Warning. Period related. AIBU to think this isn't just a period?

I have no idea what else it could be, but it just doesn't feel right?
I'm in agony with lower back pain, blood gushing, clots and have just vomited for about 5 minutes. Horrendous headache and slept for 3 hours today despite a relatively good nights sleep. I have never had a period like this, but it seems to be the only possible explanation. Can a period be this bad?

TBH the headache is taking over the back ache. Bleeding has stopped! What a complete and utter drama queen. I'd be annoyed reading this shit. I'm sorry for posting such drama. I'm ok.

OP It's clear you're a bit anxious about what's happening vs embarrassed that it's going to turn out to be nothing - hence a bit snippy - I get it. But look at your OP title. 'AIBU to think this isn't period related'. So your reason for posting was that your gut instinct was that it ISN'T right.

Good that you gave called 111. Don't play it down when they call back. Be factual, and if it's your period - great, and if it's not - great that you didn't ignore it.

carrotflinger · 08/01/2019 22:30

Yes do tell them the truth.
I wandered around with a broken bone in my foot for three months because I was "too brave" about the pain (according to my GP). He ruled out a broken bone because he thought I wasn't appearing to be in enough pain.
I was in bloody agony but didn't want to seem pathetic.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 08/01/2019 22:30

You are not a drama queen. You’ve had a big blood loss, and it’s unexplained. Speak to the nurse on the phone, explain everything.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 08/01/2019 22:32

I had pleurisy but the Dr didn’t think I did to start with because I was being brave. It actually doesn’t help you and if you are unwell people will help you.

myrtleWilson · 08/01/2019 22:32

when they do call back please do say you've not had a period for 5 months

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 08/01/2019 22:33

I rang 111 just before Christmas. I’d had (still have!) a rotten cold, and was bringing up slightly bloody mucus, which gave me a massive scare. The nurse who rang back told me I had broken wee blood vessels in my throat, nothing to worry about. I felt like a bit of a dick, but I am so glad I rang. I was imagining all sorts of horrors.

Hope you are okay, OP.

Ollivander84 · 08/01/2019 22:33

If the headache is unusual though, still speak to them. Honestly I felt like a complete idiot going to a&e with back pain twice. After they put me in an MRI they were ringing the neurosurgeon and I STILL kept going "it's just a bit of sciatica, I'm sure" HmmGrin

Hohofortherobbers · 08/01/2019 22:35

Could be toxic shock? You using tampons?

MrsKCastle · 08/01/2019 22:35

Wotev did the headache come on really suddenly? That and the vomiting alone is probably enough reason to get yourself checked out. Please make sure you tell them ALL your symptoms when they call back, and be absolutely honest about the pain.

TraineeCrone · 08/01/2019 22:35

Take some ibuprofen for the pain,it is also supposed to help reduce the bleeding a bit.
I used to get vomiting and diarrhea at the start of my periods just for the first hour or so.So if you have stopped being sick it could be that.
Heavy bleeding could be anything but it depends on how heavy. If you don't normally have heavy periods and haven't for five months then menopausal flooding could be the cause and the back ache would fit with that too.
Or it could possibly be more sinister.Since we aren't you we don't know how you feel or how bad it is we can only give you our best guesses though I think some people with bad experiences themselves do project a bit(only natural).
Hope the 111 is reassuring.Ibuprofen and a hot water bottle for your back while you wait.

Flannelled · 08/01/2019 22:37

Hope they call back soon.

Don't tell them it's period pains. Tell them you've not had a period for 5 months and are now experiencing heavy bleeding and back and head pain. You've been sick and have been sleeping more than usual. Tell them this is not normal for you.

Tell them the truth. If you start underplaying your symptoms and concerns, you won't get the right advice.

Wotev · 08/01/2019 22:37

I know this doesn't feel right which is why I posted, but I was hoping for everyone to tell me that they suffer similarly every month and I'm being a big baby. It's not normal for me.

OP posts:
Butchyrestingface · 08/01/2019 22:38

Do you usually take a shitty attitude towards people who are being nice and trying to help you, OP?

If not, could that be a symptom too?

Flannelled · 08/01/2019 22:39

PS I hope you can come back on and tell all us madams it was just period pain.

Then again, why women have to put up with "just period pain" is another discussion.

GobblersKnob · 08/01/2019 22:41

I hope they call back sharpish. Do you feel faint at all? Is the bleeding still stopped? You are very sensible to make the call.

KimchiLaLa · 08/01/2019 22:42

I'm not blooming ringing 111! For goodness sake. I'm sure it's just a period and that's why I posted, so that other posters would tell me it's perfectly normal. It's just new for me. I'm just being a big wuss.

I've gone from sympathetic to being really wound up. JUST CALL THEM. What do you have to lose??

CakeyCakeyCakey · 08/01/2019 22:44

Not to frighten you but I had a relative (vague as it’s outing) who all of a sudden started with a really heavy period, severe pains and vomiting she swore blind it was just a period and she would be fine. Until she collapsed from the blood loss and was taken to hospital and scanned, turned out she had ovarian cancer which had spread to her uterus, cervix, bladder, bowel and into her bones. Please see someone.

Wotev · 08/01/2019 22:44

I did feel faint earlier, but not at the moment because I'm sitting down. Bleeding appears to have stopped! Which makes me out to be a complete fraudster. Anyway, it's a good sign!

OP posts:
Flannelled · 08/01/2019 22:44

Wotev, trust yourself. If you feel this isn't right, it probably isn't.

I work for the NHS (I'm not a medic but work closely with a range of medical staff). They don't mind people like you contacting them. You won't be wasting their time and they won't think you're a wuss. Every single clinician I've ever worked with would rather see a genuine person unnecessarily "just in case" than miss someone who needed them but didn't go.

Wotev · 08/01/2019 22:45

Have to sleep again, so if I don't reply that's why. I'm not being ignorant.

OP posts:
GobblersKnob · 08/01/2019 22:47

I think you should probably keep yourself awake Wotev if you can't you should maybe call an ambulance.

MrsKCastle · 08/01/2019 22:47

Are you feeling drowsy again? Can you try to stay awake until they have called you back?

GobblersKnob · 08/01/2019 22:48

Seriously. Though I can imagine you don't want to.

U2HasTheEdge · 08/01/2019 22:48

I hope someone calls you back soon. I imagine they will advise A&E.

If they do, I hope you follow their advice Thanks
