To think takeaway pizza at a 4 year old’s party is an odd choice?

Just that really. I’m not especially neurotic about what my kids eat. I’m happy for them to have the odd happy meal every couple of months or the occasional chocolate biscuit. But a pile of dominoes pizza at a party in a hall just seems a little much.?

I’m fully prepared to accept it if I’m being unreasonable because I can’t quite put my finger on why I wasn’t keen on this. Maybe it’s the salt. Anyway daughter is now asking for the same thing at her party next week and I’m really not sure.

Would you rather they have a big pile of quinoa and chia seed pate served up in celery sticks and washed down with freshly squeezed martyr fruit?

LaurieMarlow · 12/01/2019 15:57

Crisps are pretty much nutritionally void, so I don't see why they're any better.

It's a party. It's fine.

bluesaturday · 12/01/2019 15:57

I've been to a couple of parties where they order pizza , the kids loved it.

KitsandCaboodles · 12/01/2019 15:57

Personally I wouldn't pay Dominos prices though, but you can get a personal pizza during the day with two toppings for 1.99 which is good value, although the large pizzas may be better value if using vouchers. Now I really want pizza.

KitsandCaboodles · 12/01/2019 15:58

Why is pizza a bit weird?

EsmeeMerlin · 12/01/2019 15:58

Sounds ideal to me, simple for the party organisers and you know any leftovers from the children will be eaten by the adults. Most parties are full of unhealthy food and a buffet is no different. Sausage rolls, crisps, cakes, sweets in party bags etc and the kids never go for the veggie sticks.
Personally I know my son will spend lots of time running around at a party and he eats healthy the majority of time, so I let him eat what he wants within reason at parties.

YABU

It's a great idea

ReggieKrayDoYouKnowMyName · 12/01/2019 15:59

We went to a party in the summer where the parents did this. Thought it was genius and we mums and dads cleared up on the left overs. Win-Win.

KitsandCaboodles · 12/01/2019 15:59

The 1.99 deal is collection only though now that I think about it. Personally I think some supermarket pizzas, Asda, are about as good. The best is from Italian restaurants though.

billieD · 12/01/2019 16:00

YABU. It's just pizza Confused

Putyourdamnshoeson · 12/01/2019 16:00

Takeaway pizza like Domino's isn't a particularly child friendly food imo. Pizza in general is OK, takeaway pizza is laden with salt. I wake up dying with thirst if I eat any.
My kids parties and those of their friends were just a bit more standard party food.

KitsandCaboodles · 12/01/2019 16:01

I can't say that I d ever had that problem with pizza myself and I don't salt any of my food so I'm not accustomed to eating a lot.

Aridane · 12/01/2019 16:02

Sounds good!

Putyourdamnshoeson · 12/01/2019 16:03

Maybe our local takeaways are different, or maybe my palate is different. It affects everyone in our house though, but never when I make my own.

It sounds pretty normal to me. It's party food. I don't see how it is any worse than crappy ham sandwiches and sausage rolls.

VioletBedframe · 12/01/2019 16:04

Sounds fine. Great idea. I’ll do that next time. I imagine there’s as much if not more salt in sandwiches and crisps as in pizza.

KitsandCaboodles · 12/01/2019 16:04

I don't like pizza from the Indian restaurants or fish and chip shops though. I do find those a little too salty. Why am I suddenly so over invested in pizza?

ReanimatedSGB · 12/01/2019 16:05

YANBU and need to take the stick out of your arse. Takeaway pizza is an excellent party choice - it's easy, DC like it and you can reasonably cater to some if not all dietary preferences... well, at least you can have a vegetarian option.

Is what's bothering you the idea that some 'selfish, lazy' women weren't prepared to spend hours making sandwiches and arranging crisps in bowls, or something?

LaurieMarlow · 12/01/2019 16:05

Who gets pizza from an Indian restaurant?

HappyTheCroc · 12/01/2019 16:06

Just to be clear, it’s not pizza in general that I have an issue with. It’s dominos pizza. It’s saltier and greasier than your standard supermarket pizza. In my experience anyway.

However I accept I must be overly uptight about this.

The only kids parties dd ever went to that pizza wasn’t the food were the ones we hosted because dd has never liked pizza.

KitsandCaboodles · 12/01/2019 16:07

Indian takeaway sorry. Some people do. Some of them offer it around here. I'm not a fan. I like a nice thin base, not deep pan.

BrilliantDarling · 12/01/2019 16:07

@InspectorIkmen 😂 I think you have hit the nail on the head there, why else would anyone think pizza is strange

Missingstreetlife · 12/01/2019 16:08

Local pizza parlour always mobbed with kids. They do popular ice cream birthday cake with singing. Give them some carrot sticks.
