I hate Cheshire

abradingleydon · 21/01/2019 21:58

In light of the I hate surrey... I decided to start one for where I’ve just moved from. Moving away gave me more perspective.

Not all of Cheshire is like this, just the East of the county and closer to Manchester/Macclesfield and the illustrious “Golden Triangle”.

People in these areas, seem to me, to all be;
obsessed with interior design, spend a ridiculous amount of money on new sofas etc almost yearly
Live in fake period dwellings that are hugely massive
Drive big f off cars like a Landrover
May have a house in France
Try and do everything to appear to be upper class
attempt to Keep up with the Joneses

The funny thing is, that I went to comp school with lots of these people. They married well and now completely forget they are normal, and spend all day looking down their noses at people.

Always braying

I would take dcs to their private day school and see the huge brand new 4x4 turn up and their little “Sapphire and Penolopy” would tottle off in pristine clothing. The mums would talk about their big new extension and go for coffees etc How they are going to Florida

Everything is look at me, look at me.

Yes I am being unreasonable, but that’s life Wink

Alderley Edge bred, lived there until my 20s, moved to London for 15 years now back in Cheshire but not Alderley Edge.

There are some hideous people, but there's also lots of lovely people and places.

Trottersindependenttraders · 25/01/2019 23:32

@Busybusybust I walked past that house tonight! I always covert it as it looks like a dolls house from the outside. Didn’t realise the inside was so garish.

Totally agree Luggsaysnotawoman, drives me feckin’ bonkers. Mum & Dad are from South Yorks and always comment on how rude drivers are here.

Trottersindependenttraders · 25/01/2019 23:39

it is full of young girls from all over Manchester trying to hook up with a footballer.

It has been like this for a long time @belleandsnowwhite. Back in the day (mid/late 90’s) girl’s in my year used to go to a club in Alderley Edge just to try to meet Man Utd footballers. It might have been called Millenium ( I can’t remember, may have made that up) and Nicky Butt was the footballer one particular girl was after.

Ah Yes it was, I forgot about that place, I think it was also called yesterday's at some point. I think it is much worse now though, the village is full of flashy bars.

LuggsaysNotaWomen · 26/01/2019 00:02

cruelintentions - I can well believe it. Knutsford did used to be lovely.

Trottersindependanttraders - I swear there is a visceral change in driving behaviour once you hit about Junction13 on the M6. Everybody's pootling along nicely and vwoosh, there's like some sort of invisable DickDriver membrane and everybody's suddenly cutting you up, overtaking on the outside lane and generally behaving like a maniac with a death wish (or perhaps they think their shiny expensive cars don't crumple in a collision like the rest of us in our rust buckets).

Jsmith99 · 26/01/2019 00:08

Anyone who thinks South Cheshire is posh has not met many properly posh people.

Cheshire is definitely affluent, but it’s a northern version of Essex. Cheshire is new money, not old. Designer clothes, not tweed. New Bentleys, not old Landies. Football, not field sports. French bulldogs, not working Springers. Interior design magazines, not Horse & Hound. Holidays in Dubai, not Umbria.
Umbria.

LuggsaysNotaWomen · 26/01/2019 00:13

Jsmith99 I thought you were going to end that initial sentence with "...has not met many people from Crewe", to which I would have said "Tru dat".

But your ending works just as well.

belleandsnowwhite · 26/01/2019 00:15

Who would think South Cheshire is posh?

familyman3 · 14/03/2020 15:22

Come and visit Nantwich and meet many stuck up nasty people who will NOT move out of the way on the pavement but insist on knocking you out of the way. Best of it is that none of the little twerps have anything to be snobby about. Oh by the way to live in Nantwich means that you have to drive either an Audi or BMW and dress in North Face attire. And they take their pathetic road rage onto the pavements of the town. Nantwich is basically a fast food shithole with the pavements plastered on emulsified hydrogenated fat from pizza and chicken outlets. But the oiks that walk the pavements Oh god they are such nasty sub human plankton.

