To think that opening four tins of tuna is stressful and DH is BU?

NCd for this, obviously.
AIBU to think that opening four tins of oily tuna is stressful? You get smelly oily tunaoil all over your hands , then you have to drain it into the sink (that also gets all oily), the tin opener gets oily and tuna-y and worst of all you have to wash the oil and tuna bits out the tins and lids. I asked DH to open them for me and he said I was being a snowflake! Who is right? He said I should ask Mumsnet.

I second John West no drain tuna in oil. It also has a ring pull. Changed my life.

MyNewBearTotoro · 19/01/2019 13:17

‘Stressful’!?!?

No, not at all. A bit unpleasant maybe if you don’t like tuna (although if you don’t like it not sure why you’re cooking with it?) but it’s a fairly straightforward task. Can’t see how it would become stressful unless you’re having to open them blindfolded using only a machete or do it whilst also tight-rope walking above a shark pond etc.

Gazelda · 19/01/2019 13:18

I'm afraid your DH is correct.
As are all the other posters on this thread - brine or spring water is much better.
Unless this is a reverse .....?

Lifeofsmiley · 19/01/2019 13:18

You can buy no drain tuna which opens with a ring pull. It will change your life

lilraven · 19/01/2019 13:18

I cannot stand opening tins of tuna! YANBU

Ifailed · 19/01/2019 13:18

why buy it in oil if you are just going to throw it away?

BertieBotts · 19/01/2019 13:19

Do you have sensory issues? It is the kind of thing which bothers me but I have always thought I was a bit strange.

Lifeofsmiley · 19/01/2019 13:19

Crosspost with hola, it’s amazing isn’t it

Romanov · 19/01/2019 13:19

Stressful????? Hahaha

AuntieOxident · 19/01/2019 13:19

You don’t have to drain the oil anyway unless you’re counting calories or similar — if it’s for a sandwich just mash up with the oil and don’t add any mayo. Ditto for topping a baked potato.

FraxinusExcelsior · 19/01/2019 13:19

Just kill your own tuna next time. No tricky tins to deal with.

Whisky2014 · 19/01/2019 13:20

I prefer the tuna in spring water but just musing...John Westgate chose "spring water" rather than "water". That's all it is...water. Spring water makes it sound much fancier doesnt it?! : D

BuffaloCauliflower · 19/01/2019 13:20

This might be the most ‘first world problem’ I’ve ever seen.

Also YABU for putting oil down the sink - go look up fatburgs. Buy tuna in brine.

PattiStanger · 19/01/2019 13:20

Rather than rely on randomers you should Google the statistics on fish tin opening related stress disorders but make sure it's proper peer reviewed research published in a recognised scientific journal or failing that, grow up and don't be so ridiculously stupid.

WhoWants2Know · 19/01/2019 13:21

Tuna weirds me out.

waxy1 · 19/01/2019 13:22

People eat tinned food?

Is this in Glasgow, or somesuch benighted Place?

pigsDOfly · 19/01/2019 13:23

Your DH is BU for using the term 'snowflake' but otherwise he's right. It's a bit of a faff, but hardly stressful.

Agree with pps, if you can't deal with it buy the John West no drain tuna.

Whisky2014 · 19/01/2019 13:23

Waxy1 you're not a brexit prepper then?! Grin

PippilottaLongstocking · 19/01/2019 13:25

I find opening any tins stressful after badly slicing my hand open on one! And tuna is slimy and stinky. So YANBU

iklboo · 19/01/2019 13:25

Buy tins with ring pulls!

Did that once. It got a bit stuck so I pulled harder. Can shot across kitchen spraying tuna everywhere. It was like watching it in slow motion. Now that was stressful. Happy cats though.

SexNotJenga · 19/01/2019 13:26

You are both being unreasonable. Opening tuna is not stressful, therefore there is no reason for your dh not to do it.

LaurieMarlow · 19/01/2019 13:26

Fuck sake it's only Tuna. What else in your life is 'stressful'?

I prefer it in oil actually. I think it tastes better.

safariboot · 19/01/2019 13:26

It shouldn't be stressful unless you've got a shit tin opener.

But to those saying draining the oil is bad for the pipes, I say bull. Hot fat eg off roasts or burgers is bad because it cools and congeals, but surely oil that's liquid at room temp is staying liquid and won't cause fatbergs.

But I buy in brine or water anyway, because why add unnecessary fat to my food.

Cauliflowersqueeze · 19/01/2019 13:27

Sounds fishy to me...

MrsBungle · 19/01/2019 13:29

Tuna in spring water...
