I hate Cheshire

In light of the I hate surrey... I decided to start one for where I’ve just moved from. Moving away gave me more perspective.

Not all of Cheshire is like this, just the East of the county and closer to Manchester/Macclesfield and the illustrious “Golden Triangle”.

People in these areas, seem to me, to all be;
obsessed with interior design, spend a ridiculous amount of money on new sofas etc almost yearly
Live in fake period dwellings that are hugely massive
Drive big f off cars like a Landrover
May have a house in France
Try and do everything to appear to be upper class
attempt to Keep up with the Joneses

The funny thing is, that I went to comp school with lots of these people. They married well and now completely forget they are normal, and spend all day looking down their noses at people.

Always braying

I would take dcs to their private day school and see the huge brand new 4x4 turn up and their little “Sapphire and Penolopy” would tottle off in pristine clothing. The mums would talk about their big new extension and go for coffees etc How they are going to Florida

Everything is look at me, look at me.

Yes I am being unreasonable, but that’s life Wink

I grew up in a council house in Wilmslow, my parents had working-class jobs. Not everyone is rich. I hate Wilmslow now, it's dull.

I think most affluent areas are like this, where a lot of the residents seem to place more value on expensive cars, designer clothes, handbags, exotic holidays and being seen in all the right places, than actually getting on and enjoying life. I'd hate to live my life being in constant competition with my friends and neighbours, ever fearful of being seen not to measure up

I agree.

That said, I remember having a conversation with a colleague from the Chester area and she said her mother had bought a new mobile phone and a tablet came with it. She was going to give it to my colleague's son (who was about 10 at the time) but he wouldn't have it because it wasn't an ipad! Even in my aspirational part of London-commuterville, the kids have any brand of smartphone.

Macc's definitely not posh! Maybe getting borderline hipster now (5 years after everywhere else).

I live just outside Cheshire but spend a lot of time there for various reasons - I can't be doing with the Hale atmosphere, I occasionally have to pop into a shop by the Booths there and I always get amazed looks at my (ancient, all 4 doors dented - not by me!) car.

We'll be leaving soon to buy a house somewhere else, maybe south west Lancashire way.

Alsager is a sweet, friendly, down to earth little town.