lidoshuffle · 14/03/2020 15:40

I asked for a custard slice in a very mediocre tea shop in Prestbury once, and the very snotty waitress corrected me with, "I think you mean a vanilla slice." I said, " I'd love a mille-feuille, but the custard slice will have to do." Grin

BritWifeinUSA · 14/03/2020 15:45

“How they are going to Florida”. That shows they are not posh. They are either over 80 and going to Naples/Fort Myers or they are not at all posh and going to the chav paradise of Orlando.

familyman3 · 14/03/2020 19:22

I completly agree with you, people I knew at schools who were modest and meek somehow watched too many adverts of cars flying through flames or cars veering off into to the desert for a wild family adventure and are now driving around in a rage because other road users won't pull over and allow their premium vehicle to clear the traffic. I know this because I have been a passenger of a few of them whilst they are driving and have heard their expletives to other road users. Me on the other hand, I am laughed at by them and they shake there heads in misbelief as to why I am so forgiving behind the wheel and drive a lowly Kia Ceed. I think the Northwest of England is where a lot of this tripe live and the sad thing is they are bringing up their offshoots to be just like mummy and daddy. God help the future.

familyman3 · 14/03/2020 19:26

F___g hell that is so stuck up. Custard slice or vanilla slice makes no difference. Sad state of this country .

familyman3 · 14/03/2020 19:51

Bentley's are for chavvs or Ned's with money.

Macc is not a dive. More posh bits than rough bits.

it IS so much a dive!

Vgbeat · 14/03/2020 21:56

We're not a fan of you either 😂😂 only kidding I live in Cheshire there are worst places

RhubarbBikini · 14/03/2020 22:06

I've only ever been to cheshire to buy a car from Fords of Winsford. What a fucking disaster that turned out to be.

I also once dated a man from Birkenhead. His mother insisted they didn't live in Merseyside but in Cheshire and was over the moon at the historic moment the postcode changed from L to CH

mummydoingamasters · 14/03/2020 22:15

I had a 3 year relationship with a bloke from Crewe who moved South because his brother did. Best thing about that relationship was the breakfast at Harvey's on Nantwich Road when we visited family.

Worst thing about that relationship was everything else in Crewe - including him 😂

shinyredbus · 14/03/2020 22:16

‘Private day school’ Grin said a bragger morning about braggers 😂

yelyah22 · 15/03/2020 16:23

Lancashire has Lytham St Anne’s - v nice area

Lytham thinks its Alderley Edge! Big cars, snobbery and thrice year Dubai holidays.

Some of Cheshire is nice though - Macc has always felt kind of cosy and a bit artsy to me?!

AngeloMysterioso · 15/03/2020 16:26

ZOMBIE

bizmum1 · 15/03/2020 17:03

I live in Cheshire and LOVE it. Plus, The Real Housewives Of Cheshire is my guilty pleasure. There is a lot of genuine wealth here alongside the fur coat and no knickers brigade. But overall, I've made some wonderful friends here, the schools are great, the scenery is lovely and Manchester airport is right on the doorstep. I'm very glad we made the decision to move here just over a decade ago.

mrsBtheparker · 15/03/2020 19:38

The 1970 decade boundary changes and subsequent changes upset a lot of people, places were now Cheshire that had previously been Merseyside etc as one PP said, Birkenhead sounded posher now it was Cheshire. My Dad would never use Greater Manchester instead of Lancashire in his address. The good people of Worsley, who consider themselves to be very grand, were now in Salford!!!!!!!! Pass the smelling salts

CheshireDing · 15/03/2020 19:57

😂 YANBU, it sounds like you are describing Wag territory though 😂

Where I lived people are normal and lovely (some millionaires, lots of regular people though)

miracle0812 · 14/11/2020 11:21

I know this is a little old but please do tell me more about Nantwich planning to relocate there from Kent Smile
