To think takeaway pizza at a 4 year old’s party is an odd choice?

Just that really. I’m not especially neurotic about what my kids eat. I’m happy for them to have the odd happy meal every couple of months or the occasional chocolate biscuit. But a pile of dominoes pizza at a party in a hall just seems a little much.?

I’m fully prepared to accept it if I’m being unreasonable because I can’t quite put my finger on why I wasn’t keen on this. Maybe it’s the salt. Anyway daughter is now asking for the same thing at her party next week and I’m really not sure.

Deliqueen, when DS1 was small McDonalds was the gold standard of birthday parties! You used to get a happy meal and a bag of tat for each guest plus entertainment and cake ceremony. I notice this is no longer offered.

treaclesoda · 12/01/2019 18:18

IF you have the time, IF you have the money, IF you have the opportunity, etc etc.

That doesn't make much sense to me because the food is the same whether it is served up by a middle class parent who is just being 'lazy' or whether it's being served up by someone who is desperately poor and has been stockpiling the cheapest frozen food for six months in order to give their child a party.

SheepyFun · 12/01/2019 18:20

This is a great idea for DD's next party! Most of her parties have been at home, with DH and I organising the games. The food has to be completely ready beforehand; we don't have an extra person to be in the kitchen during the party, so supermarket (or homemade) pizzas would be cold. We've done sandwiches before, but as others have pointed out, they aren't any better nutritionally, and DD loves pizza.

Redcrayonisthebest · 12/01/2019 18:24

Blushoh I've done pizza not Dominoes I can't afford it for ds' 5th and 6th parties. It's easy and kids eat it. Let's face it nobody goes to a children's party expecting to consume their five a day do they?

Rubusfruticosus · 12/01/2019 18:25

I would think that takeaway pizza would be difficult and messy for many three and four year olds to eat. Smaller, closer to bite size, foods would be more appropriate for this age group.

adaline · 12/01/2019 18:31

I serve normal stuff for kids like tuna sandwiches and quavers and fairy cakes. I am not a neurotic pain

But fairy cakes and quavers aren't especially healthy either! So why draw the line at pizza?

Mrsfrumble · 12/01/2019 18:31

I agree that Dominio’s pizzas are crap and I wouldn’t eat them or feed them to my children except at birthday parties. Then they are bloody amazing! The children scramble down off the soft play equipment, scoff a slice and then return to climbing and screaming at the top of their lungs, while the starving adults (who missed lunch because they were busy blowing up balloons) hoover up the leftovers. Boxes go in the recycling. No waste, no prep, no washing up!

*Children don't tend to binge do they? They just eat a few things then run off and play.

Bingeing is what adults do when they are seeking comfort in food, trying to eat their emotions so to speak.*

Also, I’m glad someone else said this. Adults projecting their own messed up relationships with food onto kids.

SaucyJack · 12/01/2019 18:31

“Everyone in the world loves a big, dirty Domino's pizza occasionally, though.”

Um, no. They don’t.

I hate soggy takeaway pizza, and I’m not a food snob at all.

Gis a proper wood-fired pizza with a crispy base- or go away.

Cannot stand that greasy glorified cheese on warm bread Domino’s have the nerve to charge £20 for.

One of my dds went to a party where a Happy Meal menu was included in the invite, to be filled in and returned before the party, Halfway through the party the food was collected from McDs by some dads, All the children (and us adults) realised the bar had been raised several notches. All following party invitations for the year were ripped open in the hope of finding a menu!

Aeroflotgirl · 12/01/2019 18:37

At the end of the day, you have to have some perspective, it is one small meal in the grand scheme of things, it is not like your child is going to have it all the time. Party food is meant to be enticing to kids, it is form s a big part of the party and the enjoyment of it. Feeding children Falefel, hummus and Qinoa, is not going to cut it for most kids. Maybe the parents did not want the faff of making sandwhiches, rolls, bits and pieces, and just wanted something that was easy, which pizza is, and most kids like.

emzw12 · 12/01/2019 18:43

Easiest children's party ever!
Such a pain doing sandwiches and crisps for everyone who has allergies, eating habits etc.
Pizza great choice - easy!

thewayoftheplatypus · 12/01/2019 18:53

I always thought the standard party food rule was that you could serve whatever kind of junk food you liked, as long as you put a plate of carrots and cucumbers next to it to pacify the parents!

Aeroflotgirl · 12/01/2019 18:53

The happy meal menu sounds great though, as there is more variety, most kids will like what you can get in a happy meal.

Aeroflotgirl · 12/01/2019 18:55

ha thewayofthe my kind of party. Ds6 is having a Pizza Hut party for his 7th birthday, shock horror.

Cheekylittlenumber · 12/01/2019 18:55

Everything in moderation as my grandad would say (he lived until he was 92)

I agree OP, I don’t think takeaway pizzas is enough. At least some cut up cucumber ,fruit or something.

I’m very relaxed with my kids diets but I would at least want to put something with a bit of colour on my 4 year olds plate. She’s the type that I really have to encourage to eat anything other than junk.

For a ten year olds party this is ok. Not a 4 year olds

Queenisabella · 12/01/2019 18:56

Was it the only food on offer if so then I do 5hink it's a bit odd.
The secret to getting them to eat the veg sticks is to put them out before the junk btw.
Your welcome

This. How much pizza will a four year old eat anyway. Prob max one slice. It's really not a big deal.

Aeroflotgirl · 12/01/2019 18:57

Yes thewayofthe, they are the foods that are mostly left over at the party, as well as the egg sandwiches, the pizza and sausage rolls are gone.

Aaaahfuck · 12/01/2019 18:58

It's a party let them enjoy a treat. If you are that bothered don't serve pizza at your child's party.

BlaaBlaaBlaa · 12/01/2019 18:59

happycroc don't you ever get takeaways at home? I have a 4 year old who indulges in the odd takeaway with us. No big deal.

Pizza at a kids party is fine.....parties are meant to be about treat food.

Blou2 · 12/01/2019 18:59

Racecardriver good point, except that potatoes aren’t vegetables...

Bluntness100 · 12/01/2019 18:59

It's really not. Most of the kids will just keep playing and at best pick at them.

wildone03 · 12/01/2019 19:00

I served Domino's and Side at my DD's 4th party as the previous year stressed about the food and spent hours preparing and transporting to hall only for there to be sooo much left over. Pizza was great kids and parents loved it. Hardly any leftovers. No stress and easy to clean up :)

Aeroflotgirl · 12/01/2019 19:00

Ds 6 has SN, I wish he was invited to parties, I don't a toss what kind of food he eats, as long as it is safe. Dominos pizza is hardly crack. Op did not say if they put out the obligitory cut up veg or not, for all you know, they might have, and op has just homed in on the pizza.

3WildOnes · 12/01/2019 19:01

My children have never had quavers. A handful of dominoes pizzas though.
