to think that May should resign

They survived the confidence votes but only by 19 votes. Surely she should go now?

I am guessing you know better than Chukka Ummah then because he has just admitted on live tv they don't yet have the numbers.

The BBC had the numbers - I got an alert on my phone.

@Danglingmod But, of course I'm not!

Phew! Grin
We agree about the referendum.

Numbers in HoC amongst MPs for the Peoples Vote @brizzledrizzle

I don’t think there’s anyone less incompetent to step into her Russell and Bromley pumps, so I’d rather she didn’t resign.

She didn’t make this mess in the first place- Cameron did. She isn’t doing much of a job of clearing it up, granted.

ScooterMum19 · 16/01/2019 20:17

I'm not completely up to speed with everything but I often wonder how tired she must be, is she getting much sleep and is her mental health good? She is in such a difficult position and it's not down to her, whoever went to the EU would have got the same outcome but she has taken on a brexit scapegoat role.

ScooterMum19 · 16/01/2019 20:19

Or am I wrong? What would Boris' or Corbyns Brexit look like? How could anyone have done better?

RedWineIsFabulous · 16/01/2019 20:20

sillysally

Yes well aware of that thanks. He lost by 197-40 . Hope that helps as well.

Well aware he was re elected - my point is that he never resigned at that time of the motion of no confidence vote within his own party and he LOST.

Hmm
badlydrawnperson · 16/01/2019 20:21

@ScooterMum19 I think you are right even though I don't vote Tory.

SillySallySingsSongs · 16/01/2019 20:24

RedWineIsFabulous

Not sure why you are having a pop at me I was agreeing with you. I quoted the person who said Labour MPs don't have no confidence votes when they do. Hmm

newnameforthis7 · 16/01/2019 20:27

People who think she should resign - despite winning, are the same ones who think we should have a second referendum on Brexit.

Sore losers who want to keep on repeating a poll or vote until they get the result they want.

THAT is not democracy.

May should stay.

In fact, anything that stops CORBYN in his tracks, and stops him becoming Prime Minister is OK with me. I would rather have Piers Morgan for PM than Jeremy Corbyn...

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 16/01/2019 20:27

it's not down to her

It is, really. She’s the one who chose the strategy of triggering article 50 before she’d figured out what there was a mandate for in terms of a deal. She’s the one that subsequently drew a set of intractable red lines that made negotiating a workable deal totally impossible.

SillySallySingsSongs · 16/01/2019 20:29

Which parliament agreed with.

Lets not forget Corbyn wanted to trigger article 50 the day after the referendum.

Parliament agreeing with it, doesn’t make the position she finds herself in less her fault though. ‘I suggested it, but they told me it was fine’ isn’t really a viable defence.

And she was quite happy to do it without the backing of Parliament, IIRC.

Unfinishedkitchen · 16/01/2019 20:41

You’re just jealous OP!

Nah! Only joking! Usually when someone slags another women off, no matter how despicable the woman is, someone will jump on to claim OP is jealous. Thought I’d throw it in to the mix.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 16/01/2019 20:42

Now, now joan. THere’s been a record defeat on her only major piece of legislation since that vote of no confidence. It’s exactly the sort of thing that makes you think you were wrong about your vote of no confidence.

MaMaMaMySharona · 16/01/2019 20:48

I think we should vote for our favourite celebrities to take the reins, why not throw something else in the mix?

I’m going with Eddie Izzard.

Unfinishedkitchen · 16/01/2019 20:48

May is pig headed and stubborn. Some people confuse this with being a strong leader. It actually demonstrates poor leadership. A cross party working group should’ve been set up from day one. They should have reached out to the best minds across the house and outside the house to sort this out in the best interests of the country.

However, the best interest of the country appear to be way down the list of priorities behind trying to placate the ERG who will never be happy until the country goes full Ayn Rand.

brizzledrizzle · 16/01/2019 20:50

The BBC alert on my phone said she won by 19.

RangeRider · 16/01/2019 20:52

It scares me that people are allowed to vote when they don't even know the difference between a vote of no confidence in the govt (in which all of the opposition will vote for on principle, hence the small majority) and a vote of no confidence in the PM herself (where the people voting are different and hence the majority will differ). There really should be a minimum IQ below which you don't get to vote. (It should also apply to MPs being elected - there would be a number of current MPs ineligible to stand!)

Unfinishedkitchen · 16/01/2019 20:53

Also Cameron is a cunt but May is responsible for the clusterfuck we are now in. I recall people screaming at her not to hand in the letter triggering Article 50 without a plan in place. There was no rush, nothing in law to say she had to do it so quickly but I recall her grandstanding at the conference and goading remainers whilst rushing to start the clock. She is not a victim here. She was desperate to be seen as Iron Lady mark II.

RangeRider · 16/01/2019 20:54

And can people trying to slag her off do her the courtesy of spelling her name correctly - Theresa, not Teresa. It's quite basic.

SillySallySingsSongs · 16/01/2019 20:54

The BBC alert on my phone said she won by 19.

If that is in resonse to me then it is nothing to do with the peoples vote which is what I quoted the pp about and that you said you had figures for from the BBC.

Today was a no confidence vote in the government which she won by 19.

Chloemol · 16/01/2019 20:55

No she’s had a tough job with a load of infighting mp’ s acting like a bunch of two year olds

Seniorschoolmum · 16/01/2019 21:03

Well said iamaweed it was a poisoned chalice from the start
