Stolen Bin thread

I have one of the larger council issued bins as I have 4 children , my neighbour also does though their bin is far older as they have grown up children .
I clean mine after each collection with bleach etc so it’s still fairly new looking .
I realised last week we have a stinking mouldy one instead now so been watching on bin collection day and realised my neighbour has swapped them over .
Now this could be a mistake I highly doubt they haven’t noticed theirs is now cleaner and bigger , so today is the day I’m getting it back . The man next door can be strange so I’m relauctant to approach him to ask for it back as I think he won’t back down so I’m just going to do a swap as soon as they are emptied , currently lying in wait .... wish me luck .

Well done, OP! Hope you've got it good and labelled (scratch house number in in a couple of places!) before he tries to confront you over his stolen bin again. Cheeky fucker.

Fluffyears · 11/01/2019 18:35

Mine are painted with number and street and have stickers. I had to pay for them so i’m Possessive about them. We do have a next door neighbour who is a bin CF. We have a shared lane between our houses, not very wide and our jobs go at the end of the lane at collection day. The lane also separates our drives. CFN doesn’t use her drive so she parks on dropped kerb and husband parks on the street. Because of this she puts her bins out on our side of the lane leaving no space for ours. Cos god forbid they are near her horrible car! I either get there first or shove hers back. I also don’t want her stinking dog bag smell nearer my home. They are absolute CF in the summer as well. I had to laugh when they had their loud, feral family over for a bbq, 20 of them just being noisy fuckers and it rained!

paintinmyhairAgain · 11/01/2019 18:38

our bin was mixed up with the neighbours, she came round to say about it, she lifted up the lid and sniffed, pulled a face and said poker faced 'yeah, that's mine' wft ? admittedly it did smell like something had died and decomposed in it. i'm a clean bin fan and and use neutrodol dustbin powder in mine Grin loving this thread !,

bubblegumunicorn · 11/01/2019 18:38

If he gives you any trouble the bins are serial numbered and you can call the council and they will tell you which address it’s registered too! Found this out when our neighbor stole my mums bin and left us with a one person bin for a family of 4! So call the council in front of him and get them to confirm it is infact your bin!

DishingOutDone · 11/01/2019 18:41

Ooh. He's going to come back OP, he's got the whooooooollllllllleeee weekend ahead of him to stew on the bin. Is your DH going to be at home? We could be in for a long one here MNetters, I bet it will involve notes, bound to be notes.

PristineCondition · 11/01/2019 18:41

Ours kept getting nicked by the young lads in the house share a few doors down.
I spaypainted it with sparkly pink spraypaint and unicorn stickers. No one touches My bin🦄

Mia184 · 11/01/2019 18:47

OP, has the neighbour come over again?

Miljah · 11/01/2019 18:53

Some b*stard nicked both my (semi-full) bins from my front drive in the middle of the night a couple of years ago.

And it's leafy around here! Grin.

I was surprised that no one heard as the roadway, being 'posh' Wink, is herringbone brickwork, not tarmac, so bins rumble.

TigerlilyMoon · 11/01/2019 18:53

I need to have an update!! This is the highlight of my day! GrinWine

Miljah · 11/01/2019 18:55

Use a soldering iron to etch your number on the bin lid!

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 11/01/2019 18:57

Hmm, I wonder if someone has nicked your neighbour’s reasonable bin and left the shocking one and he thinks he’s got it back, not realising it’s yours. Might explain the CFery.

StoneofDestiny · 11/01/2019 18:58

Paint the bottom of it and say that's how you know it's yours.

Justkeeprollingalong · 11/01/2019 18:59

Where are you OP? Any developments?

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 11/01/2019 19:02

CFN doesn’t use her drive so she parks on dropped kerb and husband parks on the street.

Without wanting to hijack one MN Gold topic with a different one, why on earth do so many people do this?

There appear to be two kinds of people: those who desperately wish that they had a drive and those who do have one, but arbitrarily decide not to use it. Presumably as their hobby is pointlessly annoying the neighbours.

RainbowTurd · 11/01/2019 19:02

😬

TheStarOnTheChristmasTree · 11/01/2019 19:08

Can someone give me a link to a bin lock please? The ones that open when the bin wagon tips the bin up. I've had a look but I'm not sure what I'm looking for. Every time I bring the empty bin back in someone has put dog shit in it. 2 lots yesterday!!!

ResistanceIsNecessary · 11/01/2019 19:17

Star if you search for "gravity bin lock" it should come up. I know there are sellers on eBay that do them.

LouH1981 · 11/01/2019 19:44

So engrossed with bin thread, my sons bath has nearly over run!

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 11/01/2019 20:03

Our bins have still got our house number that the previous owners painted on. God knows what they used but it’s not come off.

None of our neighbours would be batshit enough to steal our bins. They stink anyway.

justmakemeacuppa · 11/01/2019 20:08

Need an update!

concretesieve · 11/01/2019 20:23

OP - stick to your guns - and your bin Grin DP and I are still baffled that our green bin was nicked despite the fact that, in our area, green bins are free ...

figelnarage · 11/01/2019 20:32

Really need to know what happened with neighbour!!

Lillychops · 11/01/2019 20:46

Hi Ive loved reading your posts. Im anxious for you. Had 2 pinched from mine, painted in gloss my numbers outside bin but also inside lid with a large screw or simething sharp my name and address on it. So can.prove its mine. ☺ dying to know if youve got it back yet. Good on you!!!! 😀

Teacher22 · 11/01/2019 20:50

Bins of colour? Is that racist?

I once heard a comic doing a riff about how bin wars are first world problems.

Nonsense. We are British and bins are part of the social hierarchy. It is totally socially acceptable to steal one’s own bin back but do not decorate it with flowers or transfers. These are naff and only people of little social standing do this. A number might be Ok.

The way to signal your social superiority is to put your bin out on time and, more crucially, take it in and store it out of sight of the road during the week. Bins in front gardens or, worse, on the street, are signs that you have not arrived in the middle classes yet.

beeline · 11/01/2019 21:23

Love the idea of a different coloured bin #nostealing 😈
