Daughter kicked off bus aibu

Just wondered what everyone’s thoughts on this was? 17 year old daughter dropped off at the bus stop at 6.44 this morning, she had lost her lanyard with her bus pass on, so was going into college to get a temporary pass, we knew it was at home somewhere. Got on, sat down, the bus driver then asked to see everyone’s pass.. Doesn’t do this every day- specific bus only for her college.( 1st stop in the morning, last stop at night). obviously she didn’t have it, explained and he told her to get off the bus, she asked if she could just go to college and get a temporary pass. ( I know this is true as her friend told her mother the same ).

She then had to walk over a mile in the dark and rain, We had all left for work. also she has a broken arm, so had to carry bags as well. We have asked for an explanation from both the bus company and college, no reply from coach, but college have said the driver was correct!
I feel the coach company had a duty of care to make sure she was safe. What is everyone’s thoughts please?
Maybe a while getting back to everyone, going to the cinema now😊

hahahahahahaaa, that's hilarious!! Poor ickle thing, whoever reported that.

homeishere · 17/01/2019 14:45

He sounds like a right jobsworth, especially with that snarky comment after kicking her off.

I’d take it every day and make a point of sarcastically showing it to him every single day. Bell end.

tinytemper66 · 17/01/2019 14:50

I cannot find an update for today (Thursday) which is why I asked!

oh, so the bus comes round more than once a morning, does it? Or it'll wait while she walks 2 miles there and back to find her pass? I hadn't realised either of those things, my bad.

It's a bit odd to let someone get on the bus without asking for the pass but then ask for it when they sit down. The Op probably thought everything was fine when the dd sat down without a problem and so left. She could have driven her dd to college if the driver hadn't let her board the bus. That's what would really annoy me and that's where I'd focus my complaint.

Waspnest · 17/01/2019 15:13

My comment was in reply to NewModel's comment stating that the OP's daughter could walk that quickly if she had to get somewhere quickly (i.e. back home to find lost pass)

I don't think the OP thinks the walking a mile is an issue, more that chucking the girl off the bus at all was just horrible and I agree with her.

We don't know the OP's exact situation but it sounds a bit like ours. As I have previously said, DD's pass has been checked once this school year, that's once in roughly 160 journeys so yes in the OP's situation I probably would have assumed that as a one off it would be fine (as it happens DD did forget it once - she keeps it in her phone case and forget to take her phone because it was charging, we noticed it after she got home and she's been careful ever since) and anyway as I say our school would have sorted it when she got there. I agree the OP needs to clarify with the college what the procedure is if she does actually lose the bus pass.

MissEliza · 17/01/2019 15:18

When my ds took the college bus, he forgot his pass a couple of times and the driver had no problem as he recognised him. However if he had refused him, I would have understood.

sashh · 17/01/2019 15:31

There is one thing I don't really understand.

When I get on a bus I have to show my pass to the driver, it's automatic to just have it in my hand.

I have never come across a driver waiting until people are seated and then checking, surely the driver doesn't have time?

Aridane · 17/01/2019 15:32

*Tbh Op, I just think that it needs filing under unfortunate consequences•

Agree!

Waspnest · 17/01/2019 15:43

sash I think all the new Y7s probably do have their passes clutched in their hands for the first few days/weeks but when it's never checked they become complacent and have it shoved in their bags somewhere.

And yes on DD's bus the driver is in such a hurry that he's often driven off before she's sat down. Which is why I think the driver in the OP was being deliberately petty, letting her sit down and her mum drive off before demanding passes.

YABU

Get your shit together the night before kiddo!

That's what I told my DC when this happened.

bless you, Giant but I really doubt anyone who hasn't bothered to RTFT before offering their pearls of wisdom is going to bother with your post, but it's an excellent public service announcement. You're a better woman than me.

Bloomburger · 17/01/2019 15:55

Why ask the question if you're not going to take any notice of anyone who disagrees with you?

RiverTam · 17/01/2019 15:55

I daresay the OP is at work, actually working unlike me.

Aridane · 17/01/2019 15:59

@GoGoGadgetGin - didn’t you know that driver is a cunt with a hardon who failed school Smile ?

marcopront · 17/01/2019 16:52

All I’m saying is, he either should have checked before she boarded or let her on with a warning,

Can anyone explain to me why it is the driver's responsibility to check she has a pass but not the daughter's responsibility to say she hasn't got one?

MissingGeorgeMichael · 17/01/2019 17:00

When it all boils down to it, your dd took a chance to get on with no pass and it didn't work out. Lesson learnt - next time get your stuff together the night before Grin
