To think takeaway pizza at a 4 year old’s party is an odd choice?

Just that really. I’m not especially neurotic about what my kids eat. I’m happy for them to have the odd happy meal every couple of months or the occasional chocolate biscuit. But a pile of dominoes pizza at a party in a hall just seems a little much.?

I’m fully prepared to accept it if I’m being unreasonable because I can’t quite put my finger on why I wasn’t keen on this. Maybe it’s the salt. Anyway daughter is now asking for the same thing at her party next week and I’m really not sure.

OP I understand you and totally agree. Just here on this thread, the parallel universe where people only read the bits they want to to get arsey.
In what world do people give 4 year olds Domino's? Presumably one where salt levels are irrelevant.

LokiBear · 12/01/2019 16:09

I think it is weird, but in the sense that Dominos is expensive for a group of 4 year olds. I'd probably save that for when my girls are 10+ and more likely to nag me for that kind of food! Younger than 5, my dds party food always consisted of sandwiches, veggie sticks, crisps, yoghurt and fruit. I always made either lunch bags or individual plates up in advance and covered with cling film because I could stick to a budget and I hate food waste. Dd7's last party was at a bowling alley and the kids all chose spaghetti bolognaise or a burger.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 12/01/2019 16:10

Sounds fine to me. Not every day food, but perfect for a party

LaurieMarlow · 12/01/2019 16:10

it’s saltier and greasier than your standard supermarket pizza. In my experience anyway.

I wouldn't think there's much in it.

And I can't imagine dominoes is any worse than crisps and sausage rolls.

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 12/01/2019 16:11

Really? It’s pretty standard, in most Birthday party packages, dominos pizza is included I’d say of 70% of them

DiseasesOfTheSheep · 12/01/2019 16:11

I'm amazed people think pizza from Domino's is remotely comparable to a supermarket bought version...

Missingstreetlife · 12/01/2019 16:11

Get it from pizza press then ffs

Billballbaggins · 12/01/2019 16:11

It’s a one off at a party, they’ll probably be getting a couple of slices each, not an entire large pizza each every day for a week. It’s really not that big a deal.

LaurieMarlow · 12/01/2019 16:12

The OP wants to give them crisps instead, so she can't be too concerned about salt.

Talkingfrog · 12/01/2019 16:14

Sounds a good idea to me. Easy to prepare, can get a selection of toppings, easy to clean away, and can idten get a but ibe fet one free so m at bit he as expensive as it sounds. Wish I had thought if it.

KitsandCaboodles · 12/01/2019 16:14

I had Dominos pizza last week. It was ok at best and I've had better pizza from Asda and Tesco's pizza counters. They all pale in comparison to Italian restaurant pizza though.

TSSDNCOP · 12/01/2019 16:14

It is the sort of genius that the parents thatve been up since dawn making carrot batons cannot get their heads round.

HappyTheCroc · 12/01/2019 16:14

even Pom bears? (Admittedly a treat for me. I can’t get enough of them Grin)

Presumably people without a stick up their arse Hmm

TSSDNCOP · 12/01/2019 16:16

When DS was 7 I had the local chippy deliver sausage and chips for 25 kids.

Not a single scrap left.

Unlike carrot barons.

SarahET · 12/01/2019 16:18

I recently asked my soon to be 4 year old what food she wanted at her party... Sausages (full size, not mini party sausages), olives, salami, 'new' crisps and ice cream... ookkaay then, that wouldn't look odd at all! Confused

Dominoes sounds excellent in comparison but I imagine would cost a fortune.

Putyourdamnshoeson · 12/01/2019 16:19

Laurie a single slice of Domino's pizza contains about 6 times the salt of a packet of Crisps.

LaurieMarlow · 12/01/2019 16:19

Last kids party I hosted I tried in vain to get a 4 year old to eat pizza (M&S) while she ran past me, laughing, stuffing her face full of chocolate.

LaurieMarlow · 12/01/2019 16:19

Evidence pls

LemonNLime · 12/01/2019 16:21

I get what you mean about Dominos.

Although the idea of pizza at a party is ok. Can you not see if you have a local Pizza Hut or Pizza express as an alternative? They usual cater a few childrens parties where we are. The local Pizza express even has an in with our local trampoline park for parties (nandos too)

Oblomov19 · 12/01/2019 16:21

Oh Dear. Are you one of those puritanical 'mine only has chocolate once a year' types?

DuffBeer · 12/01/2019 16:21

I went to a kids party at an incredibly overpriced local venue. They served up uncooked pizza. I shit you not, it had just been defrosted and served up.

Personally I would be delighted if there was dominos on offer.

ninjawarriorsocks · 12/01/2019 16:22

Sounds a great idea to me!
I’ve done the carrot sticks / homous / cheese / crisps / sandwiches party food too many times - you can guarantee the kids will gorge on cheesy wotsits, take a small nibble of a sandwich, eat the cake, and the rest gets thrown away. The veg sticks are just for show, everyone knows that. They are a pain to prepare though. You can’t even put grapes out now because of the choking hazard.
At least with dominoes pizza it will get eaten (if not by the kids by the parents!) so less food waste. Not all halls have food preparation areas (and not all are clean!).

In fact I may pinch this idea for DDs next birthday party....

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 12/01/2019 16:22

It's a party, completely normal.
