BitOutOfPractice I can't find it yet, but it's a very long post so easy to spot if you scroll through.

There are some cracking stories on that thread! Grin

The ones about the London super selective independent schools. I live in Kent so an 11plus area and people talk about the awful pressure this puts our children under, but it’s nothing compared to what’s going on with middle class Londoners. Our children only have one day of exams, these children can be doing up to six different exams for different schools, plus call back interviews, plus extra music or sport or art assessment days where the parents are hoping to score a bursary, which the children have been tutored and coached for alongside academic tutoring. These are 10 and 11 year olds.

@BartonHallow I mean, I'm not claiming to be the most mature, if she had confirmed that she had indeed farted as an angry response then I would have chuckled, but OMG FUNNIEST THREAD EVA!! totally embarrassed this forum imo.

For me there are two that immediately spring to mind as being memorable: The one about the Mexican house thief and the ‘artisan scotch eggs’ otherwise known as fatballs. The first made my jaw drop, the second one slayed me dead. I have recounted fatballs in company more than once, citing mumsnet as the source. It was hilarious!

She actually did come back and say she had IBS and farted in anger. It wasn't a typo!

I am not usually a fan of toilet humour, but there was something linguistically really funny about the placement and buildup of the 'snapped and farted' line that made me laugh.

I think it's a bit silly to say that snapped and farted embarrassed the forum. It was just a daft bit of fun, at the time the thread was running everyone became as giddy as kippers. It probably isn't that funny to read back but it was at the time.

@BartonHollow - I have a vague memory of the OP from the ‘snapped and farted’ thread coming back to it and saying it wasn’t a typo - that it is exactly what happened. She snapped (at her OH, iirc) and then farted. Apologies if my vague memory is incorrect.

That's really interesting about regulars being banned and seeing an email not intended for them where Justine talks about "these people"
Because I actually think there used to be a band of regulars who were far too prolific on here and bullying in their nature. I had a run in with one once, called it out and well let's just say I was shocked by the vitriol over a screen.
I've always found in life, you are never the only one, even if it seems like you are a lone wolf calling out bullying bullshit.
This was years and years ago but I suppose this site has grown and yes it seems some of said regulars were banned. Maybe because the moderators could see what I and I'm sure others could. It wasn't a pleasant place to be at times.

Haha I missed the bird fat ball...but my DH is a dustbin and if he found anything in the fridge he would eat it!

I think some of these are more favourite threads rather than shocking threads!

Very recently, an OP writing that her baby had passed away late in a very precious pregnancy, and asking for support as she went in to hospital to give birth. The thread quickly filled up overnight with heartfelt support and personal stories of grief. It turned out that the OP was a troll. I am generally unshockable and not easily taken in, but that thread got me on both counts.

TBH most of the really shocking ones have been stories of abuse and violence with the occasional accident/neglect, the one which will never leave me is the one where the poster's DH badly burned their child by adding petrol to a bonfire. Gives me the fear now when people post about how their DH/DP/ex is blasé about their children's safety. The DH in question had not intended any harm he had just utterly failed to see the risk factors.

Happy ending ones have been the one where a poster was having bad stomach pains during dinner which turned out to be labour. The poster who had a home birth while snowed in and the midwife nearly didn't get there. The ectopic pregnancy diagnosed by MN! The one where the OP went to A&E at MN's insistence and was told she had sepsis and if she'd gone to bed she would have died Shock

Not so much happy ending but weird - the sootikin thread [bleurgh] and the gaslighting husband who swapped pasty flavours in the fridge so the OP would think she was going mad Confused

Reading about adult ADHD and discovering that was what was going on with me. Reading about narcissists and realising my ex was one. Scary.

Was the hairdresser PTA one where someone volunteered a voucher for the raffle on her behalf Shock.

I liked the one where someone had a holiday home abroad and neighbors had been using it without permission for years.

I dunno, I think eating a ball of raw lard and seeds is quite shocking. In a harmless way of course...but nevertheless, put the bird food down ffs.
It must have been disgusting.

Yes the OP contacted the school and said she couldn't honour it and that she had never agreed to it

The so called friend went batshit on her

What was the lemon drizzle cake thread about?

Report
BartonHollow · 18/01/2019 16:42

Offhand it was to do with some local country fayre Nazi type who was told to shove her lemon drizzle up her arse

Not shocking (sorry!) but my favourites of the threads I'm on are Hedge Sex (now in classics, I think) and two really great ones from a couple of summers ago where the OP was MoH for a Hen do and one of the BMs was insisting on bringing her children to the Hen (and wanted the bride's room for the duration). She turned out to be an MLM bot (as predicted by lots of posters. Not me). Those threads were hilarious.

I also enjoyed Shart Goblin in the summer of last year (also in classics, I think).

The reason snapped and farted was so funny was because she was complaining about being embarrassed by her boyfriend at her self-defence class, but she let one rip (due to her IBS) and posters were pointing out that this was more embarrassing than wearing an old t-shirt and baggy trackies.

Has no one yet mentioned Yoni or Pom Bears? they're my two funniest ones ever!

One of the threads I found really difficult was from a woman in a marriage, where the husband was allowed to beat her but it was all subject to religious rules - there’s a special name for this but I forget. The threads all got pulled.

The death of little fixing. I hope big fixing is well.

The worst one for me was the thread that was like confessions or "what's something you've done that's wrong?" type of thread, which got more and more sinister posts added in some fucked up, I'm-the-worst-one-here competition. Does anyone remember this? People admitting to animal abuse and all sorts. I think the thread got deleted in the end.

Report
LindaLa · 18/01/2019 16:46

The one where the OP met with so-called friends who then openly 'joked' about her sexual abuse history. Mumsnet pulled the thread as a few went troll hunting but it was reinstated.

Awful.

That's mine.
