Stolen Bin thread

I have one of the larger council issued bins as I have 4 children , my neighbour also does though their bin is far older as they have grown up children .
I clean mine after each collection with bleach etc so it’s still fairly new looking .
I realised last week we have a stinking mouldy one instead now so been watching on bin collection day and realised my neighbour has swapped them over .
Now this could be a mistake I highly doubt they haven’t noticed theirs is now cleaner and bigger , so today is the day I’m getting it back . The man next door can be strange so I’m relauctant to approach him to ask for it back as I think he won’t back down so I’m just going to do a swap as soon as they are emptied , currently lying in wait .... wish me luck .

they are sitting with blinds open in full sight of bin so plan foiled

Not necessarily. I would go back out and just do it. If they come out and question you just say, neighbour you know this is my bin, but i'm putting my number on just in case you forget again.

Lululemonade · 10/01/2019 10:56

He probably saw your thread on here and came home to ensure you didn’t get your lovely bin back 😂

AliceLateAgain · 10/01/2019 10:56

Why didn't you swap it whilst it was still full and the neighbour was away?

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 10/01/2019 10:56

BIn-gate! Don't worry about them watching, reclaim your bin!

Stormtrooper1986 · 10/01/2019 10:57

Keep us updated! Love a bin thread !!!

ichifanny · 10/01/2019 10:59

Yeah that’s a possibility lululemonade (watches out window ) I’m marching out to take it both are sitting next to each other just now so swapping over won’t make a difference as they can still take clean one .

Who cares if they are watching. It’s your bin. If they want a clean bin they can clean theirs. Or pay for a new one, which is the same size as yours. I assume you paid extra for it and in any case it is legally your property. Just because it is a bin, the same rules apply

ichifanny · 10/01/2019 11:08

It’s full of their rubbish just now or I’d just take it away

Ooh I love a good neighbor bin thread!
Go for it!

UhUhUhDennis · 10/01/2019 11:12

Omg not place marking at all!!!

BlackCatSleeping · 10/01/2019 11:12

Ok, definitely placemarking. Good luck, OP!

Lalliella · 10/01/2019 11:13

Watching.... what time is bin collection normally OP? Or are they still on post-Christmas schedule?

PositivelyPERF · 10/01/2019 11:14

Will you lot stop bloody placemarking. Other posters hate it. That’s wh6 I never placemark. 😇

BitOutOfPractice · 10/01/2019 11:15

Go and put your stickers on it now...

MountPheasant · 10/01/2019 11:15

Agree with IceRebel- if he comes out, just say ‘the binmen must have switched our bins out by mistake so I’m marking mine to avoid confusion.’ That gives him an out of not being his fault- though god knows if he would take it!

Nativityriot · 10/01/2019 11:16

Icerebel and mountpheasant have it.

MysteriesOfTheOrganism · 10/01/2019 11:17

I paint my house number on the lid Grin

popcornwizard · 10/01/2019 11:18

Do you have any spare tins of chocs/biscuits to give to the binmen as a late christmas gift? That way you can sit out with the bins with a beautifully passive aggressive reason, and immediately claim yours back as it's emptied.

shpoot · 10/01/2019 11:18

Chat with the bin men while they are emptying it. Take clean bin directly from bin mans hand once emptied and trot off with it. Then deface with sharpies

Foamybanana93 · 10/01/2019 11:19

I would just go and write on it in full view of the neighbours if they ask just say your marking your bin so they don’t steal it again !

ichifanny · 10/01/2019 11:20

Bins are normally 8am but clearly they are late to mess with me today . Got my few month old baby just now I’m pretty bold normally but not sure I’m bold enough to march out and write on bin in full view of them . Ruins my passive aggressive plan .

My neighbour swapped my waste paper recycling box that fits in the bin for her broken one that just drops in the bottom. I haven't been putting it in the bin tbh and at Christmas the binmen put the one from hers in my bin in error Grin I now have two paper recycling boxes and she has none. If she came and asked I'd give her hers back of course.

ichifanny · 10/01/2019 11:22

Or could escalate it to a full scale bin war argument rather than , ‘ oh dear ..this seems to be my bin you had a hold of Ho Ho Ho’ narrative

OP posts:
notWORKzilla · 10/01/2019 11:23

oooh I like PopcornWizard's idea of a pressie for the binmen to be able to claim your bin back immediately
