To think takeaway pizza at a 4 year old’s party is an odd choice?

Just that really. I’m not especially neurotic about what my kids eat. I’m happy for them to have the odd happy meal every couple of months or the occasional chocolate biscuit. But a pile of dominoes pizza at a party in a hall just seems a little much.?

I’m fully prepared to accept it if I’m being unreasonable because I can’t quite put my finger on why I wasn’t keen on this. Maybe it’s the salt. Anyway daughter is now asking for the same thing at her party next week and I’m really not sure.

Fine imo

Putyourdamnshoeson · 12/01/2019 16:23

Laurie I looked it up, so can you.

I agree, other pizza places are fine. Domino's and Papa John's are participating bad. There was a well publicised report on them.

BertrandRussell · 12/01/2019 16:23

Does Dominos have more salt than any other bought pizza?

SiennaSienna · 12/01/2019 16:24

Takeaway pizza plus huge trays of cut up veggies and fruit are the standard at kids parties around here (Canada). Super convenient and not terribly unhealthy.

Putyourdamnshoeson · 12/01/2019 16:24

Apparently it and papa John's do. Personal experience backs it up.

LaurieMarlow · 12/01/2019 16:24

Laurie I looked it up, so can you.

Post your findings on here or I'll conclude you're talking out of your arse.

I'm happy to be proved wrong but I'm not just taking your word for it.

Believability · 12/01/2019 16:26

Standard kids party food, no?

Tartanwallpaper · 12/01/2019 16:27

I really want dominoes now. I think your post is accidental advertising haha

HappyTheCroc · 12/01/2019 16:27

Is dominoes pizza really standard kids party food? Really?! I’ll accept it if that’s what you’re telling me but I’m quite surprised

Sounds like an expensive party food but not as bad as the usual tonne of Haribo the kids get plied with.

Monestasi · 12/01/2019 16:28

I’ve yet to attend a 4 year old’s party (including my those of my own children) where they actually eat more than a couple of bites of anything beyond the cake.

Relax a bit. Life is nicer when you do.

whatsthepointthen · 12/01/2019 16:29

My sister does this for my nephews birthdays, although he is older than 4 though.

GenderIsAPrison · 12/01/2019 16:29

YABU and need reality check.

Monestasi · 12/01/2019 16:30

YANBU on the dominos bit though.

It’s putrid stuff. I’m baffled over its existence.

Aragog · 12/01/2019 16:30

Walkers ready salted (plain) crisps = apprize 1.4g salt per 100g crisps

Dominos veggie supreme pizza = 0.96g salt per 100g pizza (approx 1 slice of a medium/large pizza)

Dominos ham and pineapple pizza = 1.28g salt per 100g pizza (approx 1 slice of a medium/large pizza)

Notthebloodymustardcushion · 12/01/2019 16:30

YANBU. It should have been Papa Johns, not Dominos.

Ultramic · 12/01/2019 16:31

Yuck. It's conditioning kids to treat junk food as a 'treat' I'm with you, OP. Packed with salt and bad fats.

So easy to make your own, much healthier, pizza, as an alternative.

No wonder we have an obesity crisis!

Putyourdamnshoeson · 12/01/2019 16:31

Sounds about right. And keep ds will eat how many slices of pizza v how many crisps? 100g crisps is 5 multipack packets.

NutElla5x · 12/01/2019 16:32

I think it's an excellent idea. Takes away half the stress of a kids party and kids will love it! Compensate with an extra healthy lunch/dinner if you're worried about the nutrition value.

adaline · 12/01/2019 16:32

No wonder we have an obesity crisis!

4 year olds having a couple of slices of pizza at a part does not an obesity crisis make Hmm

PicassoWouldBeProud · 12/01/2019 16:33

I can't put my finger on it but I agree OP I think it's a bit weird for a party for 4 year olds. Probably because it seems a vey adult indulgence food- it's not really the nutritional side of things as party food isn't generally nutritious, but I would expect more "child friendly" options for that age. For some reason mini cheese and tomato pizzas, plus a selection of sandwiches and a few carrot sticks with dips would seem much more normal to me. I think maybe it's the lack of variety and just putting a stack of takeaway boxes in front of a group of 4 year olds that just doesn't sit right with me.

MissMalice · 12/01/2019 16:33

I booked a football party for one of my DC and they offered a hot food option. I was surprised when a pile of dominoes was delivered. It looked a bit “cheap” to me but I can’t say I thought about it beyond that one day.

Deliqueen · 12/01/2019 16:33

Pizzas are a lot more healthy than crisps! ( not dominoes though!). You could do mini pizzas alongside the party food. I did a make your own pizza for my DD's 4th birthday. Pizza bases with tomato sauce already on laid out and they chose from a selection of ham, pepperoni, cheese, different veggies etc. Cooked them whilst they did games.
I was horrified when my daughter was given macdonalds at a nursery age party but it didnt kill her and she hasn't ever had another since!( she's now 10)
At that age they can be easily persuaded/encouraged to go with what you have planned. Good luck!

Aragog · 12/01/2019 16:34

Oh and a McDonalds Happy Meal burger and fries = 1.6g salt; a cheese burger will be more at 2.04g; chicken nuggets meals are best at 0.78g

Sirzy · 12/01/2019 16:34

Do people really stop to worry about how healthy party food is? Confused

A healthy diet is about moderation!
