onalongsabbatical - May I just congratulate you on your explanatory post? Exceedingly well put. Maybe too many big words and not enough pictures for the hard of thinking but very good nonetheless!

BejamNostalgia · 16/01/2019 16:19

This would be an absolutely pointless referendum and would lead to unrest because Leavers would not accept the vote. They would quite reasonably point out that a question formatted in that way would split the leave vote and give Remain a pass.

The only option which might work is transferable votes. So we ranked them by preference. The option with the least number of votes is eliminated, and those voters who had it as their no 1 option are counted for their no 2 preference instead.

"This is the same banks that said it would be a disaster to not join the euro,"
Which ones would those be? Got evidence of this?
If we're going to look at track records shall we remind ourselves who is promoting Brexit? However there was never a consensus amongst banks, and a large number of different organisations that are anti brexit were also anti EU.

There is a consensus across industry, government and academia that Brexit will leave us worse off.

"Ah, I see you think neo liberal is an evil thing, and still trying to square that with bein pro EU"

Didn't say that.

Being pro EU and not being in favour of very neo liberal policies can go hand in hand to be fair.

Some neo liberal policies can be good, some aren't. The ones favoured by Minford and the IEA certainly are not.

Interesting replies. Can’t get my head around the amount of no deals.

OP posts:
Blarblarblar · 16/01/2019 17:47

Remain
Why why why no deal Shock. How can being trumps bitch be anyone’s best option.

MyOtherProfile · 16/01/2019 20:11

@snurguzelly you misunderstood my post. I was asking why most academics want remain. It's not to do with party politics but because they are used to doing research.

Ragaroo · 16/01/2019 20:20

No deal.

Footloose80 · 16/01/2019 20:22

Remain if this was still possible but if not deal

Severide08 · 16/01/2019 22:14

No Deal .

Only way to get our voices heard now is via petitions!

More people that sign the higher the chance they will actually take note!

ragged · 16/01/2019 22:24

There isn't such a thing as Theresa's deal. The language is all wrong.
There is May's WA.
Whatever happens, we need a WA before any deal can be made.
May says all these things & most don't listen.

The options need to be:

May's WA
No WA
Remain

Whatever future comes, we will never get a 'deal' with EU until after a WA has been sorted out. May says all this... and still people talk about 'deal' when they actually mean WA and forget that a WA has to happen before a 'deal' can start to be negotiated. Pah.

TheGlitterFairy · 16/01/2019 22:25

Remain.

Ffsnosexallowed · 16/01/2019 22:30

I have absolutely no idea why anyone sane would think that no deal was a better option than remain. The country has gone mad.

Severide08 · 16/01/2019 22:41

Ffsnosexallowed you are going to get those who like me want a no deal. I dont want to remain but you cant question people's sanity because they dont agree with you .

girlandboy · 16/01/2019 22:46

No deal no deal no deal

GreenDinosaur · 16/01/2019 22:49

No deal.

Tanfastic · 16/01/2019 22:53

No deal

girlandboy · 16/01/2019 22:55

Ffsnosexallowed Bit rude aren't you? I'm perfectly sane thanks. I might think what you're proposing to vote is insane, but I'm not rude enough to say that.

EustaciaPieface · 16/01/2019 22:58

Remain

MrsDoylesTea · 16/01/2019 22:58

No deal

caringcarer · 16/01/2019 23:21

I would vote no deal. On Gransnet today someone asked the question has anyone changed the way they voted first time. A lot of responses with all leave voters saying they would vote leave again. Most remain voters would vote remain again but 5 remain voters would now vote leave. I really don't think many have changed their mind. Most leave voters would want deal if it was good deal but unless given full details of deal safer to vote no deal and get on with forming trade deals with other countries.

caringcarer · 16/01/2019 23:31

The reason many academics want remain is because they benefit from EU handouts on grants etc.i would rather we spend UK tax money on more important things.

ShadyLady53 · 17/01/2019 00:03

@caringcarer Hmm I teach in a university...you do realise those “handouts” you refer to fund research don’t you? You call yourself “caring carer” so I’m assuming you want medical research to continue being funded? Pharmaceutical research, science research, engineering etc. Not just that but research into how to best prevent terrorism or cyberattacks, how to save the planet from global warming, things that will keep us safe and stop people from dying needlessly.

Or do you just want research into science, environment and technology to completely come to a halt in this country?

Girlicorne · 17/01/2019 00:15

Remain, as I voted first time around. I don't think there should be a second referendum though, to go back on the original decision to leave would be a fundamental blow to democracy which is so important within our society. It strikes me as being a bit 'let's keep voting until everyone agrees to remain'. I want to remain but leaving was the decision of the majority.

I understand a lot of people, especially leavers feel they were misinformed, but when making political decisions it needs to be considered and thought through. People shouldn't trust what politicians say, they lie and misinform to get what they want. People should have weighed up their leave/remain decision given the facts and assessing the validity of the propaganda. I m not sure what the answer is to the whole mess though! !!:

caringcarer · 17/01/2019 01:46

Pharmaceutical companies are very rich and can afford to pay for their own research. They do not need handouts from EU as well you must know. There is funding for counter terrorism from government. We have children living in poverty and elderly who cannot afford heating even when snowing so no, EU taking so much of our money and then handing some back to projects they select such as university research is not something i would vote for. However it makes sense those gaining from EU think it is wonderful. I think when Barnier waste money on chartering private jets it is disgusting. I expect airline he charters jet from likes him.
