Stolen Bin thread

I have one of the larger council issued bins as I have 4 children , my neighbour also does though their bin is far older as they have grown up children .
I clean mine after each collection with bleach etc so it’s still fairly new looking .
I realised last week we have a stinking mouldy one instead now so been watching on bin collection day and realised my neighbour has swapped them over .
Now this could be a mistake I highly doubt they haven’t noticed theirs is now cleaner and bigger , so today is the day I’m getting it back . The man next door can be strange so I’m relauctant to approach him to ask for it back as I think he won’t back down so I’m just going to do a swap as soon as they are emptied , currently lying in wait .... wish me luck .

I still can’t believe no one has asked for a diagram yet 😆

bubblegumunicorn · 12/01/2019 05:00

@Biffsboys that just happened to us between Christmas and new year my husband watched it happen we got the bin back yesterday 1 day after the fortnightly pick up!

AgentProvocateur · 12/01/2019 05:05

I wouldn’t be able to identify mine. The bin men empty them and just leave them in a group and we all just take one.

Hello this thread really grew arms and legs , So the door went again last night and i went to door all smiley and welcoming asked why I had his bin , he clearly has false memories of it like a previous poster says .
I said ‘ no I definitely don’t , the bin I have is MY bin , although I think you adopted it for a few weeks , I assumed you would have realised’
He asked to look at it I said of course it’s got our number on it though .
He looked sort of annoyed though I think it was more the fact I’d had the cheek to take my own property back .

I told him if the other wasn’t his then someone else must have his bin but the one he had was mine . He said he had newer bin of the street , I said how on earth would that happen as the council don’t issue those bins anymore and mine was issued about 10 years after theirs . He couldn’t answer that one Grin
He looked sort of defeated but furious and slipped away back to his house .
Feel powerful now .
I’m going to have to watch my bin like a hawk every 2 weeks aren’t I ?
My bin needs to develop some extensive decoration on the next few weeks .

You absolute legend!!! Both in the way you handled it and for the update.

Now I can actually get on with my life.....until next bin day.

Ourownpersonaltrap · 12/01/2019 08:07

Some people are just soooooo strange! Why is he so het up over a bin?! Well done you for setting him straight!

We accidentally took our neighbours recycling bin by mistake. We are not bin cleaners and neither are they. Both bins skanky and old. He came round to swap back (no problem!) but I warned him we had already put rubbish in and we have a family so put more in. He farted about pouring rubbish out of the bins onto the drive then putting “his rubbish” back...I did suggest just swapping back after bin day but I think he had committed to his actions by then.

TheSerenDipitY · 12/01/2019 08:08

get a bin lock, it will be useless to him if he steals it again as he wont be able to open it

ChrisjenAvasarala · 12/01/2019 08:11

What an odd little man.

Loveweekends10 · 12/01/2019 08:12

Our second green bin went missing shortly after we moved in. I’m still not 100% convinced that the sellers didn’t turn up later and take it. She did that with some plant pots!

Foslady · 12/01/2019 08:15

If you have a Poundstrecher near you they have a great range of bin decals. Dd saw them years ago when she was little so we now have an assortment of kittens, gnomes and unicorns my to her older embarrassed self!!!!

ichifanny · 12/01/2019 08:18

My husband is sort of bemused by it all but glad all is right again with our bin , I did wobble a bit and start to doubt it was ours and I’ve been a massive arsehole , but it’s 100 % ours trying not to back down just to keep the peace with bully boy next door .

I’m laughing at the though of our bin out there on bin day with a chuck Norris face and numbers and bells and bin locks dressed up like Elton John .

I just don't get why they would suddenly think that your bin was their bin,I mean, they must surely realise.

MiniCooperLover · 12/01/2019 08:34

I think they wanted yours because (a) you said it's bigger, (b) you said it's cleaner and (c) he assumed you wouldn't challenge him to get yours back. And he was wrong! Well done OP. You def need a bin lock now though.

Justaregularmum · 12/01/2019 08:38

Thanks for the update op! Cheek of your neighbour!! I think it is time for the bin deco to come out... may be ‘uncouth’ to some 😳 but If you want to keep your sparkly bin I think this situation calls for it! Haha! Good luck in your mission to keep hold of your bin! Update in 2 weeks please!

purplewaterbottle · 12/01/2019 08:55

The lady we bought our house from took all the bins with her. Confused I wonder if they were special in some way! It was an annoyingly long wait getting them all replaced as well.

DartmoorDoughnut · 12/01/2019 08:57

We don’t have rubbish bins just recycling bins and have to put our black bags out on the street .... I feel like I’ve missed out a bit now!

Aprilshowerswontbelong · 12/01/2019 09:02

Op can I ask, your larger bin - were you advised not to fill it?? We have 6 dc and got a bigger bin with strict instructions not to actually fill it as the bin wagon can't lift a full one!! Bloody stupid imo!!

SauvignonBlanche · 12/01/2019 09:04

Great update - well done! Grin

ChrisjenAvasarala · 12/01/2019 09:05

Purplewaterbottle,

I took mine when I moved. It was within the same council so same coloured bins. I had ordered and paid for the larger bins, due to family size, so if I’d left them then the new owners would get the big bins and I would need to order and pay for larger ones again at the new house.

I paid for them, they were mine. The old owners of my new house had taken theirs with them too. Seems pretty normal.

ichifanny · 12/01/2019 09:07

Yes obviously some cognitive dissonance there he must have wiped all memories of his old bin from his brain as he liked ours better . Bloody weird , it’s like there is something in the air just now .
I just knew it the way he was being super sneaky with the bins and keeping it out of sight .

frugalkitty · 12/01/2019 09:08

Well done OP!!! Flowers

ichifanny · 12/01/2019 09:08

I’ve never been advised not to fill it completely @Aprilshowers makes sense right enough , we rarely do these days wit recycling etc

OP posts:
IrisTs · 12/01/2019 09:12

I blame the councils. Our one provides bins for free so no issue with bins being stolen. Well done OP. Make yours glittery so silly sod won't take it and big numbers all over it!!!

Aprilshowerswontbelong · 12/01/2019 09:17

By not filling it makes the capacity the same as a full smaller one!! Eventually they swopped it for another regular size so we now have 2!! But they requested my dh bail out all the rubbish and take it to the tip. One hot August when it had been in there a fortnight!! He refused and it get emptied as a one off! Waste of invention if you ask me!!
