To think takeaway pizza at a 4 year old’s party is an odd choice?

Just that really. I’m not especially neurotic about what my kids eat. I’m happy for them to have the odd happy meal every couple of months or the occasional chocolate biscuit. But a pile of dominoes pizza at a party in a hall just seems a little much.?

I’m fully prepared to accept it if I’m being unreasonable because I can’t quite put my finger on why I wasn’t keen on this. Maybe it’s the salt. Anyway daughter is now asking for the same thing at her party next week and I’m really not sure.

sounds a great idea! it's a party, I don't see a problem with it?

PodgeBod · 14/01/2019 11:18

I actually went to a 4 year olds party where takeaway pizza was served quite recently. I didn't have a problem with it as my kids love pizza but I don't like pizza much at all so would have been left out as a kid.

Fruitbatdancer · 14/01/2019 11:20

YABU.

SarahSissions · 14/01/2019 11:30

Sounds good. I'd probably steer clear of pepperoni pizzas or anything too salty. But the kids will love it and its low effort

Notso · 14/01/2019 11:32

I don't like pizza much at all so would have been left out as a kid.
As a fussy kid who wouldn't eat wafer thin ham, chicken paste, sliced bread, eggs, cocktail sausages, pineapple even if it was sticking out of a foil 'hedgehog', blancmange or jelly I was left out at pretty much every party in the 80's Grin
I'm still bitter at the meaner mums who wouldn't let you have a party ring or a frazzle unless you'd eaten one of their grim sandwiches!

Aridane · 14/01/2019 11:53

Why not make your own pizzas. You can buy the bases and put on them what you want . Put passata on them and then put whatever topping you think best

I) time consuming

Ii) May not have the same appeal to kids’ tastebuds as commercial ready made pizzas

Dixiechickonhols · 14/01/2019 12:06

To all those why not make your own, the party is in a hall.
There may be no kitchen and oven at all or limited facilities.
So need to transport food there - how do you transport passata topped bought bases there? Especially if you’ve walked or got public transport. You’d need a big car to transport pizza for 30 flat. Plus can you park near venue to carry it in, who is superving 4 yr old while you do this.
If you make pizza there you need to hire hall for extra time or miss party and spend time in kitchen making and cooking, plus who is supervising whilst you are in kitchen. How can you cook pizza for 30 quickly in one oven? Plus you get there and oven doesn’t work or knobs on oven worn so you can’t see temp and so burn it. Plus after party you have to pay for another hour hire to clean kitchen and oven.
Bought in pizza so much easier.
Plus anyone halal, allergy can check if they can have dominos.

It's a party! The food is supposed to be fun

Starmer82 · 14/01/2019 12:09

We had dominoes pizza for my six year olds party. They had 50% off at the time so not too expensive. It went down really well and there was some left over for parents which was a bonus! We just did some veg sticks on the side to add a bit of variety xx

Cutesbabasmummy · 14/01/2019 12:12

DixiechickonholsI'm lucky as I've roped in my mum to help me out in the kitchen. My DH will supervise the party whilst we do the pizza. The hall is pretty new and I know everything works as have been to other parties there. The cocktail sausages will just be out out in their packets, cucumber and carrot sticks prepared at home so not really a big deal. And a quick wipe round of the kitchen will happen whilst the bouncy castle is being taken down so no need to hire extra time.

FrenchJunebug · 14/01/2019 12:14

how is having a slice or two of pizza at a party 'binging'?!

SushiMonster · 14/01/2019 12:14

What on earth is wrong with pizza for a party?

Not exactly much worse than a ham or cheese sandwich is it?

SushiMonster · 14/01/2019 12:16

Why not make your own pizzas. You can buy the bases and put on them what you want . Put passata on them and then put whatever topping you think best

Why make your own?

In what way is a shop bought pizza base, plus passata and 'your pwn toppings' any better than a dominos? Seriusly?

"home made" does not ] "healthy" you know.

Dixiechickonhols · 14/01/2019 12:17

With help and knowing the kitchen you’ll be fine.
We did a party in a cricket clubhouse once with no kitchen at all. I did individual boxes of food (had to assemble boxes and prep food at home) and carried them in but had car and help from mum/friends. Pizza bought in would have been easier (never thought of it) Another Mum using same venue got McDonald’s happy meals.

Venison · 14/01/2019 13:40

Another Mum using same venue got McDonald’s happy meals.

How ghastly. What did the Police say?

How lucky you are to have a brain unsullied by common people's food. You are indeed a very superior parent. Your children will be so grateful for all the make your own shit, when they are teenagers they will never eat a sweet, touch a pasty or drink a drop. Good luck with that...

Dixiechickonhols · 14/01/2019 14:59

venison no judging from me for getting happy meals, sensible solution to a party in a hall with no kitchen same as ordering dominos pizza.

MissEliza · 14/01/2019 15:16

What did the Police say? Great response! There's just no having a sensible discussion with people who have such a rigid belief in their superior parenting.

BertrandRussell · 14/01/2019 15:23

Happy Meals at a party? The horror!
Tell me they at least replaced the toy with a book or something made of wood?

Parker231 · 14/01/2019 15:29

I love the fish finger happy meal - for me !

incywincybitofa · 14/01/2019 15:32

I think Venison was trying to say she thought Happy Meals at that venue were a good idea.
I've been looking at party venues and quite a few have pizza delivery as a food choice and you can't bring your own food. I think pizza is a good choice but half the kids in my child's class have an allergy or aversion to some part of it.
A lot of other party venues offer nuggets or pizza and chips
I think it's the new norm for party venues in some places

my2bundles · 14/01/2019 15:58

It's not an odd choice. The parents chose a food the party child enjoys as a treat. If your kids don't like it they don't have to eat it. They carnt possibly cater to every other parents whims, be greatfull your child was nvited.

BasiliskStare · 14/01/2019 16:15

Ha ha ha

Ds once had a party ( to be fair he was more like 8 or 9 than 4 ) at a venue where there were no cooking facilities and if I am completely honest with getting there and picking up friends who did not have a lift I wasn't up for making a whole lot of food . We ordered takeaway Pizza Express Pizzas for all - does that make us good parents because they weren't Dominos Grin ( Oh we did get a vegetarian one as one child I absolutely knew was vegetarian - fabulously compromising eh? not all bad ) It was in the afternoon. I did take a cake. If any child was hungry they could have had something to eat at their own home before bedtime. Of course a home made pizza is better , and you would not eat takeaway every day - but after racing round a race track, michelin stars nor properly combined meals were top of party goers' agenda.

I wish to be taken into my defence I provided plain water alongside the fizzy drinks / squash etc Grin

DS is now 22 and has survived.

Pashal2 · 15/01/2019 00:43

Would you recommend tofu salad with salt free vinaigrette and mung beans for the 4yo party? Kids love pizza, cake and ice cream. They're only 4 once and Im sure they aren't going to become morbidly obese after one day. No a fruit platter is not a comparable exchange.

user1496701154 · 15/01/2019 19:04

I maybe unpopular here but I just make my own pizza, less salt and I can put on own toppings, yeah I have to cook in oven but it doesn't take lone for my ds birthday I done cucmber sticks carrots. Peppers. Homemade healthy muffins swapped alot of sugar for natural yoghurt, fruit. A few crisps and birthday cake. We Alps done sandwich and for adults a pasta and cold drink

MrsBombastic · 15/01/2019 19:15
  1. kids like pizza, it's a win.
  2. Its a treat, not an everyday occurrence.
  3. if you don't want your daughter to have it at her party, don't do it.

It's clear that you're a healthy sort and this is making you cringe... It's a one off, try not to over think it.
