Have you seen the new Gillette advert?

It's in line with the #metoo movement and it's just brilliant.

Reaction online is depressing though. It has pissed Piers Morgan off royally though, so that's excellent. Poor little snowflake. Offended at an advert Grin

Oh good. Another pathetic straw man to back up namalt.

Pretty much showing why we need ads like this

derxa · 15/01/2019 18:40

I shall be expecting a bladder leak pad ads which point out toxic female behaviours soon.

TopBitchoftheWitches · 15/01/2019 18:40

The poor menz being called out for their shitty behaviour and they don't like it so launch a load more abuse at women. Grin idiots.

greathat · 15/01/2019 18:42

Love it!

JacquesHammer · 15/01/2019 18:42

Someone should have patented the phrase “well actually..”

They’d have made a killing

5pmsomewhere · 15/01/2019 18:45

I love this advert. It make me well up.

meow1989 · 15/01/2019 18:46

I'm slightly uncomfortable about using an important message to sell products, but Actually after watching the advert I think it's very well done.

whatnow123 · 15/01/2019 18:50

JacquesHammer Why is it a strawman?

HeathRobinson · 15/01/2019 18:56

Excellent!

Drogosnextwife · 15/01/2019 19:04

Let’s judge other groups in society by their worst elements then. How about an advert featuring Muslim men advising their brothers not to commit acts of terrorism? There’s be plenty of people feeling ‘fragile’ about that*

That ad is aimed at all men, that includes muslim men, christian men, jewish men etc. It has nothing to do with race, so you can't really compare an advert aimed at the entire male population of to a hypothetical advert only aimed at Muslim men.

Limensoda · 15/01/2019 19:07

I don't get why so many men see this advert as ' further evidence' that there's a hate campaign against men??!!
Piers Morgan wants to know what's wrong with being masculine??!!
Are they being deliberately thick?

Jux · 15/01/2019 19:11

Does it insult the vast majority of men who don't behave that way, though? The vast majoity of men don't rape or leer or bully or beat up etc, but the advert isn't saying they do. It is aimed at the vast majority of men who don't do that stuff encouraging them to intervene to encourage more men (and boys) to behave better.

It's not insulting men at all, it's saying most of you are great and you can help to make others behave better.

It's making intervention to prevent crap behaviour more acceptable. That's a good thing isn't it? It's implying that most men have the courage to stand up for their convictions about respectful behaviour and that it's OK for them to do so.

Well, that's what I saw.

Limensoda · 15/01/2019 19:12

Gillette: men, don’t be a dick
Men: yeah, good message
Women: yeah, good message
Dicks: How dare they! We’ll be dicks if we want to be dicks

PLEASE Tweet that to Piers Morgan! Grin

DitheringBlidiot · 15/01/2019 19:16

@chesntoots - the sad thing is we still have to bring a man into it, they can’t respect that women are human beings they have to be boiled down to someone’s daughter etc.

I love the advert! Bravo!

Drogosnextwife · 15/01/2019 19:19

I think it's pointing out that for too long misogynistic views have been accepted as a normal attitude for men to have. It's encouraging people who don't think like that to speak up and say what the think.

miyajima90 · 15/01/2019 19:22

I thought this was wonderful and it actually choked me up!

I am furious / shocked and depressed by the level of outrage.

Change is harder than we think...?

whatnow123 · 15/01/2019 19:31

Limensoda

So what next. McDonalds doing ads saying to white people "Don't be racists"

Amazon doing ads saying "Don't be homophobic"

Netflix - "Don't be transphobic"

Most would agree those things are bad. Do we need multi national companies preaching about them.

OnlineAlienator · 15/01/2019 19:33

Unless being shitty is a vital part of masculinity piers morgan's argument makes no sense Hmm

Birdsgottafly · 15/01/2019 19:53

whatnow123, did you miss the Coke multi-cultural marketing, United colours of Benetton etc?

The Adverts that support 'all types of families' and those that feature anti homophobic bullying?

It's about time that Women's right to live in peace was addressed.

Toxic masculinity kills as many Men as it does Women.

This advert isn't raking sides, or against anyone. It's for everyone.

Buddytheelf85 · 15/01/2019 19:59

I think it’s a great advert. I’m amazed by the scale and the viciousness of the backlash against it - why? But I suppose that shouldn’t really shock me - that woman who campaigned for a woman to feature on banknotes received rape and death threats for it. Hell hath no fury like a misogynist called out on his behaviour!

NorthernLurker · 15/01/2019 20:05

I think it's great. I found it moved me, to my surprise, because I'd read about it and was very much expecting the line. The backlash proves the point.
Seriously guys, you're against compassion, kindness and fairness? Hmm

Drogosnextwife · 15/01/2019 20:19

*So what next. McDonalds doing ads saying to white people "Don't be racists"

Amazon doing ads saying "Don't be homophobic"

Netflix - "Don't be transphobic"*

Well probably not because McDonald's products are not specifically aimed at white people.
Amazon products are not specifically aimed at straight people.
Netflix isn't specifically aimed at non trans people.

Drogosnextwife · 15/01/2019 20:20

That advert is promoting a product specifically aimed at men, it wouldn't really work for the others.

ItsalmostSummer · 15/01/2019 20:21

It’s really good and men who get upset about it are twats. They want to keep women in their place. Seriously this is a great way to bring change.

ZenNudist · 15/01/2019 20:23

I think it makes a real impact.
