Dogs in coffee shops?

fedupntired · 23/01/2019 10:45

Is this a thing now? I've previously seen dogs in clothes shops and today am in a coffee shop (which sells food) and two dogs have been welcomed with treats from behind the counter.
I own two dogs - but ew!

I love the idea!!
If I'm honest I prefer the company of dogs more than most humans!!

I mean if I found the place to be smothered in dogs hairs and turds in the corner of the room I'd have something to complain about
But if it's clean then why not!
😊

YANBU. Dogs are shit and the owners are invariably mental. Fuck em all off with their furbaby crap. If I'm paying good money to sit in a cafe, I don't want to share it with a fucking dog. There are fields for people who get their kicks from doing that - take a fucking flask. And fuck off away from civilised people.

Pissedoffdotcom · 26/01/2019 14:17

Riiight...and WE'RE the unhinged ones???

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 26/01/2019 14:18

Dude, I'm not the one that takes animals into shops.

Peanutss · 26/01/2019 14:19

HaroldsSocalledBluetits

Soooo... you like dogs then?

December2018 · 26/01/2019 14:21

@HaroldsSocalledBluetits

Exactly why I prefer dogs!! Ffs

There was an article in our local paper a few months back about an increase in sheep worrying. They interviewed a farmer who had lost several sheep and lambs to a couple of dogs that were out of control. He had to shoot the dogs, which he is legally entitled to do. He was upset at having to do so and was making a plea for owners to keep their dogs under control.

This was posted online and the comments that then followed beggared belief. The entitlement of some dog owners was outrageous and clearly demonstrated that some folk nowadays have absolutely no awareness of the law or the world around them. Comments basically stated how they would shoot the farmer if he shot their dog and one owner thought she was perfectly entitled to walk her dog off the leash in a field of livestock because the farmers did the same with their dogs, the fact that they are trained sheepdogs completely escaped her.

Well behaved dogs anywhere are fine but folk need to take off their rose tinted spectacles when it comes to their precious darlings because sometimes other human beings don’t want a dog around them.

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 26/01/2019 14:23

Well, I guess they don't answer back.

Peanutss · 26/01/2019 14:23

Just go to another cafe... In a town centre there is likely to be 3 more a few shops down that don't allow dogs. It's hardly a difficult thing to grasp.

If the owner wants to create a dog friendly cafe then that's their business. Go somewhere else.

I'm allergic to cats so I wouldn't stroll into a cat Cafe and then complain about all the cats.

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 26/01/2019 14:25

Cat cafés are fucking mental as well.

LittleCandle · 26/01/2019 14:34

I'm just back from Pets At Home and it wasn't a dog that ran into me, stood heavily on my foot, kicked my leg and was totally out of control and didn't apologise. No, that would be the bloody child who's parents had no idea where he was. The dogs were all perfectly well-mannered. That is why people compare dogs and kids. Kids are infinitely more badly behaved generally.

Peanutss · 26/01/2019 14:35

Don't go to one then, problem solved Grin

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 26/01/2019 14:45

Yep, there you are littlecandles, don't go in pets at home or anywhere with children. Problem solved.

EnoughSnowAlready · 26/01/2019 14:47

There's a world of difference between children, who are everywhere and dogs, which the majority of cages don't allow. It isn't that difficult to find a cafe that isn't dog friendly instead of complaining about those that are.

EnoughSnowAlready · 26/01/2019 14:47

Cages? Cafes!

And you call yourself civilised? Stupid troll. I'd much rather hang out in a cafe entirely full of dogs than share it with people like you.

I don't mind a country pub with dogs in. But as someone who as a child caught toxicara (which can blind you) from bring in my local park I'm not a massive fan of dogs and catering establishments.

I love dogs though.
I also like children and find the intolerance shown by people here towards other human beings quite horrid. Maybe the ones who hate kids most were the kind of brattish self centred kids they dislike themselves?

But what people who hate children are doing on a site called Mumsnet is beyond me!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 26/01/2019 15:04

Guide Dogs are obviously an exception, considering they’re exceedingly well trained in all departments.

They still have hair and dander, though.

And they still fart.

Coloursthatweremyjoy · 26/01/2019 15:08

I don't hate children, I love children and in fact spend a great deal of time around them. I do however hate it when children are allowed to run riot in cafes, make a mess and scream. I'm yet to see any dogs who have been taken to cafes, restaurants or shops on anything other than a short lead whilst minding their own business.

Coloursthatweremyjoy · 26/01/2019 15:09

I was told that Labradors (often guide dogs) are in the top 10 of farting animals...sadly not before I purchased one. They are also food magnets wether they are guide dogs or not...

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 26/01/2019 15:14

True about labs, teenage boys though are definitely in the top 3.

EnoughSnowAlready · 26/01/2019 15:16

No, not bratty at all. I could be taken anywhere from a very young age. Feed me and talk to me or give me a book and I was happy. I quite like kids actually, if not as much as animals but I expect their parents to try to control them and be considerate of other people. I do not expect perfect silence or behaviour but I do not see why I should have to tolerate children running around in restaurants and stores, constant shrieking SN asides, kids touching my food, kids throwing things, climbing under my table or generally unsociable behaviour. Likewise I expect people who bring dogs into cafes and restaurants to keep them under control.

As for why people who don't like kids are on MN, 1) Just because you have children it doesn't mean that you'll love other people's children. 2) Expecting parents not to let their children run riot doesn't mean that you hate children. 3) People with and without children use MN because there's a huge variety of topics on it that don't relate to children.

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 26/01/2019 15:22

You do know that shops and other built environments are designed for human habitation and use don't you? Next time a dog builds a cafe you can debate the merits or otherwise of humans being in it.

donkeyshrekmom · 26/01/2019 15:24

Oh this is interesting: I was in Waterstones in Greenwich twice last Sunday and both times there were a couple of people with dogs. I was a bit WTaF. I know it's not a hygene issue but I just think dogs don't belong in any shop. It's a choice to have a dog and I don't think people should feel free to take them everywhere with them. There's no law - just the shop's discretion.
