NCd for this, obviously.
AIBU to think that opening four tins of oily tuna is stressful? You get smelly oily tunaoil all over your hands , then you have to drain it into the sink (that also gets all oily), the tin opener gets oily and tuna-y and worst of all you have to wash the oil and tuna bits out the tins and lids. I asked DH to open them for me and he said I was being a snowflake! Who is right? He said I should ask Mumsnet.

Ugh, I hate opening tuna tins too. We buy the tuna in spring water or brine but it's always splashy and messy, and rinsing the tins for the recycling, no matter how careful you are, always results in fishy water going all over the place. Just grim.

Make small opening in tin and drain what you can then, go round the whole tin with opener, push lid down into tuna whilst holding at an angle over sink, oil drains away without getting any on your fingers, use knife to get lid out and rinse, hope that helps snowflake Grin

"Buy tuna in spring water and also thank god you dont have cats that increases the tuna stress factor by 10 times."

Yes! Our cats can detect the sound/smell of a tin of tuna being opened from anywhere inside the house: they appear in the kitchen in an instant and start noisily hassling me and weaving round my legs.

It depends who thought up the meal that required 4 tins of tuna. I opened four tins of tuna in water recently with a rubbish tin opener and I agree it was stressful. However, it was my recipe that I had chosen and I was going to eat most of it. So rather than thinking DH should do it I just wished I had bought ringpull cans.

If it was his idea I would have got him to take over about 1/4 of the way through can 1 or more likely wouldn’t have started. If it was a team effort I think I would still have asked do to do that bit - which would have been sexist of me.

I swear our cats are mind readers. During a lazy Sunday afternoon, I once thought 'I'll give the cats tuna for tea' every single one of them instantly got up and went and sat in front of their empty bowls in the kitchen in readiness.

YANBU I hate opening tuna. I hate it when my husband or son wants it.
I used to buy the oil one as I do prefer the taste so does everyone else but I did have to switch to water way less messy n a tad less smelly then when no mess drain free tuna came out life saver!!! Expensive god I know so I wait for it to go on sale n stock up GrinGrin

Tuna in oil is really nice for a tomato and tuna pasta sauce. Adds a richness.

waxy1 · 20/01/2019 11:11

If only they packed it in beef dripping, instead of that messy oil.

If that's your definition of stressful, I envy you!

At worst, I would class it as mildly annoying.
