Aibu to be annoyed at Tesco forcing me to have bagless deliveries

Just that really, they are doing a trial and won't deliver anything in a bag. Not even a paper one. Don't really won't the delivery driver walking through the house so will have to take my delivery via the back door ConfusedBlush.

OP posts:
treaclesoda · 08/01/2019 17:22

About the half of the time my delivery driver is female and half the time it's a male.

I wouldnt let some random stranger into my house but if it's a supermarket delivery driver it wouldn't bother me. Supermarkets are big businesses and have recruitment policies. I'm not saying it's impossible that a male driver might grope me or something but I'm satisfied that the risk is small.

I do understand that others feel more wary though.

Pachyderm1 · 08/01/2019 17:24

Have some thought for people not in your circumstances

But OP isn’t in your circumstances. She made hers clear in her original post. I don’t see how the fact that you having a valid reason for needing bags has anything to do with whether or not OP IBU.

Separately, giggling at the thought of the PP’s DH who won’t go near sanitary products. Imagine being so fragile the thought of clean cotton is horrifying to you. Some men are so weak it beggars belief.

ChakiraChakra · 08/01/2019 17:25

If having a "strange man" in your house, or clutches pearls seeing a whole unopened packet of tampons and pads is a problem, surely you wouldn't choose supermarket delivery?

WhoWants2Know · 08/01/2019 17:25

I just put either a laundry basket or a couple bags for life by the door and pile everything into it.

dellacucina · 08/01/2019 17:27

Yes.

Thissameearth · 08/01/2019 17:28

Not sure going out and buying collapsible (plastic) boxes are environmentally friendly solution to problem of plastic bags...

Andjustlikethat · 08/01/2019 17:28

I've just read the posts properly and am 😱 at everyone being embarrassed about periods. I've not used Sanpro in many years but when dd was younger and caught short one morning before school, dh was sent out to the shop at 7.30am to get pads with no wings for her it took him a while probably due to having to read all the boxes . I'd not stand for any nonsense about his being squeamish about it. Fortunately dd has the same attitude as me and I'm sure her boyfriend will eventually be sent on a mercy mission when she's been disorganised again.

WindyWednesday · 08/01/2019 17:28

Blaa Are you always this rude to people? This is thread discussing plastic bags. Can we please go back to that.

BlaaBlaaBlaa · 08/01/2019 17:30

I'm not being that rude. No worse than other posters. You have to admit it is pretty ridiculous though??! Can't you see that?

Cuppateeee · 08/01/2019 17:31

We have bagless deliveries but don’t let them in due to the dogs. Instead we have bags for life fill them at the front door, then I take them through when the drivers gone.

WindyWednesday · 08/01/2019 17:31

That’s enough Blaa seriously. Please stop.

DoneLikeAKipper · 08/01/2019 17:33

WindyWednesday, you brought it up. You can’t blame Blaa or anyone else for commenting on your/your husband’s genuinely bizarre attitude.

Thissameearth · 08/01/2019 17:33

I have used chuck on floor method but am going to get my massive cloth bag I use for other shopping out the boot on delivery days now, no idea why didn’t think of that 👍🏻

MeOldChina · 08/01/2019 17:33

YABU. If it really bothers you, take your own bags to the door. Or a laundry basket.

RomanyRoots · 08/01/2019 17:34

Can't possibly have deliveries at the front door Hyacinth Grin
get them to use the trade entrance, at least.

BlaaBlaaBlaa · 08/01/2019 17:36

Why just me windy ? I've not even been that rude? Don't offer up personal information if you don't want people to comment.

Coolhwip · 08/01/2019 17:36

I'm also Shock a grown man won't go near san pro or speak of it.

Is he afraid it will turn into a woman? Confused

Do you in turn not go near or speak of shaving cream?

Littlechocola · 08/01/2019 17:37

Right by the front door, the dirtiest bit of floor in the house, some of them.

Don’t judge others by your standards. My front door is sparkling clean.

ILoveChristmasLights · 08/01/2019 17:38

It doesn’t make a jot of difference if they’re CRB checked or not, all that tells you is that someone hasn’t been caught doing anything, nitbtgat they haven’t.

Supermarket delivery men would have to be beyond stupid to behave badly, they know exactly who is delivering your shopping. They wouldn’t stand a chance of ‘getting away’ with anything.

I can understand the ODD person being too terrified due to past events, but not the number on here.

Littlechocola · 08/01/2019 17:39

DH wouldn’t ever go near sanpro or speak of it, so it’s odd for me.

Is there a reason for this?

ChocOrCheese · 08/01/2019 17:42

YANBU. My stuff comes from Sainsburys, who charge for the bags and I give them back on the next visit for recycling. I don't have room in my kitchen to unpack the boxes all directly onto the counters. If faced with this scenario I would take the items from the man one by one and carry them to their destination. It is not cost-effective for the supermarkets to deliver at the price they do and if they find that their drivers are taking twice as long to deliver they will soon end their trial and go back to normal.

FoxFoxSierra · 08/01/2019 17:43

I never get bags with my shopping delivery, why would you need bags when they bring it to your house for you?

I take the crate at the door, take it to the kitchen and unload it onto the floor, take the empty crate back and take the next one and repeat. The driver takes the empty crates back to the van and brings the next full one. When they leave I have all my shopping spread out on the floor so I can quickly see what needs to go where and can have it all put away in 5 minutes. I hate having loads of plastic bags hanging around and much prefer this way

Ravenesque · 08/01/2019 17:44

Asda have been doing bagless deliveries for ages. Ocado put stuff in bags that you give back to them the next delivery and get money for each bag you have. Iceland now do deliveries in bags for life which you reuse for each delivery.

All of this is the way forward and we should be embracing it. If you don't want the delivery man going through your home then either get the crates as suggested or get them to pile the shop in your hall by the door and then carry stuff through yourself. In short, YABU.

Arkos · 08/01/2019 17:47

My god there're some weird people out there who won't touch a box of tampons for fear of... well what exactly? Do they think they'll catch a period or something. Ridiculous. My husband even changed my towel for me when I had my section as I struggled to pick up pants from the floor etc. He's a real man not an idiot who likes to pretend sanpro doesn't exist😞

Arkos · 08/01/2019 17:48

And yes you should empty the crates into reusable shopping bags. Honestly.
