Aibu to be annoyed at Tesco forcing me to have bagless deliveries

Just that really, they are doing a trial and won't deliver anything in a bag. Not even a paper one. Don't really won't the delivery driver walking through the house so will have to take my delivery via the back door .

Why don't you get a couple of collapsible crate/box things and put them at the front door on delivery day? He can put your shopping into those?

I think Chrisjen's suggestion is brilliant.

Is this happening everywhere? I live in a converted house so the driver is going to have to cart it all upstairs, whereas now I just ask him to leave the bags in the hall and I take them up. Sounds annoying!

I'm all in favour of cutting down on plastic bags so good for Tesco doing a trial.

If it doesn't work for you choose a different supermarket, it's valuable feedback for them if customers move away.

Come on OP, you can sort out a system. Keep a box next to the front door or something.

Why don't you want the delivery driver bringing your shopping in? I get a Tesco delivery most weeks without bags and the driver brings the crates into the kitchen, and I unpack. Seems very easy and no plastic bags. What would be the point of unloading from one set of crates into another at the front door? The driver's not going to do that for you, so you would have to.

Not in my place! The crates would mostly be too heavy for me to carry upstairs so the driver would have to do it. We don't all have our kitchen on the ground floor!

YABU. You just don’t need bags for the walk of a few yards through your house. There is a patch of plastic trash the size of Texas in the Pacific Ocean. Nobody should be allowed to contribute to that for the sake of literally seconds of convenience.

Tesco haven't used bags for their online delivery for years in my area (I was quite memorably called a liar on mumsnet a couple of years ago when I said that my groceries came in a crate, not a bag ).

It's fine. I unload the crate and hand it back.

I always have bagless deliveries, and the driver just brings the crates through to the kitchen and I unpack it all onto the table (they usually help as well). I can't see why this wouldn't work, unless the access from your front door to your kitchen is unsafe or difficult. Obviously if the back door works better for you, I'm sure they won't mind, but bagless is better, surely?

This was my thought precisely, or even a few big bags. Our environment has no chance if people don't even think of these alternatives as a matter of course.

My mum has her reusable shoppers at the ready when delivery is due. Everything gets separated into them at the door. Then she can unpack at her leisure. She’s always done this and never had bags with her delivery.

It will take them so much longer to deliver that way. We get 5/6 crates and I’m there on my own emptying it usually. I don’t have much counter space so it will mostly have to be put all over the floor item by item and then I’ll have to bend down a hundred times and put it all away in cupboards later; (while keeping it all safe from crawling curious babies). I’m assuming the driver won’t be too happy to stay and wait around while I do it straight from the crate? I would have to change supermarkets if they did that here.
Before anyone piles on, I make plenty of choices that reduce how much stuff we use; and all our plastic bags from the online shop as well as any other plastic film etc is returned to the driver / put in bag recycling bins at our local shop. this is just one thing that wouldn’t work for us :-(
Maybe they would leave the crates for a small additional deposit and then pick them up each week?

We just pop ours into our reusable bags from the crates.

I just quickly unpack all the bits at the door while he's bringing the crates and then when he's gone, take the stuff through to kitchen. I'd just have him bring through to kitchen and do it there, but that's where the dog goes when there's someone at the door.

YABU. We need to tackle the plastic situation urgently.
Take it at the kitchen door, if that's at the back the drivers don't mind at all, or decant at the front door into those big backs for life that stand on their own.

The shopping is already being brought directly to your house, and you have the option of the delivery driver bringing it in to the kitchen - how much more convenient does it need to be?
