I think I have a cf

So we live in a cul de sac and facing the road is our driveway and side garden. Front door is on the other side. For a few weeks I’ve been noticing the same car driving up blocking the dropped kerb for our drive and a lady getting out and having a fag sitting on our garden wall.
That’s fine, I haven’t needed to go out when she’s been there. Her habit isn’t affecting me.
This week I was picking up the dogs mess and noticed that there’s tons of fag butts in my garden. She’s obviously just been slinging them over the fence.
Today I waited till she arrived and I went out to her to ask her to take her rubbish with her and not throw them in my garden. She told me to get fucked and she will do what she likes.
I didn’t really have any comeback for that so scuttled back inside.
Being both a coward and a nosy bitch I jotted down her car reg. Lo and behold the DVLA website says it’s not mot’d.
WIBU to tip off whoever enforces those things next time I spot her? She’s pretty regular time wise.

Only just come across this thread. MIL is amazing! I want to have the balls to do that when I grow up!

I suspect if she's a secret smoker she'll have had to do the walk of shame when she got home, stinking of smelly day old GFW!

curlilox · 15/01/2019 17:05

I have tried reporting a car without MOT left outside our house for weeks. I have tried the DVLA, the police and the local council. They all keep passing the buck. Nobody is interested. Confused However the local council might be interested if you report the reg number for littering.

PoutySprout · 15/01/2019 18:04

There’s no law against keeping a non-MOTed car on the road.

Boulty · 15/01/2019 18:13

Yes report her. If she was in a crash her insurance (if she has any) would be invalid - think of the other poor motorist.

Allergictoironing · 15/01/2019 18:13

However there IS a law about driving it, and the OP has said that the CF drives the car to outside her house, has her fag, then drives off again. The only exceptions are for driving to or from an MoT test or for repairs, which I doubt the CF is doing daily for weeks.

You should hire out your MIL. She'd make a fortune.

No MOT does not automatically invalidate your insurance, no matter how many times it gets said on here.

Mil is rather good - she’s tarnished Sunday’s halo by letting herself in this morning and frightening the bejeezus out of me- didn’t hear her come in and she lept out of the utility as I was pouring a coffee. Seems she’s been keeping an eye out for cf retaliation. We’ve been in work so haven’t noticed. I had thought that the house was suspiciously clean so I’m going to milk the cf situation for as long as possible. I’ve shown her your comments and she’s delighted with herself. I fully expect her to bully fil into helping her make a Mumsnet account 😂 Thanks all for helping lighten up our awkward situation

MrsBombastic · 15/01/2019 19:33

Dob that CF in.

No question.

MrsBombastic · 15/01/2019 19:38

Just read what your MIL did: tell her from me that she's a effing legend!

I'm telling my best Scouse mate this story.Grin

@Ourmaud
letting herself in this morning and frightening the bejeezus out of me- didn’t hear her come in and she lept out of the utility as I was pouring a coffee.

Mine does this..... and then complains that I frightened her....
excuse me, I live here and am entitled to move around the house without announcing my presence in advance.

Ourmaud · 15/01/2019 21:43

@LadyinLavende it’s an occupational hazard with her- she does like to “surprise clean” but I’m far too lazy and therefore grateful for the help to moan about boundaries and personal space although I know it is a hot topic on Mumsnet about mils interfering and overstepping.

Hi Ourmaud’s Mil! 🙋🏻‍♀️

SherbrookeFosterer · 16/01/2019 01:55

YANBU - also a thick layer of wet cement on your garden wall will encourage her to find another location for her cigarette break.

dusky777 · 16/01/2019 08:15

I can confirm that no MOT does not invalidate insurance! Recently bumped into someone and they had no MOT but have still managed to claim against me and have her car repaired and claim whip lash!

@poutysprout what damage?

OP posts:
Toooldtocareanymore · 16/01/2019 12:04

i'd have a garden hose out at my own fence the minute I saw smoke

PoutySprout · 16/01/2019 13:09

dusky said she had bumped into someone and seemed to imply that their lack of MOT should mean they couldn’t claim the damage from her.

AuditAngel · 16/01/2019 19:23

Ourmaud perhaps you could set her up a MN account as a thank you

everydaymum · 17/01/2019 04:49

A driver without MOT can claim against someone else because it's the other driver's insurance they're claiming against. If the driver without MOT was at fault their insurer would likely not cover any claims made against that policy.

CanuckBC · 17/01/2019 06:21

Wait to go MIL! Hopefully shut her down for good. Please let us know if anything else happens😁
