Have you seen the new Gillette advert?

It's in line with the #metoo movement and it's just brilliant.

Reaction online is depressing though. It has pissed Piers Morgan off royally though, so that's excellent. Poor little snowflake. Offended at an advert Grin

The law. HTH.

Not really, just shows what kind of person you are. HTH

I am so pleased that my boys will be told again that their masculinity is toxic

No...... toxic masculinity (bullying, violence, macho bullshit) is toxic. This advert is saying, "Hey, look, POSITIVE MASCULINITY. Strength of character, bravery, standing up for others." Wouldn't you like your boys to be told that?

Exactly right - if you define masculinity as a set of characteristics which are inappropriate - then be expected to be called out on how you are raising your boys...

If however, you define masculinity as being boys and being the best person they can be in society and for the skills / etc. they have then you need not fear, this advert is supporting that view of masculinity...

previousWeight · 15/01/2019 17:25

@LoadOfUtterBoswellock

"No. Toxic masculinity is to blame for rape and murder."

There isn't a shred of evidence.

@ChesterGreySideboard

"I think the fact that so many men are getting pissy about the message of ‘don’t be a dick’ speaks volumes."

I think white men are bored and frustrated. No other class of person is expected to be responsible for the actions of a tiny minority of their members. As a lesbian, I don't feel even slightly responsible for the fact that DV in lesbian relationships is higher than any other relationship. As a black mother, I'm not expected to 'call out' other blacks for the fact that they commit 3x the crime of caucasians.

Drogosnextwife · 15/01/2019 17:25

Don't really think the law does state that anyone has a right to comment on anyone's appearance, just the right to free speech, which means you can say what you like, doesn't make it ok.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 15/01/2019 17:28

Made me feel emotional

I have one ds and feel very proud when he comes out with there are no such toys as girls or boys toys they are toys for all children

previousWeight · 15/01/2019 17:28

@LoadOfUtterBoswellocks

"What law's that then?"

Most laws in the UK concern what we can't do as opposed to allowed actions.

I'm not sure what an "automatic right" is compared to a "right" but yes, that one.

People can comment on another's appearance without fear of legal repercussions (in most cases). If you think that this should be controlled by law then, well, fuck you.

What law do you think is being broken?

Yabbers · 15/01/2019 17:29

Gillette: men, don’t be a dick
Men: yeah, good message
Women: yeah, good message
Dicks: How dare they! We’ll be dicks if we want to be dicks.

LoadOfUtterBoswellocks · 15/01/2019 17:30

No other class of person is expected to be responsible for the actions of a tiny minority of their members.

I just...I can't even...

Yabbers · 15/01/2019 17:31

No other class of person is expected to be responsible for the actions of a tiny minority of their members

I think Muslims might disagree with you on that. Oh, and young black men. Let’s not forget teenagers generally tarred with the same brush.

The difference is, given the number of women who #metoo, I suspect that minority isn’t as tiny as you think.

previousWeight · 15/01/2019 17:31

"I just...I can't even..."

Clearly.

I get the feeling you usually try to power on through though, even when you ... shouldn't.

LoadOfUtterBoswellocks · 15/01/2019 17:32

I'm not sure what an "automatic right" is compared to a "right" but yes, that one.

Ah, another energetic foray into the wilderness of deliberate ignorance. Someone asked you what gave men the AUTOMATIC RIGHT to comment on women's appearance. And you said the law gave them that automatic right. That is not the case. The law says they are ABLE to comment on anything. It does not give them an automatic right.

Look, I'd explain this to you again but I've run out of crayons.

previousWeight · 15/01/2019 17:34

@LoadOfUtterBoswellocks

I get the feeling you've eaten the crayons.

Christ!

You're yet to explain anything.

"And you said the law gave them that automatic right. That is not the case. The law says they are ABLE to comment on anything."

What?

LoadOfUtterBoswellocks · 15/01/2019 17:35

Even when I shouldn't? Shouldn't what? Point out that saying, "Men can be brave and kind and caring and supportive, isn't that great?" is a positive thing?
Advert says, "Men can be so great, let's teach our boys about being great men". I don't love the ad, but I can't get angry about a message like that.

LoadOfUtterBoswellocks · 15/01/2019 17:39

And you said the law gave them that automatic right. That is not the case. The law says they are ABLE to comment on anything. What?

OK. In the absence of a diagram.

PP says, "What gives men the automatic right to comment on women?"
You said, "The law"
We said, "What law gives men this automatic right?"
You mentioned free speech etc.
I said, "This law says men are able (via free speech) to comment on anything. What this law does NOT do is confer an automatic right to comment on women"
You said, "What?"

previousWeight · 15/01/2019 17:39

"Shouldn't what?"

Attempt to explain or argue a standpoint. You''re really not doing well.

"Advert says, "Men can be so great"

That's your interpretation. My interpretation was, "phew, a big black man saving us from gammons".

previousWeight · 15/01/2019 17:41

"You mentioned free speech etc."

No I didn't. The good thing about my posts is they're still there for you to go back and read a little more carefully. I think you're confused, dear.

Anyway, bugger this. I've had enough of teenagers for one day.

JacquesHammer · 15/01/2019 17:43

I am so pleased that my boys will be told again that their masculinity is toxic

The advert is literally celebrating positive masculinity...Confused

Drogosnextwife · 15/01/2019 17:46

The definition of automatic right, just for you previousWeight. How old are you? Strange that you have never heard that phrase before.

*automatic rightnoun

a right that is "built in", that you do not have to request, apply for or register.

"There is noautomatic rightto a refund."*

Drogosnextwife · 15/01/2019 17:46

HTH

gluteustothemaximus · 15/01/2019 17:46

I think you're confused, dear.

And there's the misogynist. But I knew that from the other posts.

OP posts:
Drogosnextwife · 15/01/2019 17:47

The advert is literally celebrating positive masculinity...

That seems to have went straight over some people's heads 🙄. Or perhaps they are being deliberatley obtuse in an attempt to play the victim.

previousWeight · 15/01/2019 17:48

"And there's the misogynist."

and there's the ever-lowering bar of what will trigger.

previousWeight · 15/01/2019 17:50

"deliberatley"

"have went"

🙄

Drogosnextwife · 15/01/2019 17:50

Anyway, bugger this. I've had enough of teenagers for one day.

At school? I did suspect you were quite young.

CheshireChat · 15/01/2019 17:52

The fact that so many men have commented with 'you are property', 'go make me a sandwich/ get back in the kitchen' and have colluded female toxicity with obesity (only women of course) kinda proves this is still very much an issue.
