AIBU to think the Duchess of Cambridge should be better advised

Because ok she has three kids and I think her life is pretty foul, but to whine to a group of women who are facing huge financial, emotional and physical problems in their lives daily that you find things " so hard" when you have solid family support, a full time nanny, housekeepers, cleaners, gardeners, two huge houses with no worries about mortgages repayments, paying for the weeks shopping, not having enough cash for the electricity etc etc is a tad insensitive.

Really though, you have no idea about her life, do you? And surely she’s saying if she finds it hard they must find it even harder. If she didn’t say anything then it would be that she didn’t care. She can’t really win.

I think everyone should say when they find things hard, it shows that struggling is human.

And the whole ‘oh you poor rich person’ is very damaging for people who don’t feel they have the right to be depressed or anxious. It’s not top trumps.

I think she was saying that motherhood is hard. In terms of how to best bring up your child from on an emotional level.

Just because she has staff, no financial worries, help with childcare doesn't mean that she can't find things hard.
She probably finds things hard in a different way to the rest of us but life for her can still be hard.

She can find things hard, were talking about a woman who had to parade her first born to the world on the lido wing steps to global media hours after she had pushed a human being out of her body!!

She still has 3 young children with close age gaps, help or not she probably has enough of hearing "mum...mum...mummy.... MUMMY" 40 times a day from 2 whilst the other grumbles.

She is still human. Everyone's struggles are different, I don't think it's fair to say she has it easy.

I'm happy to hear she finds things 'so hard'. It gives me a, 'fuck, even Kate Middleton finds it hard and she has all the support' rationale - so I can give myself a break and be okay with my own parenting struggles.

I'd rather be anonymous me with no family childcare help and no servants than a Duchess constantly scrutinised by everyone.

The whole point Viques was to allow parents to say that it is hard. It doesn't matter if you have all the dosh in the world, you could still have PND, or an horrendous birth. As a PP said upthread, if she finds it hard, then it's OK for everyone to admit it. She is trying to help and get the difficult issues about family life out into the open. Good on her.

She'd know what hard meant if she was put on a sink estate in Salford with no money for the electricity meter whilst she waited for her UC claim to be processed.

Money cannot buy happiness but it goes a long long way.

I think it was misinterpreted.

I think the other women were struggling and telling their stories and she naturally agreed with them and tried to show a bit of empathy.

I don't think she was necessarily saying "It was so hard FOR ME"

I agree with you OP. It's incredibly patronising on her part.

I'm not anti-royal by any stretch of the imagination but I always have a giggle at the Mumsnetters who genuinely believe that Kate is up doing all the night feeds and then getting up at 6am to mop the kitchen floor. Come on.

I certainly didn’t chose my son’s school on the basis of “best security arrangements”. I can’t imagine that side of her life is such a breeze.

I believe she actually said that despite the support she has, which most parents don’t, she still finds it hard.
