to think that May should resign

They survived the confidence votes but only by 19 votes. Surely she should go now?

Read my post again. It's physically impossible for Corbyn to have done even half of what she has done. And she is despicable.

Oh yes I forgot Saint Corbyn can't even decide what their policy actually is.

joystir59 · 16/01/2019 19:36

i am really happy with how its going. there is strong oposition to 'no deal' across the house and strong support for 'extending article 0' and 'people's vote'. Hopefully Brexit wont actually happen at this rate.

joystir59 · 16/01/2019 19:37

Does anyone know a Leaver who isn't full of rage

PlatypusPie · 16/01/2019 19:38

Gove gave his leadership speech right there

My DH’s words, exactly Mrs8 !

I am guessing you know better than Chukka Ummah then because he has just admitted on live tv they don't yet have the numbers.

Danglingmod · 16/01/2019 19:39

This thread proves why we should never have had the referendum in the first place and also why representative rather than direct democracy is the least worst way to run the country. Jeez, people don't even know the difference between a vote of confidence within a parliamentary party and one of the whole house in the government. I despair.

AmIAWeed · 16/01/2019 19:42

Dangling I think your comment is a little unfair
Politics is hard to grasp, especially when you compare to all the other systems across the globe. Lots is going on right now, probably more than most people have seen in this lifetime and unless things are 'happening' people don't tend to talk about politics.
I've found myself talking to my teenage children about what is happening and googling, checking some things. If people don't know help them understand, don't pull them down

Danglingmod · 16/01/2019 19:47

I know, I know. I'm in a foul mood tonight - with our politicians, to be fair. It just worries me that people know so little and yet have so many opinions. And social media promotes this ignorance, too. I stand by the comment that we should never have had the referendum.

brizzledrizzle · 16/01/2019 19:48

@Danglingmod Are you Teresa May?

OP posts:
CornishMaid1 · 16/01/2019 19:49

No she shouldn't go. Even if she hadn't won, there is no-one to do it.

Whether you like her or not, I do like the fact that she is trying and had a strong sense of duty.

The problem with Brexit is no-one knows what it should be and no-one can agree. The Brexit secretaries couldn't come up with anything and kept quitting so she had to come up with a plan.

There is no deal to be had. Leaving with no deal will badly affect the economy and jobs (which I find funny when a lot of those I know who voted leave are in those types of jobs that will be worse affected), she can't go back and say we will stay as that would cause uproar and and form of leaving with a deal is going to be worse than what we have already. It doesn't matter who it is in charge as they are not going to get this magic great deal.

She may have had a terrible plan, but at least she had a plan!

Ylvamoon · 16/01/2019 19:51

I don't think she should resign. But it should be time for Corbyn to go... he has lost, she has won.

Danglingmod · 16/01/2019 19:52

Brizzle - read my comment above (a sort of apology)... But, of course I'm not! How can you interpret my comment as approval or otherwise of May? I wasn't talking about her but (perhaps unreasonably) about people being unable to understand how these things work.

tillytrotter1 · 16/01/2019 19:53

If I were her I would resign, I'd say Sod the lot of you, I'm off, and be on the next flight to somewhere nice and warm.
She is in an impossible position, the EU want to dictate the terms but they won't negotiate, all they will do is refuse any plan put forward and that can go on forever or until the country leaves with no deal, which would be catastrophic. Those who voted Leave voted for nothing in the way of a plan, there were no discussions until after the vote,
Hopefully this will be the last time that such an important question is put to the electorate in a single issue referendum, were there a referendum on Capital Punishment it would probably win, do we want that?

tillytrotter1 · 16/01/2019 19:55

Survived by 19 votes

FinnegansWhiskers · 16/01/2019 19:59

Mrsr8

Gove gave his leadership speech right there

I never thought there words would ever come out of my mouth but...."Bloody Well Done Michael Gove! 👏👏👏 Amazing! You annihilated him! 🎉🎉🎉

Gove has just gone up in my estimation 😊 Who'd have thought he had it in him?

AmIAWeed · 16/01/2019 20:00

Tilly there was no argument when we voted in to the EU so logic would suggest there would be the same vote on if we remain.
Shame it isnt like a utility bill when you sign up on a deal and negotiate every few years!
I am pleased she hasn't resigned. I have no faith in whoever comes next and in this case it's better the devil you know.
Like her or loathe her - she's determined and no quitter. I like that quality

Rhubarbisevil · 16/01/2019 20:04

Even if she had survived by one vote then she would still have won. It’s called democracy. As they keep reminding us.

Menarefrommarsitwouldseem · 16/01/2019 20:05

**RedWineIsFabulous
Is that you Diane?

Grin
Menarefrommarsitwouldseem · 16/01/2019 20:06

The only person I believe should resign is loathsome Corbyn.

bellinisurge · 16/01/2019 20:06

Corbyn should go. The Tories will stick with her as long as that dick is "leader" of the Opposition.

BlackForestCake · 16/01/2019 20:07

So it’s ok for Corbyn in June 2016 to lose a motion of no confidence vote by his OWN Labour Party and IS STILL THERE yet May wins but should resign???

A confidence vote by Labour MPs is not how the Labour Party elects its leader. He is still there because he won a leadership election, which is how the Labour Party does elect its leader. Hope that helps.

TheToffeeTruckinTown · 16/01/2019 20:07

YABU. It would only make matters worse.

Corbyn should resign though, because I think however little confidence parliament has in May, it has even less in him. He should be pissing all over her by now and he's totally useless.

BearFoxBear · 16/01/2019 20:08

She should go. She has no self-awareness, no capacity for compromise and little to no respect. Which is why she won't go.

badlydrawnperson · 16/01/2019 20:09

The whole vote was a pointless waste of time and cash (tonight's no confidence vote). I say that as someone who didn't (and hasn't) voted Tory.

SillySallySingsSongs · 16/01/2019 20:10

Actually he did lose a no confidence vote with the PLP which is why it went to a leadership challenge.

May won hers with her MPs.
