Have you seen the new Gillette advert?

It's in line with the #metoo movement and it's just brilliant.

Reaction online is depressing though. It has pissed Piers Morgan off royally though, so that's excellent. Poor little snowflake. Offended at an advert Grin

I thought it was cheesy and ramming the message home. The things that abusive men do were never okay. Because of making abusers accountable is now on trend and in the media they've jumped on the bandwagon. I think it's a cynical ploy using the voice of victims to sell their products.

👏 you spotted a couple of mistakes, bravo. Clearly you are very intelligent. Perhaps before pointing out people's mistakes you should consider why they might be making them.

drogo

Having your grammar and spelling corrected is usually a good sign Grin

Drogosnextwife · 15/01/2019 18:01

😂 thanks, I have noticed before that people seem to turn to correcting S&G when they feel defeated, and then the inevitable "I'm bowing out now" shortly after.

gluteustothemaximus · 15/01/2019 18:08

Rufus is right, it is a good sign Grin

And yet they weren’t intelligent enough to get the ad. Made themselves look an utter ninny to be honest.

IfNotNowThenWhy · 15/01/2019 18:10

It's a bit confusing how a fairly bland ad saying "it's not ok to leer at women and beat people up" is somehow attacking all white men..?! Wtf?
I don't think anyone has said that boys shouldn't run around or do rough and tumble stuff? They're kids. Kids do that.
It's fairly straightforward:
A razor company has made an ad supporting thd idea that there is more than one way to be manly, and that oppressive behaviour towards those who are weaker should be addressed -by men- because that has not generally been the norm.
Generally men turn a blind eye or say it's all women's fault.
So, good. Hooray for men.
Fucksake, someone saying " you don't have to act like a 1970s throwback" is hardly the same as having your knackers removed with a rusty blade.
God, can you imagine the whining if men had to deal with a tenth of what most women deal with in their lifetimes if this is the reaction to a gentle ad ?

Clionba · 15/01/2019 18:13

Piers Morgan was absolutely incandescent with rage this morning on GMB, and wrote a suitably heated piece for the DM!
Good work, Gillette!!

Oh fuck, YES.

Well thats a bonus

Pumperthepumper · 15/01/2019 18:16

It is a bit cheesy and very un-subtle, but I don’t care because I love it. It feels like a very small step towards something so positive.

whatnow123 · 15/01/2019 18:18

The advert is patronising.

It tiresome to have to be associated with people you don't know, because you share the same sex, religion or skin colour.

BejamNostalgia · 15/01/2019 18:21

MiceSqueakCatsMeow. I agree with you. I also don’t like the message that men will do this now that Gillette’s marketing department has told them it’s okay. Not just because it is the right, human and decent way to behave.

As far as marketing goes, it’s a shit move. Regardless of whether or not MNers approve of the message, it’s not aimed at us. Telling your customer base that most of them are bastards, abusers and criminals is a bad, bad move. It’s like Ratner calling all his products shit except with the customers.

It’s a basic marketing fail. Marketing needs to appeal to those who purchase the product, and in this case, it’s misfiring badly as it’s only really approved of by groups who are a minority of their customers. Bad, bad move.

User758172 · 15/01/2019 18:21

I think it’s awful. Would hate to be a man nowadays. Makes me ashamed to be a women. Gillette are there to sell razors, not pontificate about moral or social issues.

BejamNostalgia · 15/01/2019 18:23

I doubt anybody who harasses or abuses people will be changed by that ad. It will annoy men who’ve quietly done exactly that for years. It’s like when women’s cosmetics companies tell us that we can do sport or be clever - patronising.

User758172 · 15/01/2019 18:24

I doubt anybody who harasses or abuses people will be changed by that ad

No, and it insults the vast majority of men who don’t behave that way and don’t need Gillette to patronise them or tell them how to behave like a decent human being.

TheGonnagle · 15/01/2019 18:24

Brilliant. Made me cry though...

IfNotNowThenWhy · 15/01/2019 18:25

Yeah. It must be awful to be a man now, with these vicious adverts celebrating men being decent.
Thank God we are women and only have to deal with rape threats when we go into public life, or even just express an opinion in public. Poor men.

User758172 · 15/01/2019 18:27

Yep, poor men.

Bumbledop · 15/01/2019 18:29

Excellent. I think it’s powerful, I love it.

JacquesHammer · 15/01/2019 18:30

No, and it insults the vast majority of men who don’t behave that way and don’t need Gillette to patronise them or tell them how to behave like a decent human being

You’d have to be fairly fragile to be insulted by that ad. All the men I’ve spoken to think it’s fantastic.

Aveeno2017 · 15/01/2019 18:31

Great Ad.....but could we pay the same price for the actual razors as men..

Blessthekids · 15/01/2019 18:32

Honestly, its just a fecking advert, anybody want a vegan sausage roll?

IfNotNowThenWhy · 15/01/2019 18:34

I buy mens razors to shave my legs. I can't see the difference tbh.

User758172 · 15/01/2019 18:38

You’d have to be fairly fragile to be insulted

Let’s judge other groups in society by their worst elements then. How about an advert featuring Muslim men advising their brothers not to commit acts of terrorism? There’s be plenty of people feeling ‘fragile’ about that Hmm
