To ask if you’d vote differently if we had second referendum?

Bizzle123 · 18/01/2019 21:02

I’ve read threads about how people would vote in a second Brexit referendum. But it’s more interesting - and more relevant - to know if many people have actually changed their minds. So, are there any “leavers” who would now vote remain and vice versa? What are your reasons?

Then the leavers throw their toys out the pram, claim it’s undemocratic and demand another referendum...

Can you imagine the remain camp then? All hell would break lose. There would be an outrage.

Do as I say and not as I do.

EmmaC78 · 18/01/2019 22:30

I voted remain and would vote remain again.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 18/01/2019 22:32

I agree ken

I really feel ive been forced on to a side

And i dont want that

How2makethisbetter · 18/01/2019 22:33

I would not even bother to vote this time as our politicians have shown themselves to be useless, self serving idiots, only interested in furthering their own political career. They do not give a toss about the people they're meant to represent.

User758172 · 18/01/2019 22:35

@How2makethisbetter

No, they really don’t! I never quite realised how incompetent and self-interested they were until now. We’re just the rabble who need to be told what’s best for us.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 18/01/2019 22:35

how

I agree

(Though i would vote again)

BoneyBackJefferson · 18/01/2019 22:38

KennDodd

both sides have used psychology in their campaigns. one seeking to put all the troubles on one side building on years on media and politicians spin and the other seeming to make the other side feel all superior.

CatnissEverdene · 18/01/2019 22:39

I voted Leave and would again.

My only hope out of this sorry bloody saga is that everyone learns that you can only hold a referendum to decide something IF you have an actual plan for both decisions. It's been a disgrace and an embarrassment.

ThereWillBeAdequateFood · 18/01/2019 22:40

Yes. my own bias is showing. again apologies to ThereWillBeAdequateFood

Thanks for the apology but you’ll probably want to take it back. I wasn’t actually writing a ballot paper. Just pointing out that “Leave” actually has to mean something when people vote for it.

I’d love to know which Leave leavers actually want.

KennDodd · 18/01/2019 22:43

Also, our politicians are also subject to the same psychology with the added pressure of being in the public eye so not wanting to lose face.

ilovesooty · 18/01/2019 22:43

Apologies. It was in the Telegraph - May leaves diplomats in disbelief as she presents unchanged demands.

SisterOfDonFrancisco · 18/01/2019 22:44

According to a poll by farmers weekly, most farmers would still vote leave even though they agree that government negotiations aren't going well and post brexit future looks bleak.

How2makethisbetter · 18/01/2019 22:45

I'm absolutely disgusted and ashamed of how they've behaved.
Rather than putting their egos and own desires aside and doing what's best for the country, they've squabbled like children and wasted 2 1/2 years doing very little except score points against each other.

They could've pulled together and made the best they could out of the hand the referendum dealt them.
If they'd done that from the get go, we could've been in a better place now (or not; because everything about this is unknown really).

Instead they've embarrassed themselves, and made themselves look like weak, selfish fools, and probably ruined any chance we had of getting a decent/ acceptable outcome.

CarlGrimesMissingEye · 18/01/2019 22:46

I voted leave for all sorts of reasons surrounding my concerns with how the EU as an entity is managed, run, and the the goals it has et itself for the future. It was a hard decision and close call which way I'd go.

Given my time again, knowing what a shambles the government has made of it, the incredible lack of grace and professionalism that has marked the way the last two years has been handled, I would put aside my feelings for the EU and vote to remain. This is so much worse.

A sensible negotiated brexit could have worked. But it needed politicians who could rise above party politics and do the best for the country. We apparently don't have those anymore.

So yes. I'd vote differently knowing what I know now

KennDodd · 18/01/2019 22:47

Again the psychology! People voted leave imagining a myriad of different Brexits, Norway was talked about a lot and plenty voted with this in mind. Now however, very, very often Leave voters claim everybody voted with the same vision in mind, which happens to be theirs.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 18/01/2019 22:47

Does she think that no one will notice?

BoneyBackJefferson · 18/01/2019 22:48

Thanks for the apology but you’ll probably want to take it back.

God no, I made a mistake, and it should be recognised.

I’d love to know which Leave leavers actually want.

I think that that is a very valid point, and have said before that it should have been decided what direction the country was going to take before article 50 was triggered.

Fantastiqueangel · 18/01/2019 22:51

I'm just so glad i don't know any leave voters in real life. I wouldn't be able to be polite about it all I don't think.
As people have said it's not undemocratic. Probably not ideal either. None of this sorry mess we are being forced through is.

icannotremember · 18/01/2019 22:54

No. I voted Remain then and would vote Remain now. And I would campaign a great deal more than last time. I want to see young people voting in huge numbers if we get another chance.

ThereWillBeAdequateFood · 18/01/2019 22:54

Got to agree with you there. boney just out of curiosity what kind of Brexit would you want? (Thanks for the apology by the way, it’s good of you).

User758172 · 18/01/2019 22:56

@Fantastiqueangel

You couldn’t even be polite to someone who disagrees with you politically? Confused

badlydrawnperson · 18/01/2019 22:57

I'm just so glad i don't know any leave voters in real life

Do you feel the same way about people who vote for different political parties?

Fantastiqueangel · 18/01/2019 22:57

At the moment, over this issue, no. In general, usually, of course.

ThereWillBeAdequateFood · 18/01/2019 22:58

And I would campaign a great deal more than last time

Me too. Also post Brexit, or hopefully no Brexit. I plan to do a lot more to try and redress the reasons that caused Brexit. Areas of the country that have been left behind, zero hours contracts and more.

I’m not mad at a lot of people who voted Brexit. Their lives are shit and they want them to improve.

ilovesooty · 18/01/2019 22:59

I agree Boney
When she said "Brexit means Brexit" she had no idea what it did mean. Article 50 should not have been triggered until what it meant had been established.
