oreo1234 · 08/01/2019 19:44

I've named changed for this.

In your opinion. Not listening to social media or hear say or stereotypes.

If you were to go on a date what would be the one job that would put you off?

I think my husbands would come in the top 3 😩😩😩.

It's not new we have been together 12 years but when I mention it on here no matter what the bloody subject is they use his job as the reason for my post!!!

Excluding illegal "jobs", something in the arms industry I think. I once met a man who, amongst other things, sold landmines (this was back in the day). I had to avoid him all evenjng as I couldnt trust myself not to make a scene.

flirtygirl · 09/01/2019 08:44

Anything stinky.

Anyone that works with anything dead. Anyone who profits from someone's misfortune. (Pimps, arm dealers, bankers, some businesses, traffickers, traffic wardens, enforcement officers, drug dealers etc)
Anyone who exploits poorer countries or knowingly ruins nature.
Sex worker.
Politician.
Most journalists, marketers, think tanks and anyone who makes money peddling information, doubt, mistrust and propaganda.
Nursery nurse or manny.
Scientist who test on animals.
Drs who carry out abortions.
Police and armed forces.

FayFortune · 09/01/2019 08:54

Agree with journalists!

Why nursery nurse or nanny @flirtygirl ?

famousfour · 09/01/2019 10:31

What with teachers, nurses and gynaecologists? Also not sure what the issue is with marines although I have my own career so could not commit to being an army wife I think.

Flirty girl that is quite a list.

famousfour · 09/01/2019 10:35

It’s interesting that because some jobs include individuals who are exploitative (such as journalists and bankers and presumably also lawyers) the entire group are excluded.

I think I would be put off by anyone in a ‘media’ job as have no idea what they actually do, seems to cover a wide range of ‘whatever’ and I suspect would be incompatible in interests (I’m too boring and uncreative).

fishonabicycle · 09/01/2019 12:18

Drug dealer, pimp, prostitute, Tory MP, burglar.

I stand corrected ☺️ I imagined from all the army kids at school that as wife you had to follow your army spouse to postings overseas - at least if you wanted to live together (and man the net curtains). A bit like a diplomats spouse.

Birdsgottafly · 09/01/2019 13:05

Anything involving rght wing views, including DWP lower workers.

Balliff, anything that exploited desperate people or they did to throw their weight around.

Teacher, they're the only ones that work for a living, don't you know Grin.

We live in a region we're jobs aren't easy to keep, so fast food worker is a guaranteed steady job. It would depend on the reasons why they're doing it etc.

I wouldn't date anyone who was snobby/up their own arse, so thank fuck I don't have to think about what job I want to take next.

Abbatoir worker. Too many go on to be serial killers

what?

Bellatrix14 · 09/01/2019 16:29

Very confused by so many people liaising gynaecologist or obstetrician.

“I would hate for my other half to have a fairly well paid and respected job that involved them looking after a very important body part and could mean that they save someone’s life, because it means that they look at other women’s ‘bits...”

Or am I really missing something? Hmm

A professional wouldn't be turned on or see it any different to any other part of the body.
Does that mean Men would hate their wives being Drs just incase they have to examine a penis?
I agree with you!
My male gynaecologist was the only one who understood my pain and when he examined me and hurt me so bad I vomited all over him, he was nothing but lovely. He diagnosed me within 5 mins, performed an operation within 2 weeks to confirm diagnosis and treated me immediately. No, I am not better, but now I am able to work and run around with my kids...the youngest would not be here without my male gynaecologist. I would be nothing but proud if my DP could change a woman's life so dramatically as my gynaecologist did mine. For context, I have had the same gynae problem for 15 years, only examined by women who told me 'bad periods' and I couldn't work for 5 years!

Batteriesallgone · 09/01/2019 22:24

knowingly ruins nature

Surely that’s all of us.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 10/01/2019 10:46

Drug dealer, pimp, prostitute, Tory MP, burglar.

Bit unfair to the first three and the last one to be all lumped in together Grin

MephistophelesApprentice · 10/01/2019 10:54

Anyone who works in advertising or marketing.

The odious promotion of greed is not something to be celebrated or respected, and they usually exaggerate other negative social traits like racism or sexism as well. A vile, parasitic industry and anyone who works in is contributing to the debasement of society.

I consider democratic politicians to just be PR agents but with unjustified political power, so everything I just said goes double for them. Would never date.

FayFortune · 10/01/2019 10:55

Oh god yes advertising.

Gresley · 10/01/2019 11:01

Fish and chip shop worker - they'd always stink of cooking fat. Mind you I expect some chefs smell pretty awful when they come home from work. Maybe they all have showers and change when they leave.

GinDaddy · 10/01/2019 12:07

Just read the last couple of posts from @MephistophelesApprentice and @FayFortune re advertising, and I had to have a chuckle.

“A vile, parasitic industry... contributing to the debasement of society?”

You have a talent for overstatement that’s for sure. There are plenty of other jobs I’d match to those words, before advertising.

I work in creative/advertising in financial services, so you’re probably talking about someone like myself.

There’s little I can say that will convince anyone holding the above views; what I do think however is that a fair proportion of my time is spent on positive things that help customers make decisions. Parasitical isn’t the word i’d use for our activities..

MephistophelesApprentice · 10/01/2019 13:49

Never trust an ad-man.

ichifanny · 10/01/2019 13:58

Pimp , drug dealer , debt collector .

C0untDucku1a · 10/01/2019 14:03

MP. Any party.
Abbatoir worker.
Fisherman. I couldnt relax.
Lawyer. This was after about three experiences on dating sites with lawyers.
Chef.

cheesenpickles · 10/01/2019 14:05

Any kind of dodgy sales - double glazing, shonky stuff to old people etc. The type where they mute the phone to "speak to their manager" and they make gesticulations and tell their coworkers they're going to rinse them.
