Just for fun, what’s the weirdest thing which has scared your pet for no apparent reason. Tonight I learnt while walking my puppy a shadow is scary! After reassurance he’s ok, no counselling needed but wondered what others have experienced with their amazingly eccentric pets?

Suziepoozie my dog does the same with sneezes, not just mine but anyone that sneezes in her presence 😂

My cat hates the postman, she seems deeply offended that he keeps shoving, what I assume she thinks is his stuff, through our door.

Villanellesproudmum · 24/01/2019 07:50

Flappy things in the wind, carrier bags, builders tarpaulin, etc. She was walking with such concentration yesterday. Head down, when we approached a lamp post she looked up and made herself jump. I swear she apologised to the lamp post in a very British way.

Yogurt pots!! Once when she was licking one I made her nose go right in!!

littlemeitslyn · 24/01/2019 07:52

Really??!!!

Knittink · 24/01/2019 07:53

My dog is scared of cardboard boxes. Hmm

boringlyboring · 24/01/2019 07:55

One of my cats is scared of the tape measure. As soon as he hears it pulled slightly, even if he’s not close by, he runs up the stairs and peaks through the bannister.

My other cat is scared of pretty much everything except me, dp and food. If she hears the letter box go she’s straight upstairs under my bed.

One of my cats hates change of any kind I think she has kitty PTSD since being badly bitten and shaken by a dog
She was always anxious but since the attack is much worse
Xmas tree goes up she freaks out - then gets used to it so freaks out when tree gets taken down
I took sitting room curtains down to wash a few days ago - she ran into room saw what I’d done - let out a howl, ran round the room at breakneck speed a few times then disappeared out the cat flap
She wouldn’t go back in the room until the curtains were back up

I think one of my dogs has OCD. He doesn't like anything where it shouldn't be.

When they put a new poo bin on the field, he stalked it and barked at it every day for about a week or so before he got used to it being there.

We sometimes bump into a man who the dog likes as he makes a fuss of him. One day the man had one of those grey NHS walking sticks as he'd had an accident. My dog was barking at him and wouldn't have anything to with him. I said it was the stick. The man hid the stick behind his back and my dog said hello to him, then when he got the stick back out to walk on, my dog barked at him again.

Unicornsbumhole · 24/01/2019 08:16

I had a pony that was pretty bombproof not being fazed by anything except yellow manhole covers, he would snort and dance around them like it was about to jump up and eat him

Ucangourownwoo · 24/01/2019 08:20

My guinea pigs find any ed Sheeran song very distressing. They get particularly upset by "shape of ypu".

Conversely, they get very excited by the sound of sanitary towels being unwrapped.

PotentialParent · 24/01/2019 08:25

My cat is scared of boxes. He'll stalk around them and gingerly sniff them, but if you make any noise or move while hes doing this he leaps about 5 foot in the air and clatters off to somewhere high to glare at the box. He also dislikes catnip (scared of it), dogs (so puffy and round), children (they are noisy and too enthusiastic for him, and not put off by him being big and scary - he'll have to learn to love ours XD), and vegetables (not scared of them, just disgusted you eat them). Oh, and if you have a bath, he comes into the bathroom and cries because he thinks you need rescuing but he hates water 😂

TooTrueToBeGood · 24/01/2019 08:27

I wish my dog was scared of something. He likes fireworks, actually watches them from the window. He lies in the path of hoovers and lawnmowers without a care. Thinks even the biggest, most aggressive snarly dog is just a friend he hasn't met yet. Loves the postie and deliverymen. Bounds into the vets with joyous enthusiasm. He's a freeking weirdo.

Daytimetellysucks · 24/01/2019 08:30

My cat is terrified of DD when she wears a fluffy onesie. Only ever when she’s wearing that particular onesie. Cat hisses and spits at her before legging it.

DD has a horse which spooks at totally random stuff - Yard Owner when he’s wearing a hat with ear flaps, the yard tractor when it has been reversed into its space rather than driven, her own hair falling when she’s being clipped, Shetland ponies and her own rug - she’s OK when wearing it but panics if she sees it in a heap on the floor,

Villanellesproudmum · 24/01/2019 08:31

Can understand the Ed Sheehan thing, my daughter is the same as your Gpigs.

PerfectionistProcrastinator · 24/01/2019 08:34

My dog is shows no fear of anything...apart from the hairdryer. I’m not sure why, we have never used one on her!

waterlego · 24/01/2019 08:39

My dog gets the fear if a pile of clothes or towels appears somewhere in the house that wasn’t there previously. He growls and barks at it until we deconstruct it to show him it is merely a heap of textiles.

He has also, at various times, been afraid of: wheelbarrows, bags, people wearing black, inflatables, balloons, swimming pool floats and several others.

Sometimes at home he will put his ears right down, tuck his tail under and shove himself right next to/behind me on the sofa. It can take ages to work out what he has seen that has worried him 😂

MysweetAudrina · 24/01/2019 08:40

My dog hates teens with hoodies, anyone at the door including us, the hoover.

The funniest thing though is jelly sweets. If he finds a dropped jelly he will throw it up in the air and attack it and he could spend an hour putting in his mouth, throwing it and attacking it. He never eats them though.

AnneElliott · 24/01/2019 08:43

One of my cars is scared of my bristle brush- sometimes she slaps it, but often she'll just back off.

All frightened of the hoover and hair dryer.

Ginger boy is frightened of the hairdresser - he pokes his head through the cat flap and growls at her.

AnneElliott · 24/01/2019 08:45

One of my cats....

nellieellie · 24/01/2019 08:46

My rescue dog is scared of lots of things. I am constantly surprised - putting up a garden chair had her fleeing indoors at light speed. My large fluffbutt dog (well socialised as a pup) is scared of 1. Stone statues of women in flowing robes. 2. Spiders.

weleasewoderick22 · 24/01/2019 08:56

My dog is scared of feet! If anyone is sitting near him and their feet are in his eyeline he makes a stupid noise like singing then, when he realises nobody is moving their feet for him) storms off to his bed with plenty of sighing along the way.

How dare we have feet!

amusedbush · 24/01/2019 09:01

My dog is terrified of the broom. It sits propped against the wall and if his toys go anywhere near it he jumps up and down, barking at it. If I dare pick it up to sweep while he's in the room he run away Confused

LittleCandle · 24/01/2019 09:16

One of my cats was terrified of black bags. If I was changing the bin bag, I had to check and see where he was and if he was in the kitchen (the bin is by the back door and the cat flap), I had to open it very slowly and push it instead of shaking it vigorously as I usually did.

Both the cats were rescues and I don't know what kind of life they had had before, but they had no idea how to play with a person. If you ran your fingers across the floor towards them, they just looked embarrassed and walked away. They also didn't like cuddles. One finally came round to it (after a good number of years), but the other only sat on my knee in the last couple of months of his life after his brother had been PTS.

DustyMcDustbuster · 24/01/2019 09:18

My older dog is terrified when it’s windy outside. She has to go outside & sit in it. She even ripped the cat flap off the door when I was out & squeezed her fat self through the door, as if left her when it was windy.

My younger boy is a rescue & startles easily, but much better than when we got him. He is, however, terrified of little dogs.
