I hate Cheshire

In light of the I hate surrey... I decided to start one for where I’ve just moved from. Moving away gave me more perspective.

Not all of Cheshire is like this, just the East of the county and closer to Manchester/Macclesfield and the illustrious “Golden Triangle”.

People in these areas, seem to me, to all be;
obsessed with interior design, spend a ridiculous amount of money on new sofas etc almost yearly
Live in fake period dwellings that are hugely massive
Drive big f off cars like a Landrover
May have a house in France
Try and do everything to appear to be upper class
attempt to Keep up with the Joneses

The funny thing is, that I went to comp school with lots of these people. They married well and now completely forget they are normal, and spend all day looking down their noses at people.

Always braying

I would take dcs to their private day school and see the huge brand new 4x4 turn up and their little “Sapphire and Penolopy” would tottle off in pristine clothing. The mums would talk about their big new extension and go for coffees etc How they are going to Florida

Everything is look at me, look at me.

Yes I am being unreasonable, but that’s life Wink

Stalyvegas! dead posh

Cheshire has a handful of clique areas, the rest of it is perfectly fine and quite picturesque in places but not exceptional.
It's the Surrey of the North, with no good reason to be.

Missdread · 21/01/2019 22:52

Yeah but Cheshire cheese though! It's heaven and I quite literally cannot live without the stuff!!

TornFromTheInside · 21/01/2019 22:56

Good point, well presented.
And very appropriate as half of Cheshire is crackers!

YenZen · 21/01/2019 22:58

This sounds like Balham (and other wealthier parts of London).

NameChanger22 · 21/01/2019 23:08

I would hate to live in Cheshire if it's like. The only part of Cheshire I've ever been to is Birkenhead and it is basically the opposite of what you've just described.

RomanyRoots · 21/01/2019 23:10

Well it's called The Surrey of The North, that area is all fur coat and no knickers.
Lancashire is brilliant though, tsm - T'other side Manchester.
Even Yorkshire has it's pretentious Harrogate.
Yep, seems like Lancy is the place Grin

SkinnyPete · 21/01/2019 23:11

@NameChanger22 The only part of Cheshire I've ever been to is Birkenhead

Ummmmm.....

NameChanger22 · 21/01/2019 23:13

Is Birkenhead not in Cheshire?

whiteroseredrose · 21/01/2019 23:13

No fur coat and big knickers here!

SkinnyPete · 21/01/2019 23:15

Actually I'll cut you some slack since it was part of Cheshire before the mid-70s. Bit like a load of folk still think Warrington is part of Lancashire.

LuggsaysNotaWomen · 21/01/2019 23:15

I grew up in Cheshire and visit often and whilst there are plenty of lovely ordinary folk, as a whole I don’t like the place. It is full of pretentious whatnots and really grumpy old people. It’s like there’s an inverse ratio to how much actual hardship you encounter in life to how much of a fecking miserable git you are in Cheshire.

cafenoirbiscuit · 21/01/2019 23:15

Lancashire has Lytham St Anne’s - v nice area

wowfudge · 21/01/2019 23:16

No - Merseyside. It was in Cheshire in the past.

Crushedvelvetcouch · 21/01/2019 23:18

Ellesmere port is in Cheshire.
I'll leave that with you.

TornFromTheInside · 21/01/2019 23:19

Derbyshire's very picturesque
Cheshire just have geography on its side... handly for Mcr and to a degree Birmingham. It's quite central and has some nice villages and small towns, but I just find it a bit bland. I know I'm being slightly harsh, but it doesn't have any character in my eyes!

Coppermine · 21/01/2019 23:19

What/where is the golden triangle of cheshire? Alderley Edge (must be the capital of Cheshire Grin) Wilmslow, Hale? knutsford?

I really like that part of Cheshire. I think it's a pretty area with lovely towns/villages and countryside.

GaryWilmottsTeeth · 21/01/2019 23:34

Bit like a load of folk still think Warrington is part of Lancashire.

To the day she died, my granny refused to accept that Warrington was in Cheshire. Every form she filled in, every time she wrote her address, she put Lancashire. Caused lots of confusion but she would just say “I am a Lancashire Lass” and then glare at anyone who dared to contradict her.

Vgbeat · 21/01/2019 23:35

Couldn't help but giggle when the poster mentioned dropping off her children at their private day school 😂 there seems to be a certain amount of irony. I live in Cheshire but granted not Cheshire housewife territory and it's all pretty normal at my daughter's state primary.

TornFromTheInside · 21/01/2019 23:41

lol GaryWilmottsTeeth! there's a blast from the past.
Love the name, given the first laugh in a while

Truckingonandon · 22/01/2019 00:12

The golden triangle is Alderly Edge, Wilmslow and Knutsford.

RightOcciputAnterior · 22/01/2019 00:31

I used to live in South Cheshire, in one of the nicer towns, and I miss it to bits. We had to move away to a bland part of the Midlands to be close to family, but if our circumstances changed I'd move back in an instant. We used to go to restaurants and bars in Knutsford sometimes and I did find them very "fur coat and no knickers", with mediocre food - I would always choose to go out in Liverpool/Manchester/Birmingham in preference to stooging around the Golden Triangle with wannabe footballers' wives with their hair extensions and their terribly affected accents! My husband is from a solidly upper middle class background and found all the new money types very vulgar - you can spot them a mile off...

newnameforthis7 · 22/01/2019 00:35

Don't bloody live there then! I love it here (Nantwich!) Best place I have ever lived. (Been here 10 years.) Originally from Dudley.

newnameforthis7 · 22/01/2019 00:36

Warrington should actually be Merseyside seeing as how the bloody river runs through it. Not Lancashire.

Idratherbeinbarbados · 22/01/2019 00:49

I love Cheshire! Been here for years, golden triangle too but I’m not posh, just normal like most others who live here Grin

TornFromTheInside · 22/01/2019 00:49

I made Nantwich once... I tickled her feet while she was asleep
