To think takeaway pizza at a 4 year old’s party is an odd choice?

Just that really. I’m not especially neurotic about what my kids eat. I’m happy for them to have the odd happy meal every couple of months or the occasional chocolate biscuit. But a pile of dominoes pizza at a party in a hall just seems a little much.?

I’m fully prepared to accept it if I’m being unreasonable because I can’t quite put my finger on why I wasn’t keen on this. Maybe it’s the salt. Anyway daughter is now asking for the same thing at her party next week and I’m really not sure.

Pizza is served at literally every kids party where I live. If you want to make yourself feel better prepare / buy a fruit tray and a veggie tray. Most children only eat a slice or two, I doubt it’s worse than a ham sandwich and a load of crisps.

Brownie ingredients (for 12)
Butter
Sugar
Eggs
Milk
Flour
Coaco
Plain chocolate
In 12 there is 2ppg butter, so maybe 25g per brownie. Not great but hardly a capital offence, at least no trans fats. Oh and had 100g dried fruit and nuts in it.

@LaurieMarlow I'm reading them while eating my (supermarket bought) pizza. I have no regrets 😁 DD isn't having any because I made sure she was in bed first!! Wink

I don’t think putting out veges is show off at all. For us, we wanted a healthy option - there was no one to show off too at all. A mainly working class bunch at ours and therefore no one particularly cares about showing off to be honest. Just wanted a healthy option.

shpoot · 12/01/2019 20:54

Erm. It's just a pizza. They'll love it and you have to do absolutely nothing! Everyone's a winner.

Tuna sandwiches would not go down well with mine and are always left at parties. Never any pizza left cause the adults polish it off! Use a less greasy local takeaway. Dominos to be fair are a bit sloppy in your party clothes!

Bluntness100 · 12/01/2019 21:00

Not great but hardly a capital offence

Sure. But neither is a slice of pizza as a one off at a kids birthday party for a couple of hours.

Finalcountdown0 · 12/01/2019 21:03

Is it that much worse than a more traditional party spread of naff sandwiches, sausage rolls, cupcakes, crisps etc?
At least if they eat a slice or two of pizza it will fill them for longer than two minutes and it avoids the high sugar spike.

Do you want a pizza this action? www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/news/derby-news/lotto-results-winning-national-lottery-2421846?56565

beansontoastfortea · 12/01/2019 21:10

Give me a pile of dominos pizza any day Grin

RandomObject · 12/01/2019 21:10

God I want dominos now

I remember when I was at university I used to eat it 4 times a week and weighed 7st. Young people will survive.

Marriedwithchildren5 · 12/01/2019 21:11

@MsChookandtheelvesofFahFah im still doing chopped veg unsupervised! Love your thinking!!

Normandy144 · 12/01/2019 21:23

I did this for DD's 4th birthday at home for 10 kids. Ordered a couple of large margarita pizzas from the pizza place down the road (not a chain so don't know if I get a round of applause for that?)

Kids hoovered it up and I did ice cream (from a supermarket) with sprinkles and sauce. Way, way, easier and much less effort than making a bunch of sandwiches and veggie sticks that barely get touched. I'll do it again when DD2 has her 4th birthday at home.

Queenisabella · 12/01/2019 21:24

,For the last time : pizza is fine, pizza at a birthday party is fine. Pizza without any other food , no fruit, no veg sends the message. This is fun food, when you eat this food you will feel good. Learn to associate high fat, refined white carbs with fun. Vegetables are at best boring at worst a punishment and are not consumed when you are having fun or at parties
That's not a message I want to give pre-schoolers.

PurpleCrowbar · 12/01/2019 21:34

But I think 'you must eat these veg sticks before you get the fun stuff' is actually reinforcing that.

I'd rather go with 'yep, at parties we eat pizza & cake.'

I vegbomb my kids to death. Parties are different.

Queenisabella · 12/01/2019 21:37

I need er tell anyone adult or child what they should eat. I just have the veg sticks as the first food offered. No compulsion after 5 minutes when we have poured 20-30 drinks the other food comes out.

Queenisabella · 12/01/2019 21:38

I never

3in4years · 12/01/2019 21:47

I hate pizza

SD1978 · 12/01/2019 21:49

Pretty common here. Saves the effort. If it's a lunch party, this or sandwiches from subway is pretty common- had one party that provided fish and chips in large amounts. No clean up, pretty much guaranteed the kids eat, no cooking required. We did it for the last party (6) and it was popular.

FromEden · 12/01/2019 22:04

Every single kids party where I live has pizza, crisps and a fruit and veggie tray as the food. Nothing to get worked up about.

Bluntness100 · 12/01/2019 22:10

Of course it's nothing to get worked up about, it's a small slice of pizza at a kids party lasting a couple of hours,

Anyone like Queen getting their arse in their hands over it needs to get a serious reality check.

sansou · 13/01/2019 02:16

Never with DC1 - I martyred myself with the hall class party - making the. Cake and assembling the little boxes of HM mini rolls with requisite raisins, carrot sticks and platters of strawberries & grapes. Never again , I swore to myself - 10 yrs later...... I willingly pay for the venue, activity plus junk food. I roll up with a HM cake but that’s it - now, my youngest is YR7, I don’t even bother with party bags - just a slice of cake! DC1 is a teen now and a delivery of Dominoes is pretty much par for the course for the parties he goes to now. You’ll learn.......Grin

FuckingYuleLog · 13/01/2019 03:20

My 3 yr old had a pizza making party for their birthday so Yabu imo.
It’s not the healthiest but it’s once a year for a birthday! Don’t be one of those joyless parents who does carrot sticks and hummous with fruit salad as party food op (they do exist!).

Putyourdamnshoeson · 13/01/2019 07:08

Queenisabella that is spot on.

jessstan2 · 13/01/2019 07:18

Sounds great to me. Who doesn't like a pizza? Please may I come to the party?

fiydwi · 13/01/2019 07:19

I was planning this for my sons 5th party 🙈
A few friends over for a pizza, you’ve put me off now op 😂
