Trump caved to open the Gov’t, but he didn’t do it for the American people. He opened it so he could give the State of the Union. And distract from the arrest of his best friend Roger Stone.

cozietoesie · 25/01/2019 20:35

Could someone fill me in? How can he reopen government with no funding?

Wordthe · 25/01/2019 21:35

He clearly enjoys the idea of women with duct tape over their mouths😞

Trump Has No Idea How Grocery Stores Work it doesnt matter if you have no money, shops will 'work along' (?) with you and give you food anyway!

CNN
@CNN
House Speaker Pelosi said the deal to reopen the government does not necessarily mean President Trump's State of the Union will take place next week. "What I'd said to the President is when the government is open, we will discuss a mutually agreeable date" (link: cnn.it/2UnL4fV )

Even Nixon-ites don't want him.

This morning’s widely-circulated characterization of Roger Stone as a Nixon campaign aide or adviser is a gross misstatement. Mr. Stone was 16 years old during the Nixon presidential campaign of 1968 and 20 years old during the reelection campaign of 1972. 1/2

Mr. Stone, during his time as a student at George Washington University, was a junior scheduler on the Nixon reelection committee. Mr. Stone was not a campaign aide or adviser. Nowhere in the Presidential Daily Diaries from 1972 to 1974 does the name "Roger Stone" appear. 2/2

Roger Stone claims that when Trump "answered the written interrogatories, he correctly and honestly said Roger Stone and I never discussed [lying to Congress] and we never did."

How does Roger Stone know what Trump told Mueller unless they discussed this matter?

Thorough and considered evidence that there is no emergency on the southern border.

As a furloughed scientist, I thought it worthwhile to use my PhD skills to look at evidence for the president’s claims of a national security crisis & whether his desire for a wall is an adequate justification for a government #shutdown that has cut off pay for 800,000 Americans.

What every American should be asking themselves right now is this: what is the evidence that our border is so unsafe that it constitutes a crisis and the need to #BuildTheWall? Evidence that would be needed to support such a claim are that...

Annnnd he's back.

In 21 days President @realDonaldTrump is moving forward building the wall with or without the Democrats. The only outstanding question is whether the Democrats want something or nothing

'But this wasn’t fun. It was funny, watching Trump trying to persuade America that this wasn’t a colossal failure for which he alone was responsible. But it wasn’t fun. Not for the people affected. This shutdown will go down as one of the most shockingly incompetent episodes in the entire history of the American presidency. Of this there is no doubt.

Warren Harding, who liked drinking and playing poker more than being president, once confided to a friend that “I am not fit for this office and should never have been here.”

Trump is like Harding, except Harding had one quality Trump lacks utterly: self-awareness.'

It feels as if it's become trump vs America, he thinks he can hold the country to ransom until he gets what he wants, he's supposed to be working for them not working against them

his whole act revolves around him being a good deal maker but it turns out he doesn't really know what negotiating is
He thinks he has to just turn up the heat until he gets what he wants

Wordthe · 26/01/2019 10:46

in order to negotiate you need to be able to see a few moves ahead, you need to be able to put yourself into the Minds of the people with whom you are negotiating
He does not have the cognitive capacity to do this, Nancy the nemesis took him by the hand and lead him into a trap
he went willingly because it just never occurred to him that a woman would be able to outmaneuver him
For her it was just like taking candy from a baby

Maddow Blog
@MaddowBlog
The House Intelligence Committee can't send testimony transcripts to Robert Mueller until they have a full set of members. So far, Republicans are not naming any members to the Intelligence Committee. They managed it for 23 other committees, but...

PerkingFaintly · 26/01/2019 11:35

There's a suggestion by a tweeter on that Maddow Blog thread that Pelosi can set a deadline for Republicans to name members to the Intelligence Committee.

I don't know if it's true. Obviously the committee could also break procedure and release the transcripts to Mueller without a full committee.

It's worrying me that, just as in the UK, procedures (that presumably were put in place for good reason) are being damaged because of one side or another's stretching them to the furthest limit in order to obstruct governing or obstruct justice. The group doing the stretching aren't being democratic – they're behaving like this because they believe they won't get votes to support them. But breaking the rules may cause longer term damage.

AcrossthePond55 · 26/01/2019 13:35

I agree and good points Perking.

I don't know the ins and outs of appointing committee members, etc, but it's obvious the GOP is doing this strictly to 'hamstring' the Intel Comm.

And you are also right about breaking the rules & long term damage. I think the Dems have to consider that if they forge ahead with releasing info without a full committee that the time may come when that same action might be 'used against them' in a more serious situation.

On other fronts, DH and I were pondering (after a bit of Wine) the meaning behind Stone's "I will never bear false witness against Scrotus". Sooooo, could that mean he's open to telling the truth to save his own skin? No honour amongst thieves and all that.

cozietoesie · 26/01/2019 18:30

I fear not, Across.

lionheart · 26/01/2019 19:21

I think Stone wants to go down with the ship -- maybe he is deluded enough to believe that cries of 'conspiracy' will save him.

A rather flimsy life-raft.
