NCd for this, obviously.
AIBU to think that opening four tins of oily tuna is stressful? You get smelly oily tunaoil all over your hands , then you have to drain it into the sink (that also gets all oily), the tin opener gets oily and tuna-y and worst of all you have to wash the oil and tuna bits out the tins and lids. I asked DH to open them for me and he said I was being a snowflake! Who is right? He said I should ask Mumsnet.

I needed four tins as I have a lot of children.

Are they all cats?

Bumblebee39 · 19/01/2019 14:20

I hate tuna in oil as it is stressful, splatters on clothes etc. Too.

Brine or water is so much better.

I think whilst you are probably being a bit U I would be very annoyed at being called a snowflake.

Tonightstheteriyakichicken · 19/01/2019 14:23

I love tinned tuna and mackerel, DH likes sardines in tomato sauce, we open our own tin to avoid guilt over splatter.

Tinty I had forgotten Mum's cat went wild like yours for tinned tuna. Grin

I think yanbu I quite simply cannot find tin openers that work properly these days, they are too clever and fangled

I buy the old fashioned butterfly openers, they're less than a quid in asda and the butterfly bit comes in many colours. I now have a stash because I am like that and one day they may no longer be made and i will own them all

GetUpAgain · 19/01/2019 14:25

DS uses a colander for straining tuna and this makes it so much easier.

There 50p and pretty for a can opener. And they work, after the probably hundreds I have spent on new fangled can openers, I find the 50p ones work so much better.

Tuna is stinky but I love it so I take the hit on opening cans. Still the no drain cans are better.

feel like I said cans day too much in this post

maddiemookins16mum · 19/01/2019 14:30

Tuna is so bleedin expensive these days!!

  • misses point of thread
Teateaandmoretea · 19/01/2019 14:33

Thanks, unfortunately I live nowhere near as Asda.

derxa · 19/01/2019 14:33

Is this in Glasgow, or somesuch benighted Place? Hilarious

Schmoobarb · 19/01/2019 14:37

I want a tuna sandwich now. Grin

I don’t find it stressful but tuna in oil is rank.

Dreamstosell · 19/01/2019 14:42

Become vegetarian- problem solved 😀

borntobequiet · 19/01/2019 14:43

You should be stockpiling that tuna you know, not scoffing it before Brexit. Unless you are planning to store it as excess body weight.

maltharders · 19/01/2019 14:44

YABVVVU to say tuna in oil tastes better than tuna in water.

ChesterGreySideboard · 19/01/2019 14:45

Threads like this are why I so love MN Grin

ilovesooty · 19/01/2019 14:49

Well apparently this is a Real Problem.

Amazing.

raisinsraisins · 19/01/2019 14:49

I wear washing up gloves to do my tuna, so no oily tuna on my hands. Princes do a good tin with an easy to use ring pull.

PastaCake · 19/01/2019 14:51

@iklboo thanks for the hint re: corned beef.

OP - could try one of those fancy electric tin openers if you have to regularly eat tuna? Failing that don't make anything with tuna and when it's your partners turn to cook leave the tuna to him.

Silvercatowner · 19/01/2019 14:54

*Whispers

I'm really enjoying the posts from posters who are taking the OP Utterly Seriously.

I'm in the 'tuna in oil is nicer than tuna in spring water' camp.

And yes, opening tins of tuna is one of those jobs you just have to push through.

Ellie56 · 19/01/2019 14:55

No I am not a cat.
I needed four tins as I have a lot of children.

And you live in a shoe right? Grin

Mousewithascarf · 19/01/2019 14:56

YABU. Opening tuna is nothing compared to opening those sardine tins with those weird key things. Have never managed to get one past the half way point and then have to excavate the inside of a tin with a fork and tease out the sardines bit by bit. It left me with PTSD (post traumatic sardine disorder).

maddiemookins16mum · 19/01/2019 14:57

Blimey Op, are you called Sue with so many children you need four tins of tuna?

StartedEarly · 19/01/2019 14:59

When I saw this I just knew MN would disapprove of tuna in oil.Grin.
I prefer oil as it stops it from tasting dry. Also because sometimes the cat gets the scrapings from the tin and the salted version wouldn't be good for him.
Cat can hear a can of tuna being opened from a mile away. He can also not distinguish between cans of tuna and other cans, so comes scuttling into the kitchen if I open a tin of tomatoes.

DragginBallsEEEE · 19/01/2019 15:00

YANBU I detest doing it too. But now I pay that little bit more to buy the no drain tuna with the ring pull. Godsend!

cheesywotnots · 19/01/2019 15:00

Use the Princess No Drain tuna in spring water, no mess, has a ring pull but you can wear a pair of marigolds if it's that bad.
