NCd for this, obviously.
AIBU to think that opening four tins of oily tuna is stressful? You get smelly oily tunaoil all over your hands , then you have to drain it into the sink (that also gets all oily), the tin opener gets oily and tuna-y and worst of all you have to wash the oil and tuna bits out the tins and lids. I asked DH to open them for me and he said I was being a snowflake! Who is right? He said I should ask Mumsnet.

If you are opening 4 wee tins, why not buy 1 big tin instead? Thus quartering the amount of stress Grin

DonCorleoneTheThird · 19/01/2019 13:33

this thread is just one of the reasons why I love MN.

the hardship faced by some posters is an eye opener sometimes.

I can recommend this one:

To think that opening four tins of tuna is stressful and DH is BU?
BarbarianMum · 19/01/2019 13:35

So if opening tuna is stressful, why does that maje it your dh's job? Do things not get oily or smell of fish when he does it?

Tinoftuna · 19/01/2019 13:35

PattiStanger thank you, I'll ask DH to do that and report back, might take a while though.

Tuna in oil? Yuck.
Opening tuna can be stressful at times as my cats hear me opening the cupboard and come charging, scream mine at me, and won't leave me alone until I give them some.

Bluestitch · 19/01/2019 13:36

I hate it too! I now buy ring pull tuna in spring water, open and tip it into a collander over the sink and squish down with a fork to drain the water out. Still messy but not as bad.

StarJazmin · 19/01/2019 13:36

Even if it is “stressful” it isn’t why does that mean that your husband has to do it for you? Woman up!

Sitranced · 19/01/2019 13:36

I wish my life was only as stressful as yours.

Thehop · 19/01/2019 13:37

I hate opening tuna but I love it and I’m on weight watchers so I have no choice!

I buy tuna in spring water and it’s easier by far. Just drain whilst tap is running.

ElderMcKinley · 19/01/2019 13:38

I was once driven to tears trying to open a Fray Bentos pie.

almutasakieun · 19/01/2019 13:38

Why 4 tins of tuna, are you a cat?

Grin

So many unanswered questions on this thread....

ProbablyNotMyRealName · 19/01/2019 13:39

I feel like you need some actual stress in your life to compare it to.

Pachyderm1 · 19/01/2019 13:41

Sorry OP, but you’re being a massive drip Grin

Bellatrix14 · 19/01/2019 13:42

If you have decided to cook something that involves opening 4 tins of tuna then I think you are being entirely unreasonable (I find this job very unpleasant, so I’ll makr someone I love do it instead. Yay!)...

However if he has requested that you make something involving 4 tins of tuna, or this is packed lunches for shared children, then I don’t see why he can’t help. You could do half each Wink

Rodenhide · 19/01/2019 13:43

OP,
In response to your problems, I have decided to start a fundraising campaign to help those in this country who are still, in 2019, being afflicted by such problems. I think it will be a real eye opener for some to see that even in a first world country, some people still go through the regular horror of opening cans of tuna. It's one of those things you only think of happening in other countries!
We will contribute not only to raising awareness but to providing therapy for those who have already suffered with and the distribution of can-opening robots to EVERYBODY! No more shall people be left behind.

This kind of oil does not cause fatbergs and is fine to go down the sink.

Rockbird · 19/01/2019 13:45

YANBU. I love tuna but absolutely hate opening it. I sometimes use four tins if I'm making a big batch of tuna pasta or something and I detest it. Smelly, yucky hands even though I only ever buy the spring water. And the ring pull cans are just as evil.

brizzledrizzle · 19/01/2019 13:45

AIBU to think that opening four tins of oily tuna is stressful?

That's not just a first world problem, that's a M&S 1st world problem. Heaven help you if you ever have to live in the real world.

Rockbird · 19/01/2019 13:46

OMG just seen the colander idea. That may actually change my life!

Tinoftuna · 19/01/2019 13:48

Sorry I haven't answered your questions, had to go and do an inventory of my baked beans tin stash, most of them have ring pulls, phew. And they are easy to rinse out anyway.

No I am not a cat.
I needed four tins as I have a lot of children.
Not worried about the fatberg, dispose of my own sewage.
Tuna in oil tastes better than tuna in water (spring of no spring).
Haven't seen the big tins in Tesco recently, otherwise that really would be a good solution.

MitziK · 19/01/2019 13:48

YABU when you could buy the catering size tins of tuna in brine, save money and only have to deal with one tin and no oil.

First word problems, eh?

almutasakieun · 19/01/2019 13:54

And just to satisfy my curiosity, what is it that you're cooking? Thanks for answering all the other questions btw.
Why are you washing the tins out? Can you recycle tin cans? I didn't think so, so have always put them in the waste bin.

howabout · 19/01/2019 13:55

Ringpulls are much worse than using a can opener, especially if you open 4 tins at once.

Cannot stand baked beans so would struggle to rinse them out.

Glad you dispose of your own sewerage as in contrast to oyster since oil doesn't dissolve in water I don't see how it wouldn't coagulate around a fatberg.

To the pp querying tuna consumption in Glasgow. Fish here comes from the chippy not the store cupboard..
