Newquay, Gran Canaria

Donna1001 · 29/01/2019 06:06

Another couple of ‘worsts’- Dominican Republic & Cancun.

Donna1001 · 29/01/2019 06:18

I’m going to Vienna in the summer, after reading some comments I’m a little concerned.
However, I’ve already been doing lots of reasearch about where to go so hopefully it’ll be good.

Surprised to read a PP found the Lake Distrct a shithole when it is so beatiful & Disneyland Paris crap! We’re going for our 4th at Easter.

We have done Florida as well, which of course is better, just Paris is closer & so works out a bit cheaper. Just ‘crap’ is never a word I’d use to describe it.

It’s be boring if we all liked the same things though.

Ivegotthree · 29/01/2019 06:19

Malta always gets a hammering in these posts. I have a friend who lives there and her social media posts make it look pretty shit.

Best: Sydney, south west France, Italy, north Norfolk

Worst: Rhodes when I was 18. Awful.

Ivegotthree · 29/01/2019 06:25

I lived in Edinburgh for six months and absolutely hated it.

Bleak, grey architecture, constant rain, very anti English locals even though I was quite shy in those days and very polite.

Couldn't wait to escape.

Chicago was another great place. Such energy and such inspiring architecture, as well as food.

cricketmum84 · 29/01/2019 06:30

Best - Aruba. Just beautiful and the people were so happy!

Worst - Turkey. Terrible beach, muddy sand and pebbles. Hospital dash 17 hours after we arrived and I got groped and kissed by an old man cleaning the toilets (reported it to hotel who sacked him).
