Death Penalty for Bellfield

Charlotte48 · 09/01/2019 19:42

Having watched Manhunt about the investigation into the evil paedophile; child killer; woman killer; woman abuser and beater, Levi Bellfield, I was just wondering if, after Brexit, we should restore the death penalty. Surely Bellfield should be executed.

Treason was the last crime to carry the death penalty, and this was abolished in 1990.

Klobluchar · 09/01/2019 21:54

No, fuck him. Let him rot in prison and never be spoken of again. Concentrate on his victims and doing what we can to make sure things like this happen less often. Let his name be forgotten and that of his victims be cherished.

Birdsgottafly · 09/01/2019 21:55

moors murderers, Brady was mentally ill. Regardless of what they did we shouldn't be executing people with Mental Illnesses.

The issue for me is that there are some worse Manslaughter/child Offences etc cases than Murder cases, which wouldn't result in the death penalty.

I'd prefer longer sentences and more time served, as well as secure units dedicated to rehab/therapy. so Prisoners don't have to be released to get help.

Maldives2006 · 09/01/2019 21:56

The Guildford four were found innocentConfused

Craft1905 · 09/01/2019 21:56

Let his name be forgotten

Whose?

Rosehip10 · 09/01/2019 21:57

@Craft1905 - nope, captial punishment for treason was abolished in the crime and disorder act 1998.

Birdsgottafly · 09/01/2019 22:00

Rosehip10, I'm in Liverpool, I've never read the Sun even before Hillsborough.

I've never read the Mail, especially being from a non UK heritage.

I was a SW, I've had a lot of dealings with our so called justice system.

Birdsgottafly · 09/01/2019 22:03

Rosehip10 it's a lazy way to try to shut down discussion.

Why would you presume I'm a Sun and DM reader?

FedUpMum40 · 09/01/2019 22:06

We need new overhauls on parole boards, john worboys would have been a free man now if it wasn't for the victims !
I read today they are taking bars down from the windows now, at first I thought wtf! But it means less can be passed by swinging outside cell windows, which is actually a better idea
I don't think anyone cried over Ian Brady's death, but I don't think the death penalty is the way forward, but can understand how people feel this way, I still hope to find someone has turned a blind eye while Ian Huntley dies a painful death

LakieLady · 09/01/2019 22:07

Yes bring back hanging, but only for child murderers like Stefan Kiszko and Sally Clark, and for terrorists like the Guildford Four

And the Birmingham 6, the Maguire 7, the M25 3, the Broadwater Farm "murderers", Judith Ward ... there have been so, so many.

Even if I didn't have a problem with it morally (which I do), the risk of wrongful convictions is just too great.

Maldives2006 · 09/01/2019 22:09

No you wouldn’t because killing someone would eat into the heart of you. A man/woman in their 20’s begging their innocence, screaming for their mother, urinating or defecating themselves. Would you be prepared to live your life with that doubt in your head, the memories, screams.

Even the SS who had grown up being indoctrinated into deadly hatred against Jews found that killing them close up damaged them psychologically which is partly why the faceless gas chambers came into being.

There are many cases now of American death row prison guards who are now anti death penalty.

Also the police are still not above falsifying evidence.

BlancheM · 09/01/2019 22:10

It genuinely worries me that one of the reasons this country is clusterfucked is because of the sheer number of voters 1.) wrongfully correlating leaving the European Union with being able to fuck off human rights and 2.) the latter being a progressive, positive step.

Imissgmichael · 09/01/2019 22:11

Oh bless Bird was Brady mentally ill. That’s ok then. I don’t know if he was or not. I do know that we live in a world that it’s never violent criminals fault. There’s always some sort of excuse and that makes me very cynical.

QuestionableMouse · 09/01/2019 22:11

Where do you draw the line? Whippings for stealing something? Lop off a hand?

Murder is murder. Doesn't matter if the state does it or an individual.

BlancheM · 09/01/2019 22:14

It genuinely worries me that a leading reason this country is clusterfucked is because of voters 1.) wrongfully correlating leaving the EU with being able to just fuck off human rights and 2.) thinking the latter is a progressive, positive step.

BlancheM · 09/01/2019 22:16

Excuse the multiple posts, my phone clearly wanted to reiterate my point 😂

lboogy · 09/01/2019 22:21

What a stupid suggestion

The death penalty doesn't stop people from committing crimes neither should it be used as a from of punishment

TitsalinaBumSquash · 09/01/2019 22:22

I genuinely believe that anyone who commits crimes like Ian Brady has to be mentally ill, I don't know what that means in terms of punishment and it is of course not an excuse for what he did but no one can think he was rational and sane? Isn't being a psychopath a MH diagnosis?

Imissgmichael · 09/01/2019 22:24

Fedupmum I really liked your post.

ElevenSmiles · 09/01/2019 22:25

Brady was evil....with a genius IQ.....

Imissgmichael · 09/01/2019 22:27

Ah BlancheM you’ve spoken to all leave voters. Did I miss my turn. Never mind perhaps next time you can tell me what I think.

Ribbonsonabox · 09/01/2019 22:28

YABVVVVU the death penalty is murder. It has no place in a civilised society. You cant pretend someone isnt human just because they have done something disgusting or horrific.

Greensleeves · 09/01/2019 22:30

I've never come across a death penalty supporter who wasn't as thick as mince. This thread does nothing to change that.

StreetwiseHercules · 09/01/2019 22:34

Support for capital punishment is, in all circumstances, evil.

StreetwiseHercules · 09/01/2019 22:36

“I've never come across a death penalty supporter who wasn't as thick as mince. This thread does nothing to change that.”

I agree with this wholeheartedly. You have to be very thick or very bad to support the death penalty.
