Have you seen the new Gillette advert?

It's in line with the #metoo movement and it's just brilliant.

Reaction online is depressing though. It has pissed Piers Morgan off royally though, so that's excellent. Poor little snowflake. Offended at an advert Grin

Fake faces, fake tans, fake nails, fake tits, which they're not adverse to having half out, yet they complain when a man says anything.
You want men to be brought up to respect women, yet half of those women don't respect themselves!
Double bloody standards. So no, I don't buy into the feminist crap.

Even if SOME woman do have fake everything, what make you think men automatically have the right to say anything? What a load of bullshit!

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 15/01/2019 16:18

I think it's a good thing. Cynical marketing definitely but still positive.

The thing is the slogan the best a man can get - could look dated and misogynistic. They've spun it so they can still use the slogan and have dissociated it from those connotations.

And it pisses of Piers Morgan. The best a woman can get Grin

Bluelady · 15/01/2019 16:20

The best anyone can get. An ad that pisses Piers off is a sure winner.

Drogosnextwife · 15/01/2019 16:21

That really is the definition of victim blaming there Ifangyow 👏

gluteustothemaximus · 15/01/2019 16:26

This is piers morgan's mindset NEW: Let's be clear: gillette now wants every man to take one of their razors & cut off his testicles.

How DO you get THAT from their advert??? By treating women with respect, and calling men out on bad behaviour, we have somehow emasculated men?

Confused

Drogosnextwife.
There is.
Just the same as some women on here drool over the latest actor/singer. As I said, double standards.

SapphireSeptember · 15/01/2019 16:30

So basically saying 'boys should be boys and girls should be girls' is utterly meaningless pap then? People are just free to be whoever they want as long as they don't infringe on others' rights or bodily autonomy?

GoofyIsACow · 15/01/2019 16:33

I’m so glad i found this thread, i thought i was missing something, i couldn’t find a single positive comment whilst i was thinking how brilliant it was!!

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 15/01/2019 16:34

It's years since I studied psychology and I've forgotten the name of the studies, but I recall that psychologists demonstrated that people were more likely to stop and help at, say a car breakdown, if they had recently witnessed someone else offering assistance.

It's good to see an advert modelling good behaviour.

Drogosnextwife · 15/01/2019 16:38

So men aren't allowed to be attracted to famous people? Is that what your saying? That woman find it offensive of they find a woman attractive?... really we don't, what we find offensive is sleazy misogynistic, derogatory terms that some men use towards woman, either when they are attracted to them or they just see woman as an object.

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 15/01/2019 16:49

It's unbelievable that an ad who's general message is "guys, don't act like an arsehole, if you see someone being an arsehole stop them, be a good role model to boys" has so much dislike.

Ok, you might not be an arsehole per se and good for you but to not even acknowledge there ARE arseholes out there, they need telling and as their peers it's you they're most likely to listen to...if you'd rather argue the toss about what a great bloke you are therefore all blokes are great then maybe you aren't so great after all.

And it's pissed off Piers Papoose Hating Morgan, yay!

Drogosnextwife · 15/01/2019 16:50

Also you didn't answer my original question. What make you think men have an automatic right to comment on any woman's appearance or choice on what to do with her body?

previousWeight · 15/01/2019 16:57

I am so pleased that my boys will be told again that their masculinity is toxic. It simply can't happen enough.

Especially as they're white (watch the video again and watch for race of the actors).

I am looking forward to Tampax adverts dealing with toxic femininity.

Alternatively, this is what happens when a feminist millennial gets some kind of authority in the marketing dept and gammons are afraid of telling the the Magnum they don't like the idea for fear of reprisals.

previousWeight · 15/01/2019 16:57

"What make you think men have an automatic right to comment on any woman's appearance or choice on what to do with her body?"

The law. HTH.

Ifangyow · 15/01/2019 16:57

In answer to your original question.
They have as much right as anyone else.

velourvoyageur · 15/01/2019 17:10

Really not sure what form 'toxic femininity' would take, but pretty sure people are not being raped and killed as a result of it. So think Tampax should maybe save their ££.

previousWeight · 15/01/2019 17:14

@velourvoyageur

I assume you're implying that masculinity is somehow to blame for rape and murder. There's not a shred of evidence that this is the case. Anyone with the vaguest understanding of gender studies knows how meaningless fact are, I guess.

I think that Tampax portrays an unhealthy version of femininity. I can't dance or roller skate or jump around with my friends as we wear flowery dresses.

previousWeight · 15/01/2019 17:16

Oh, and toxic femininity is the bitching and undercurrent of passive-aggressive one-upmanship demonstrably more apparent in female-female interactions.

LoadOfUtterBoswellocks · 15/01/2019 17:18

I am so pleased that my boys will be told again that their masculinity is toxic

No...... toxic masculinity (bullying, violence, macho bullshit) is toxic. This advert is saying, "Hey, look, POSITIVE MASCULINITY. Strength of character, bravery, standing up for others." Wouldn't you like your boys to be told that?

ChesterGreySideboard · 15/01/2019 17:20

They can do one as a company, and DH has a beard anyway so they don’t get through the door here.

But

I loved the ad. It made me cry too. I think the fact that so many men are getting pissy about the message of ‘don’t be a dick’ speaks volumes.

LoadOfUtterBoswellocks · 15/01/2019 17:20

masculinity is somehow to blame for rape and murder.

No. Toxic masculinity is to blame for rape and murder.

Positive masculinity is about standing up to a violent society.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 15/01/2019 17:21

load

Ill admit im struggling to see how that message will be bad for my boys to hear

Luckily they have a strong sense of right and wrong (too strong in ds1 case)

ChesterGreySideboard · 15/01/2019 17:21

I can’t remember the last time I saw a tampon ad like that.

*"What make you think men have an automatic right to comment on any woman's appearance or choice on what to do with her body?"

The law. HTH.*

What law's that then? The one that enshrines men's automatic right to comment on women's appearances?
