To think takeaway pizza at a 4 year old’s party is an odd choice?

Just that really. I’m not especially neurotic about what my kids eat. I’m happy for them to have the odd happy meal every couple of months or the occasional chocolate biscuit. But a pile of dominoes pizza at a party in a hall just seems a little much.?

I’m fully prepared to accept it if I’m being unreasonable because I can’t quite put my finger on why I wasn’t keen on this. Maybe it’s the salt. Anyway daughter is now asking for the same thing at her party next week and I’m really not sure.

There is nothing inherently worse about pizza, nutritionally than about any of the other foods kids encounter at a party, including crisps and sandwiches made with butter (or, god forbid margarine) and processed ham. Cooked tomatoes are exceptionally healthy, and fresh cheese is good for growing kids.

BackBoiler · 13/01/2019 18:14

I dont think Dominos is greasy tbh. Its the only pizza I would heat up and eat the next day!

BertrandRussell · 13/01/2019 18:15

There is a lot of snobbery around children’s food. [taps nose meaningfully]

mrst3 · 13/01/2019 18:21

Really?? My daughters last party was all the usual stuff, Morrisons sandwich platters and greek salads plus towards the end I'd arranged delivery of 6 Pizza's not Dominoes cos of price but a local firm charging just around £6 a pop for their 12 inch. Everyone was pleased especially the adults :)

BarbaraofSevillle · 13/01/2019 18:25

Well I still don't understand how Domino's pizza is significantly worse than supermarket pizza or things like ham and cheese sandwiches and crisps, despite several people holding such and opinion.

I've only had it once or twice because I don't think it's worth the extra cost compared with independent takeaways, supermarket pizza, Italian restaurants etc, but to me it seems like fairly average pizza - obviously not as nice/authentic/good quality as a proper fresh dough wood fired oven place, but certainly not significantly worse than the cheaper end of the independent market, or most supermarket pizzas.

Haha ... people saying that cut up veg is just done for judge parents ... honestly my kids eat that first. My eldests favourite food, than it totally true, is reddish, my youngest is tomatoes, they all love cucumber, so cut up veg is among their favourite things. Except for one of mine whose very fussy and has a massive sweet tooth, they other three are ridiculously easy and healthy eaters. But all love pizza too. Hence why I have no issue with 12 or less dominos a year.

You are being precious - and a bIt judgemental

At parties you get treats - Relax.

Momasita · 13/01/2019 18:30

Yes it's unhealthy but it's a party.

kateandme · 13/01/2019 18:31

sounds fab.society and diet culture pushing views into peoples minds once again.its just pizza.

tessieandoz · 13/01/2019 18:33

I don't see pizza as any different from cheese on toast and no one has a fit about that. When will this madness end ? Get a sense of proportion

Its2oclockinthemorning · 13/01/2019 18:37

Sound like a great idea to me! Not sure if splash out on dominoes though

Littlenic73 · 13/01/2019 18:40

Different serving Dominos but considering that a lot of soft play places serve pizza or nuggets and chips as their standard party menu for kids that age I can't imagine it's much different although probably a waste of good pizza as small kids rarely eat more than a few bites of things at the birthday parties we've been to. It might be what the party child asked for. At that age my DD asked to go to IKEA for a birthday treat, so she could have hot dogs, ice cream and go in the play area. (She did have a party at the weekend that year too with lots of different party food, although no sandwiches).

Chocolateheaven123 · 13/01/2019 18:47

My son is nearly 2. He's never had McDs or a takeaway and we make most of our own food from scratch as I like to limit salt and just know what's in his food. Even I wouldn't be bothered about the odd Dominoes at a party for 4 year olds. Nothing wrong with it on the odd occasion and less hassle for the parents.

Jimdandy · 13/01/2019 18:51

I don’t consider pizza junk food. It’s basically a hot cheese sandwich.

Awaywiththefairies1 · 13/01/2019 18:55

We did take away pizza for my ds's 4th birthday, best choice ever. No faffing about preparing food, we ordered and paid for it a couple of days in advance, got a great deal, asked them to cut the slices smaller than normal and pre arranged delivery time. Was so easy and adults happily tucked in to the leftovers. I would absolutely do it again and personally don't think a couple of slices of pizza is any worse than white bread sarnies, crisps, sausage rolls ect.

MamaLovesMango · 13/01/2019 19:14

I’m feeling rather nostalgic for Pizza Hut (ice cream factory!!!!!!!) and McDonalds parties now.

Dixiechickonhols · 13/01/2019 19:16

Sounds sensible for a party in a hall with presumably limited kitchen facilities and or time constraints. Otherwise would have to transport food there with need to keep food covered and correct temp. If catering at the hall you would need to hire longer so more expensive and maybe facilities not up to it plus more time cleaning up.

lynnepot · 13/01/2019 19:17

Pizza with other buffet nibbles I think is fine. More like pizza you chuck in the oven rather than a expensive takeaway though. Just takeaway pizza and nothing else is a bit lazy though.

Mylittlepea · 13/01/2019 19:28

Best party food ever. Did Dominoes pizza for my sons 7th party which was in a private village hall with limited cooking facilities. It’s his favourite treat food which we have about every 6 weeks. About 20 kids and a few adults. Got a voucher deal online and spent approx £60 cos DH collected it rather than get it delivered. Did a few bowls of cucumber & carrot sticks to go with it.

Everyone loved it and we had one pizza left which we took home and heated it up for breakfast the next day - the ultimate DIRTY breakfast in bed 🤣🤣🤣 🍕

YOLO and I spend so much time cooking healthy meals from scratch week in week out, I really don’t give a toss about an unhealthy pizza meal once in a while....

Parker231 · 13/01/2019 19:35

Posters seem to have forgotten this is a children’s party not a cordon bleu dinner party!

LaurieMarlow · 13/01/2019 19:46

Well I still don't understand how Domino's pizza is significantly worse than supermarket pizza or things like ham and cheese sandwiches and crisps

Or happy meals, which the OP is ok with Confused

Anyway, looks like the OP has disappeared.

PinkPanther27 · 13/01/2019 19:50

Supermarket pizza as part of a buffet but a Dominos delivery seems a bit wierd.

delboysskinandblister · 13/01/2019 19:55

If they had a supermarket pizza parents would have to heat it and serve it. At least with the Dominos you just open the box and they can chow down. They're 4. It's a party. It's not every week.

MsChookandtheelvesofFahFah · 13/01/2019 20:12

Does it really matter how 'lazy' parents are ffs? Anyone would think a party is a competition into how much blood, sweat and tears went into it. NO ONE CARES!!

Matilda15 · 13/01/2019 20:13

Haven’t RTFT but I did takeaway pizza for my DS 6th party. We had an entertainer running it and I didn’t see the point in wasting my morning making sandwiches that wouldn’t get eaten. The kids loved it, the parents did too as there was enough to feed them as well!

All the parents told me what a great idea it was at the end as the kids had actually eaten something. I do think kids find takeaway pizza quite exciting
