To ask if you’d vote differently if we had second referendum?

Bizzle123 · 18/01/2019 21:02

I’ve read threads about how people would vote in a second Brexit referendum. But it’s more interesting - and more relevant - to know if many people have actually changed their minds. So, are there any “leavers” who would now vote remain and vice versa? What are your reasons?

I voted remain and would do so again. I think remain would win if we had another referendum. I suspect there are a lot of Leave voters who secretly, although they aren't exactly pro-EU, had understandably not had any real inkling of what a total nightmare it would all be (the process, never mind the actual eventual effects) and would vote remain (but maybe not admit in public that they'd changed their minds).

ThereWillBeAdequateFood · 20/01/2019 16:32

Leave, preferably no deal leave, if the EU don't make a sensible offer

What would a sensible offer look like

CloserIAm2Fine · 20/01/2019 16:33

I voted remain and would still vote remain no matter how many times this question is asked

StoorieHoose · 20/01/2019 16:54

I think if it went to another vote a lot of people in Scotland would vote leave and then push for IndyRef2

Noname99 · 20/01/2019 16:58

Agree it was in the legislation but it was never presented that way by either side of the debate. It was presented by all parties as a vote that would be abided by all parties. It would be utterly duplicitous to declare afterwards that it was only advisory and we are not going to abide by it!

WhoNose88 · 20/01/2019 16:59

Voted Remain, would again. If we were to have another vote, Remain are likely to win even if everyone votes the same, simply because a lot of the older (mostly Leave) voters aren't around anymore, while the younger (mostly Remain) voters are now of voting age. If the Leave voters thought they had any chance of winning again, they wouldn't be so against a second vote. Democracy, eh?

Vote ms leave. Would vote leave again. I have many friends who voted remain as they have seen how the EU has “negotiated through out the whole process and do not like the way they have handled themselves.
1)interested in why u voted leave b4
2)how could your friends tell EU negotiations poor when the UK negotiations have been shambolic?

Hawkinspace · 20/01/2019 17:18

You would vote leave on principle. Firm stance on that principle.
But please explain why the duty of government (to ensure good governance and adequate investigation as to how a harm-free transition is to be effected) is exempt from the principles you espouse?
Bearing in mind we will all feel the impact, any version of Brexit will leave us poorer. That's been established.

HerondaleDucks · 20/01/2019 17:20

I don't think the EU have treated us badly at all. I think they have been pretty fair about the whole thing. It's the UK politicians that have failed us.

falcon5 · 20/01/2019 17:25

God no. I voted leave not really expecting to win and thinking it would be a Norway style arrangement. Freedom of movement had nothing to do with my vote and I thought was only relevant to a far fringe. To be clear I'd vote remain now.

Kittykat93 · 20/01/2019 17:32

I didn't vote. I'd now vote to remain Smile

Quartz2208 · 20/01/2019 17:53

Norway suits Norway - I think though we forget that the UK is 4 separate countries who have different needs - the border is one of the hardest things to sort.

Ultimately we want it all - thats the issue, we want everything good about being in the EU and none of the bad. But that is not what life is about. Any leave options will involve good and bad things - simply doing it for change sake is pointless

MrsMcW · 20/01/2019 18:02

I voted leave, but wondered if I'd done the right thing almost immediately. 2 years worth later, I'd vote leave again without hesitation. Utterly appalled by Brussels' treatment of the whole process and our own MPs' complete disdain for democracy.

Buttercupsandaisies · 20/01/2019 18:16

I don't get this argument about more young voters as older voters have died?!?! That's ridiculous as other voters have aged too!!! And let's face it the vast majority of leavers whilst older, where not knocking on deaths door where they! Most leave voters I know are aged 30-45

ThereWillBeAdequateFood · 20/01/2019 18:19

Utterly appalled by Brussels' treatment of the whole process

What about Brussels treatment appalled you?

daisypond · 20/01/2019 18:20

Brussels' treatment of the process has been fine. It's the UK which has been utterly useless - the government didn't know what it wanted, let alone say what it wanted, etc, so Brussels had nothing to go on. What did the UK expect to do with the Irish border? Had they even thought about it?

RaisinClaw · 20/01/2019 18:22

I would vote the same - remain.

Gth1234 · 20/01/2019 18:24

@ThereWillBeAdequateFood

clearly, a sensible offer (and probably all we really wanted) was for us to be excluded from open door immigration/freedom of movement

let's face it, that's why we voted out, truth be told.

Quartz2208 · 20/01/2019 18:47

exactly gth1234 we wanted all the good bits that we liked and none of the bad

but exactly how many negotiations have ever gone that way - and certainly never in the way of one vs the rest

Brussels has to put the interests of itself and its members first which is exactly right and does not involve allowing us to cherrypick

Spudsandspanners · 20/01/2019 18:49

Voted to remain and would vote the same again. Hopefully we have now learned that you can't reduce such a major decision to a yes/no answer, and a second vote would be more specific.

passionflower50 · 20/01/2019 18:57

i woukldnt bother voting if my first vote didnt count wheres the point in kep voting till someone gets th result they like

ThereWillBeAdequateFood · 20/01/2019 19:07

clearly, a sensible offer (and probably all we really wanted) was for us to be excluded from open door immigration/freedom of movement

We can remain in the E.U. and not have a completely open door policy. The four indivisible freedoms are freedom of capital, services, goods and labour. Not people, Labour.
After 3 months in the UK EU migrants need to be either working, have a member of the family working or have sufficient funds to live. If not then they can be returned to their home country.
The U.K. doesn’t register when migrants arrive in the E.U. so it can’t kick them out if they can’t support themselves after 3 months.

It’s successive U.K. governments that let you down on immigration policy not the E.U.

adriano007 · 20/01/2019 19:08

Voted Leave, would vote Leave again

Hawkinspace · 20/01/2019 19:13

Adriano 007
Can you say why now more facts are known, you would still choose to leave?

Hawkinspace · 20/01/2019 19:14

Adriano007 sorry I mistyped your name - gotta get back to cut n paste habit :-)
