To think takeaway pizza at a 4 year old’s party is an odd choice?

Just that really. I’m not especially neurotic about what my kids eat. I’m happy for them to have the odd happy meal every couple of months or the occasional chocolate biscuit. But a pile of dominoes pizza at a party in a hall just seems a little much.?

I’m fully prepared to accept it if I’m being unreasonable because I can’t quite put my finger on why I wasn’t keen on this. Maybe it’s the salt. Anyway daughter is now asking for the same thing at her party next week and I’m really not sure.

Do you speak like that to your child?

Clearly I’ve touched a few raw nerves with this one!

So what we're expecting, hummus and quinoa! Fine for a 4 year old party, quick, easy and very little preparation, any left overs can be rated by the adults😋😋😋😋

adaline · 12/01/2019 17:56

I dunno. I guess I just feel like they have their whole lives ahead of them to binge on takeaway food.

Again, why is pizza wore than sausage rolls, crisps, white-bread sandwiches with ham, cocktail sausage and all the other beige crap that normally gets served at kids parties?

Or aren't you going to answer that because it doesn't fit with your agenda?

adaline · 12/01/2019 17:57

I didn't.

Eh, didn't what? What do you feed children at parties that's so healthy then?

Notso · 12/01/2019 17:58

My daughter yes.

HappyTheCroc · 12/01/2019 17:59

It’s not pizza in general. It’s horrible greasy dominoes that’s made out of all the processed shite of the day.

I serve normal stuff for kids like tuna sandwiches and quavers and fairy cakes. I am not a neurotic pain. My kids eat fairly normally and they have chocolate and sweets etc. I just draw the line at takeaway food.

But no. It’s quinoa or dominos on here isn’t it. Nothing in between.

I don’t have an agenda Confused

Children don't tend to binge do they? They just eat a few things then run off and play.

Bingeing is what adults do when they are seeking comfort in food, trying to eat their emotions so to speak.

MsChookandtheelvesofFahFah · 12/01/2019 18:01

But did the children enjoy it op? Surely that's the main thing. Your dd obviously did.

Aeroflotgirl · 12/01/2019 18:01

Oh god, it's only 1 party fgs, that kind of attitude is sowing the seeds for unhealthy attitude towards food op. And what about processed party food then!

Mrshoneyneedsanewhat · 12/01/2019 18:04

Absolutely standard at every children’s party I went to in the US. You sound like a total and utter snob.

Aeroflotgirl · 12/01/2019 18:04

Most 4 year old will have a few bites then run off, not eat a whole pizza!

ChariotsofFish · 12/01/2019 18:04

My DS went to a party onve wherr a healthy homemade pizza was served. He cried. I bet the kids loved the dominos and OP is worried they’ll now be disappointed in her own party food.

We had a party where a clown helped the kids make candyfloss. Not a single positive bit of nutrition there. The kids loved it and seem to have survived

Franheaton · 12/01/2019 18:04

I guess there's a certain psychological resistance to something that is purely junk food and marketed primarily as that, plus unlike other party food it's not something you would pick up in a supermarket along the rest of your weekly shop - it's a purchasing decision to purposely go to somewhere that just sells crap with nothing else to temper it. So I can see why it would make you feel uneasy. But in reality it's no worse than most party food and just because you buy, say, your weekly veggies at the same time in the same place doesn't make things like sausage rolls and crisps etc healthy food either.

LaurieMarlow · 12/01/2019 18:05

Gosh someone's coming over all middle class about nasty 'takeaway' Wink

OP you're hosting the party. If you want to serve highly processed white bread sandwiches, crisps, sausage rolls etc then you do that. I don't see that it's healthier, but you should do what you're comfortable with.

Notso · 12/01/2019 18:05

I just draw the line at takeaway food.

Good for you. Why do expect everyone else to do the same though.
I hate pre-sliced bread and hotdogs, and have neither in the house. Both common party foods though, I don't get my knickers in a twist about other people serving them or my kids eating them a few times a year.

Racecardriver · 12/01/2019 18:06

Surely a happy meal is worse? At least the dominoes had vegetables that are not potatoes.

TeddybearBaby · 12/01/2019 18:06

I’d say I’m pretty disciplined day to day. Nothing crazy healthy but just try my best to cook from scratch, have our five a day. Everything in moderation. Similar to you I’d say but I see a party / Christmas as a time to not worry about anything. Have a dance / enjoy yourself! There’s enough routine and having to think and control everything the rest of the time. It’s nice to just let go and not worry about it all once in a while. YOLO and all that x

That well known healthy snack: quavers.

Ultramic · 12/01/2019 18:11

...sausage rolls, crisps, white-bread sandwiches with ham, cocktail sausages and all the other beige crap that normally gets served at kids parties

That's the issue. 'Normally served'. Why is it always a sea of over-processed beige or pizza at kids parties? Just because it's normal doesn't make it ideal.

Not everyone has the time/opportunity to provide an alternative, so I understand and appreciate that.

IF you have the time, IF you have the money, IF you have the opportunity, etc etc.

LaurieMarlow · 12/01/2019 18:11

I can't really understand having no problem with crisps, happy meals, sliced white bread and (presumably) normal party foods like sausage rolls/cocktail sausages yet freaking out at dominos.

Everyone in the world loves a big, dirty Domino's pizza occasionally, though. It's so good! I'm watching what I eat at the minute and even so will admit that there's nothing in the world quite like melty cheese and those potato wedges!

I'm pretty calm about the DC's diets; we cook most meals at home without using much ready made stuff so I know the majority of their diet is "good". The odd bit of Dominos stodge doesn't harm them and I'd find it hard to get worked up over.

fishonabicycle · 12/01/2019 18:16

They will leave most of the party food apart from biscuits so pizza is a good easy option.
